I wanted to add that for an optional $10 fee you can have some really good biscuits & gravy for breakfast (worth showing up early for) and a BBQ lunch with all the trimmings! Make sure you add that to your cart when you sign up online if you're interested...and you should be....well worth it to not have to drive in to Huntsville!

Entry's are starting to roll in. Only two weeks left to sign up. Don't miss out on over $500 added cash, and a really great players pack for the am's. Steve's course is a don't miss. They have done a ton of work on the course to get it ready for US Masters in March, so come play the course before everyone else. See the Houston Birdshot website for details

So the Ace Pot for the series is sitting at $312 going into this tourney. At $3/person it could easily jump up close to $500. Working on getting a number for the added cash, but it's over the $500 requirement. I'll post it as soon as we have it added up. Make sure if you sign up to really consider the $10 breakfast and lunch option. There is not much anywhere close to the course to run out and eat, and the food is always top notch at the penitentiary any ways. So come hit this one on Saturday, and then head to Austin for the B-tier at Wilco!

Another 6 entry's yesterday. Keep 'em coming, and don't forget the breakfast/lunch option when you sign up. It's absolutely worth it, especially not losing your parking spot.

Just got back from the course and all I can say is wow. That course is as upgraded as Batman's cave. The new pin positions are incredible, and the benches on almost every hole are well appreciated. Come check out what a course can be with some hard work. Don't wait too much longer because we are predicting a fill by wednesday. Have an awesome weekend and hopefully you guys in TN are going to bring back some SN trophies to TX!

So... Southern Star Brewery will be in attendance will you? Not if you wait too long. Flood gates are wide now that the first MPO has signed up. Don't let him walk away with some free added cash guys. We're about half full currently, so seriously do not wait on this guys. I would say wednesday and we'll be full. Pull the trigger and serve your sentence at Shawshank Disc Golf Penitentiary.

So... getting closer to filling. A couple more entries and we'll reach a $500 ace pot. I just got the list of schwag for the CTP's and raffles... wow. I may just keep it for myself. There will be 3 holes worth of CTP's per round and some after the rounds as well. Signups are steadily rolling in so don't be the guy stuck come Saturday. Also let all those awesome people that went to Southern Nationals that they need to sign up now, if they wait till they get home it will be too late. See everyone out there saturday. This is shaping up to be the second biggest tournament in Houston so far this year.

It's contiguous at this point. Houston will probably have annexed DFW by 2012. Viva expansion. Jerry you headed this way? You were obviously looking into it...
Dont wait people. Since this morning i've had 10 or more signups. For your own sake, seriously signup for the food when you register. Stay on site and save yourself from rushing all the way to huntsville.

Shawshank is full as of 11:20 this morning! Thanks to everyone who signed up....sorry if you waited & now it's too late! This is going to be a great event & preview of next year's Masters tournament....thanks to Steve Dufrane & Disc Golf Consultants for putting all of the hard work into making this thing happen....it's been a learning curve for Birdshot the past almost three years trying to make the disc golf scene in the Houston area grow & prosper. I hope we've done a decent job & that things will just get better & better! I have started a waiting list, although for most people it would be a hell of a drive to "maybe" be able to play....but if you're interested on getting on said list give me a call at 832-659-8449. Carrollton Open has plenty of room

Is there a web site for info on the course, or for info on the Masters Cup?

I am going to make an effort to be there. I have not played a PDGA major in over 10 years. I think it would be fun.

All right... So big stuff happening at this tournament. There will be ctps during each round, ctp contests after the rounds are over and an awesome raffle as well for a basket and more. Raffle tickets will only be $1 a piece or 6/$5. And don't forget to get there early to check in, get your players packs, eat breakfast, and then warm-up. This will be a fun tournament and thanks to all the 40+ age bracket pre-regs. Good luck to all of you in the drawing for a free US Masters entry. See everybody bright and early Saturday morning.

This is the link to the course info page on Disc Golf Course Review. As far as the Masters tourney there is no official website yet, but we will be posting it for sure in the tournament section of this forum when info is available. Wish you guys the best this weekend, and you should plan to come down to our next big B-tier in November at Jack Brooks park (next years TX States site). It will be epic. We have 2 courses we can fill for a one day b-tier, so everyone can travel back home on Sunday.

Alright everyone, less than 24 hours till start time, so everybody be safe getting here. Make sure you get there early enough to get your players pack, check in, get breakfast and still have time to warm up some. Hope everybody remembers some extra money for the raffles. There is a basket in there and some other awesome plastic. Also watch out for ctp's during the round and directly after the afternoon round. Make sure to bring some money for the new run of Shawshank stamped discs, i don't remember exactly what all Steve and Andi ordered but I did see a good run of glow wraiths. They also have some awesome shirts. We have been working so hard to get this tournament together, so hopefully it pays off for all of us tomorrow. Good luck in the rounds, side games, and raffles/drawings everyone.
Thanks to all who pre-reg'd it helps us get cards and everything done ahead of time, and keep an eye out for DOUBLE BARRELLLLL BROOOKSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Our finale is going to be huge in November. One day B-tier, but 2 courses so 144 person field. You heard right. More info to come, but spoiler alert.... Drive for Dough contest open to everyone competing. See how far you can actually throw! Nobody tell Bratten, McCabe, or any of the other big arms in the greater Texas area. There is cash in the pot already, but it will be a sizeable amount come time of the tourney. You will be trying to get into the top 5, or at least making plans to watch the top five throw off for cash after the last round. Make plans now for Double Barrel Brooks, on the site of the 2011 TX state Championships. Pro's Stay in Texas the week after VPO! Tourney info here...http://www.pdga.com/event?TournID=10124

I've got a question about the Shawshank tournament's scoring procedures.

We were told by the TD that the "island hole" should be scored in a new way, per some new rule called the "bunker rule." I looked all over this site for it, but couldn't find any reference to it.

Basically, if a player tees off and misses the island green, they re-tee again shooting thier second throw. This scoring procedure contradicts the rule 803.09.B - B. A player whose disc is considered
out-of-bounds shall receive one penalty
throw.

Since the rule we were instructed to play under contradicts 803.09.B this would have to be specifically approved by the PDGA in advance under 804.01.D - D. No rules may be stipulated which
confl ict with the PDGA Rules of Play,
unless approved by the Tour Manager
of the PDGA.

Was this variance from the rules granted by the PDGA before the tournament? I'm curious about that because I sought this variance for Texas States about 3-4 years ago and was denied the variance by the Competition Director. It seems unlikely that he would change his mind based on the arguments I received when I applied for it.

I have no idea about this tourney, but the USDGC apparently uses this, and I think it was started within the last two years. So....maybe times have changed.

I haven't played the hole, but in a lot of cases with island holes, I think the rule makes mucho sense.

It was played exactly like USDGC #17. Larry the rule was started at USDGC i think 2 or three years ago and is a modification of the historical "OB" definitions. We did add the stipulation of the drop zone if you didn't make the island after the third shot because with the lower divisions, and (god forbid i type this) some of the age protected divisions, that there were people who possibly couldn't ever make the island from the tee. Unlike USDGC which has a layup area in front of the tee to make the next shot easier, our hole is cool because the green is so small. That is why we limited the true "tin cup" aspect of it.
