When will invites be coming out and where will they be viewable? Also, how will we be notified if we are invited?

Those invited will be posted on PDGA.com in early February once the yearend 2010 stats are finalized. Emailed invites with registration info usually go out in mid-March. Members without email addresses on file at PDGA HQ will get mailed invites.

I haven't been able to find anything about Juniors being bussed, if the parents are playing. can somebody please help me out here? I haven't registered myself yet because I will need to take my kid to the various courses. Will there be something to accommodate parents with kids and both are playing?
Please let me know so I can get my registration done before it opens up to the public.

Yeah - why make 1 post here for the 400+ players and families that are interested in answers when you can send 400 separate emails to 400 separate questions - PDGA Worlds Discussion Board Website brilliance in action.
This is the INFORMATION and ANNOUNCEMENTS thread right?
The last few years have been devoid of ANY real info, Event hype or anything useful to anyone looking for information on the BIGGEST PDGA Events of the year.
I long for the good old days like in 2002 when the TD's themselves would get on the discussion board and answer EVERY question asked of them about the Event and they would also provide weekly/daily updates about things going on as they were happening.
Look at how many posts were made by the TD's or staff dedicated to talk about the last few Worlds and except for Jack Lowe posting once in a while in 2009 - there hasn't been much said form the people with the answers.
This year we have 21 (TWENTY ONE!!) total posts going back to DEC 10th when the thread was started for the AM Worlds 2 &1/2 months away - and 45 total posts going back to New Years Eve when the thread was started for PRO Worlds a week later.
There used to be that many posts per hour or day depending on the Worlds in the past. :(
Keep asking questions and maybe someone will actually care enough to try and make at least a one word post :) to answer your questions.
Sincerely,
Keith Johnson

TD AM Worlds 2002
I was just discussing this very topic over the weekend at a B-tier tournament with an amatuer who attends Am Worlds every year with his son who plays in Juniors. I think we got spoiled going back the past few years on this forum because Terry & Chuck were very diligent in 2007 with information, announcments, and responses to questions to Am Worlds in Milwaukee and Pro Worlds in Highbridge. The Kalamazoo guys did a very good communications job in 2008, and Jack & Chappy did an absolutely wonderful job in 2009.
2010 however was about as poor as it gets with both Worlds, imo, and I thought that the excuses provided that the locals "weren't computer savvy" and were "more workers than posters" were weak. Now don't get me wrong, I think it is outlandish when people post questions about routine PDGA Office duties on this PDGA discussion board and when said questions go unanswered, people get all upset - like they exepct someone in the office staff to spend time to scan hundreds of message board subforums on a daily basis. This is an entirely unreasonable expectation and a major pet peeve of mine, because if somone would be doing this, then the membership would cry bloody murder that the office staff isn't attending to more important duties. (It's a no-win situation.)
Imo, however it should be one of the conditions and part of the sanctioning agreement for running a PDGA-sanctioned NT or Major event tournament that either the TD or someone from the staff of said tournament be available to provide regular information updates and respond to FAQ which may benefit a great number of participants in the event. This is ESPECIALLY relevant here because it's the PDGA Amateur or Professional World Championships and the face of our sport from a competition standpoint. John Hernlund has been stepping it up lately with the Pro Worlds side, but I really wish the Am Worlds guys would pick it up.
I know a guy in California who has two Junior boys and has desired to bring them to Am Worlds for the last couple of years but opted against it because a) complete lack of an external site (e.g http://2010amworlds.com/) less than 8 months before the event, or alternatively a very rudimentary site with little information and b) lack of information being posted on the PDGA DISCussion Board. So this is a very real perception which can and does hurt the event participation and payout. The quality of the courses is probably most important, and there are certainly many, many other "deal-breakers" which can make or break a successful Worlds event, but communications absolutely needs to be up towards the top of the list.
I also think that starting last year and almost a full 2 years before the 2012 Charlotte Pro/Am Worlds, there's been more information, updates, communications and responses than were for all of the 2010 & 2011 Worlds combined! So it's refreshing to see that the trend appears to be bucking.

I long for the good old days
In recent years Am Worlds has been the second largest am-skim event in the PDGA.
If you are a good amateur, it is not too late to get into Am Nationals. If you are a woman, USWDGC looks like it will be a generously run tournament this year. If you are an old guy like me, the weather is starting to look good for planting tomatoes.
It is really a shame what the PDGA has done with this tournament in recent years. :(

The 2011 AM Worlds preparations have been progressing right along and we have been trying to be very accommodating by answering all questions we receive. We have been putting alot of information out on our Facebook page and event website (www.2011amworlds.com).
We will have somebody monitoring the PDGA forums to be able to provide more timely responses there.
We have had a pretty wet spring right along with most of the eastern half of the US but the forecasters are saying that once that system clears then we should be looking forward to a pretty nice summer.
The player's party is shaping up to be a great event as we just announced that we will be having it Frontier Field Stadium where our AAA baseball team the Rochester Red Wings play. Live music is planned as well as a great buffet spread and still even more is being planned out.
Again, anyone should feel free to contact the Tournament Director - Tony Inzana (
[email protected]) or myself if you have any questions or concerns about 2011 AM Worlds.
Thanks and hope to see you in Rochester in July!

