2010 Patapsco Picnic Am C Tier

Presented by DISC OUTFITTERS (http://www.discoutfitters.com)

Were excited to host our first AM Picnic. Last years unsanctioned event was a great opportunity for players to get a taste of the Pro Picnic at a low entry fee. If youre not playing the following week, this is a good chance to test your skills against one of Marylands most challenging courses and then see how some of the best players in the country perform on the same course layout. Entry fee is being kept low. Everyone will receive a players pack, lunch, and a chance to win some terrific prizes.

$5000 added cash to the tournament, Marylands most challenging course, lunch both days, and beers for when were done playing.

42 players...?

What happened?

On the other hand, a lot of $$$ for those who did show up...but still, wondering why the low turn-out? Last year featured some top players.

We had a great couple of weekends, check out the wrap up at www.DiscOutfitters.com (http://www.discoutfitters.com/news/6/2010-Patapsco-Picnic-wrap-up.html).

In terms of the low turn out at the Pro Picnic.....I don't know what to think. It was a bummer more folks didn't show up. And it makes it really nervewracking and difficult to market an event with little to no prereg. But in the end, we had a great time with those that came and want to make this event better next year.

Our goal is to have the best of the best come to Maryland to compete for big payout on a great course. I modeled my tournament after other big A tiers, picked my dates based on the the proposed tour schedule from a couple years back, and positioned our event to be an easy stop for people going from Vibram, Skylands, Yetter to the SE for the USDGC.

Unfortunately their were many reasons we got for people not showing up. Some needed down time, didn't have the money, or were at a board meeting, some didn't say, some don't like that we don't offer a masters division. I would have thought more people that try to make a living playing disc golf or rely on their winnings as a part of their annual income would of been here. I also thought more of the top players from throughout the Mid Atlantic would of been here.

We really appreciate the turnout we got, some of the best players in the country were here. Many folks raved about the experience and look forward to coming back next year. We'll see what happens.

I'd like to get input about the Picnic specifically, on the trend to not prereg lately, how to draw quality players to an event, or on the general future of the PROFESSIONAL tour. What do you think about this stuff?
