I just returned from two days at Seven Springs Mountain Resort where I worked with Adventures Manager Brandon Hoffman to complete the set up of the par 64 course on the mountain. I'm happy to report:

1. All the baskets, including #12, are in their correct position.
2. All of the signs for the Red, White and Blue tee are installed. Tee markers are also in place.
3. Grass has been cut on all fairways, tees and greens.
4. I designed a compromise for weekday play when only the Cortina chairlift runs. Holes 1 and 10 will still be playable as is, but for anyone who doesn't want to walk up the hill to play those holes, a new tee just off to the right of the disembark of the Cortina lift will allow an alternate hole 1A (180 ft) to be played to a relocated practice basket, and an alternate 10A to be played to the existing #10 basket (303 feet). Seven Springs staff will move the practice basket (currently located above the original tees of #1 and #10) soon and create signage for the alternate tees.

The six-pack lift that goes to the top of the course where #1 and #10 start will run on Sat-Sun 10am-6pm and on Fridays of holiday weekends.

A chair pass to play the course is only $6 available at the Adventures Center at the base of the slopes. The Adventures Center will also soon have a new supply of custom stamped Innova golf discs for sale, in addition to having rental discs available. Stop in before your round to pick up a course map and scorecard. Take the chairlift up and play the front nine back down the mountain. Have lunch at the the Slopeside dining room or other eateries at the resort. Take the lift back to the top and play the back nine down again. Then take a swim at the Bavarian Beach pool overlooking the 18th green, or go up the hill and play some more.

The resort also has a great Bike Park with downhill mountain bike trails complete with technical sections, banked turns, rock hops, and big air jumps. Or you can ride some of the hundred miles of trials throughout the resort's section of the Laurel Highlands.

Tons of other stuff to do there for kids, wives and families as well -- UTV rides, rock climbing, spa, swimming, miniature golf, arcade games, and more.

I hope to soon have further announcements about disc golf events and activities at 7Springs!

The course is set, PDGA B-tier sanctioning has been approved, and the Mid-Atlantic's best 4-season resort is ready for you, your family and friends for a Labor Day Weekend event -- the Seven Springs Disc Golf Classic!

Tournament Director J. Gary Dropcho and Seven Springs Event Directors Brandon Hoffman and Melissa Cullin have planned not only 36 holes of disc golf on the par-64 7Springs course, but plenty of time for all to relax and enjoy everything else that the Mountain Resort offers. Tee times will be used to give players time before or after their round to relax at the Bavarian Beach, take a bike ride, pedal a hydro bike, get a massage at the Spa, play miniature golf, hot tub, or whatever they'd like to do.

At least $500 added to the pro purses, 100% payout in amateur player packages and prizes, low entry fees, and an outstanding room rate of $129/night (Quad occupancy!) at the resort hotel add up to a great weekend.

Register online at www.pdga.com (http://www.pdga.com/discussion/../) and reserve your room through www.7Springs.com (http://www.7springs.com/), but don't delay because the tournament field is limited to 72-players.

Another great tourney in our area to add to the calendar. Seven Springs, Pleasant Valley, the Picnic and the Hunt at Deer Lakes makes for a great month of disc golf!

Plans have been made for a PDGA-B tier tournament at 7 Springs Oct 1-2, 2011 and a PFDS club outing to the mountain top course on July 24.

Details to follow, but the July 24 outing will include all day lift pass, merch/cash payout for am/pro players and a chance to win a season pass to the resort's disc golf course.

Seven Springs Adventures Director Brandon Hoffman and Sales Manager Melissa Cullin are planning the second year of the 7 Springs Disc Golf Classic to be bigger and better.

Mark your calendars!

I was hoping to play the course during the Seven Springs Wine & Food Festival (http://tickets.7springs.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=73), but alas, that is the same weekend as the PFDO. (which I am helping out at)

Assuming the NFL labor negotiations get resolved, I'm headed out for the Seachickens @ Steelers game during the weekend of Sept. 17th-18th. Can't wait to play the course again!!!

Anybody up for a round at Seven Springs at noon on Saturday Sept. 17th, weather permitting? The only other thing going on that day is a Moraine Mixer.

Seth Burton Memorial is also that weekend. I don't think I will be able to do either. May be able to sneak out to the monthly before the kids wake up though.