Hey all,
I'm that 'computer savvy' member of the host club (the Greater Rochester Disc Golf Club). By that I mean I spend way too much time on internet forums, particularly disc golf ones. Until recently I couldn't post because my pdga membership wasn't current. Now that that has been remedied, I'll try to pop on this thread as often as I can to answer questions about 2011 Am Worlds.
There's info on our event page, www.2011amworlds.com.
Also on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/2011-PDGA-Amateur-and-Junior-Disc-Golf-World-Championships/135756836457668
And twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/2011amworlds

There's also threads about worlds on discgolfreview.com and discgolfcoursereview.com. I'll do my best to keep y'all informed so please don't hesitate to ask. If I don't know the answer I know who to ask!

Three of the best local bands will perform while you enjoy drink/food specials and meet your competitors for the week!! Door charge for worlds players is only $2, which goes to pay the bands.

The 37th Rochester Flying Disc Open is now in the books. Results here http://www.pdga.com/tournament_results/68673 The Genesee Valley Park temp course was used for this event. It was a nice warm sunny day with a slight breeze. Lots of OB made for challenging rounds with great competition. Many holes really made you think before throwing.
Now that we've seen how it plays, some things will be tweaked and improved to make it as good as it can be for Worlds. It will only get better with flypads and high end baskets. If you played in the tournament feedback is welcome!

Monday Field events are taking shape. The air at Genesee Valley Park is going to be filled with flying discs!
The area has been laid out for the distance competition. Over 700 ft of wide open space is waiting for your long arm. The putting area will feature elevation, and the mini golf will be every bit as challenging as a full scale course. Also the EDGE competition will require all of your DG skills.
If you're not participating in these events put just want to come watch, there will be plenty of action for you. Discraft will be on site with a couple of there cannon-armed team discraft players to show you how it's done. Take the HOTT SHOTTS skills challenge for free.

Work continued on flypads today. Limited man power and not being allowed to drive vehicles on the course slowed progress. But we still accomplished quite a bit. I'm confident they will be done by dusk tomorrow.

I would think that would be part of it so people can plan. But I'm not involved this year and am not sure of their timing on things.

They're working on it. Pool assignments should be published Wednesday evening or Thursday morning at the latest.

I think the top 1/3 (+ ties) make the Semis - Just guessing based on last year. In Advanced 66 of the 187 played Semis, In Adv masters 32 of 88. Percentages work out to about 35% of the field.

I had seen that, and at one point had the same conclusion. But then i looked at 2009 AM Worlds, and in Advanced, 63 made the cut from 271 (~23%). In 2008 AM Worlds, 71 of 280 made the cut (~26%).
Saw similar variances when i looked at Pro Worlds as well.

There will not be more than one course full of Advanced that make the semis (72) even if there are 288 playing. Beyond that, it depends on whether they want/need to fit another division on the course with Advanced and how many are tied near the number they are shooting for. I suspect you'll see something posted like 64 or 68 plus ties when they're ready.

I call a bagger alert in MA1.

Jul 28 2011, 04:06 PM
It's Am Worlds. There will ALWAYS be baggers - that's what the tourney is all about. Staying Am long enough to compete here, then bumping up.
That being said, the current top 5 are all 950-979 rated players. That's not too bad. Maybe it'll shake out that the top 4 will be the 980+ rated guys. But right now, it seems pretty fair to me.
That being said, gotta root for NEFA boy Billy Dunne. Go!

I just went to the link and I don't see anything that gives a number of how many players move on to the semifinals... It says 4 advance to finals, but I'm talking about the saturday morning round.
Last year, we had 60 something players. I'm in 55th place so I'm curious how much of a cushion I have...

I see where it says minimum of 16 but does not give a maximum - It is usually a percentage that allows for ties and will still keep the field on 1 course - I would ASSUME that you got the LATEST (not the Draft one that's on the website) schedule when you checked-in that should have the actual amounts or worst case scenario, you could probably find out from the staff up there at tournament central.
Good luck and I hope you make it in!

In Pete's defense; he's come close, but has not won a Pro World Title. He's come close, but has not won an Am World title.
He is one of the most generous, gracious, and likable players I've met. He is a blast to play a round with.
Sure, he wants a World Championship, who doesn't? Bully for him that he still has game at 70!
Go PETE!

Seriously, he would probably be a shoe-in for Pro Legends
I just checked and I am wrong....Peter Shive is playing this time. Also, I am super impressed with a 999 rated MPS

Probably had a previous course set at the wrong number of holes or par and then corrected it is my guess - it happens all the time when TD's don't put the proper people playing the proper layouts when they upload the scores - and for Worlds it also deals with pools which means if they put different pools playing different courses than the order actually played it could be off.
As longg as they have it correct before the ooficila results are included in the ratings update - it really doesn't matter except for peoples egos or for the agony of defeat for crappy rated rounds :)

Big Congratulations to Chuck Hornsby for winning Senior Grands!!
Pretty sure he didn't make the top card until semis. He just trudged his way to the top by fighting every round.
Talk about persistence! After toying as a pro GM he joined us in the AM ranks in 07 with a 4th. Then he went to Highbridge and got 7th as AM playing Pro.
2008: 2nd as SG1
2009: 2nd as SG1
2010: Yea, 2nd AGAIN!
Winning this year at 64. How sweet is that?

I think they still have some score/pool/ratings issues - Adv Masters rounds have some rating oddities as it has players with the same score getting the same rating as others, although they were in different Pools playing different courses. Hopefully it all gets straightened out before it finalized.

He started that campaign right after the Pro Worlds so he would guarantee himself a World's title of some sort, and it worked. What'd he win by, 90 strokes? Really? Is there really any pride in stepping down and crushing a division?
