12 officially signed up...and theres almost 6 weeks left. I dont think its possible for me to emphasize enough how much you CAN NOT WAIT if you want in this year. Group A (Open, Pro Masters, Adv. men) will fill. Group B (Int. men, Adv Masters men) could very well fill. Group C (Rec men, Adv. Women, Int. Women, Jrs.) will get close. Sign up now...sign up now...sign up now!!! Remember, you are not officially signed up until I have money and form. www.abilenediscgolf.net/wild_hair (http://www.abilenediscgolf.net/wild_hair) Also, $10 added to all money taken Sat. morning...assuming there are any spots left.
Now for some tournament news...
ATTENTION ALL WOMEN! If you want to play in the Wild Hair, WE WANT YOU! Historically, the Wild Hair has not had very many women, so only 1 trophy division has been offered (of course any division is offered that has at least 3 qualifying players). But, dont let Adv. Women scare you away. Since we are expecting so many more players this year, its a little short sighted of me to offer only the top Amatuer Womens division, so I am now offereing Int. Women as a trophy divison this year. I will update all the flyers and the online registration will have Int. Women as a selectable division. Please get the word out!! And, if there is enough Rec. Women interest soon, I will offer that as a trophy division as well.
All Women playing in a womens division will be "in the cash"....every women will recieve enough for at least 1 disc. All Jrs. get the same deal.
Most everything I'm planing (not yet advertised) is still in the "if I get enough sponsorship we can do it" stage, but there could be a GREAT announcment soon about the players packs and the menu for lunch both days (provided FREE to all players btw).
If you haven't figured it out by now, each group will play each course once. Still working out the course schedules, will post when I have them finalized.
I will have the logo probably tommorrow...will post when I do.
Thats it for now. Oh, and I almost forgot....
SIGN UP NOW :)

When did Abilene get a third course?
Jroc
May 23 2010, 04:35 PM
ACU Wildcat course opened April 2009. 9 holes, concrete tees, tee signs, course overview sign. Course designed by Jay Reaing. Good mix of long and short holes that use the trees and elevation well. About 3,200 ft. in length. Pro par 28 - Am par 30.

Good day all!! Couple of announcments I want to make...
It is now confirmed that the players pack will be fantastic this year. I dont want to tell you exactly what your getting, but I'll just say its worth at least $25, its all sponsored (wont affect the prize payout), and Pros and Am's get the players pack (up to the first 125 players).
Even though the Wild Hair is listed as a C-Tier event, its going to be produced as if it were a B-Tier event. The club has decided to gurantee $500 added cash to the Pro divisions with the majority of the cash going to Open. The aforementioned players packs will obviously meet the minimum, and the payouts will definitly be over 100%. I am checking with the powers that be to see if we can "officially" step up the Tier, but because its so late in the game it may not be possible. REGARDLESS...we stand by the above statements. And, the entry fees WILL NOT change.
So for those that have glanced at the thread (especially you Pros out there) and thought "ehh...C-Tier....might be cool, but no thanks"....LOOK AGAIN! If you decide to give it a try...sign up SOON. Because we are limited on holes, there are strict limits that we cant budge on and the Pro and Adv. Men divisions (who are all in the same group) will fill up fo' sho'!!
Sooo.....
$25 players pack for the first 125 players (regardless of division)
Free lunch both days on site
$500 cash added to Pro's
guranteed $500+ 1st place in Open Men
100+% payout in all divisions
Pick you own payout for Am's
All Women and Jr.s will recieve something regardless of where you finish.
3 baskets to raffle off (plus a few other things) with all of the proceeds going to the Cal Young Park Expansion.
Need I say more? Get the word out to all your friends...give the Wild Hair a try!!

Hey all....4 weeks and counting...
Group A = 9
Group B = 9
Group C = 6
Expect the registrations to start rolling in. Only 24 officially so far, but I know of 2x that many that should be signed up in the next few weeks. I got work back from our state coordinator today, and we are clear to officially be a B-Tier event!! I am sending in the additional sanctioning fee this week. So that means the minimums are:
$10 players pack (ours will be $25+)
100% payout (ours will exceed that...in all divisions)
$500 added to Pro purse (done...and probably more)
free lunch both days for all players (not required...but this has been a standard of the Wild Hair for the last 3 years)
Sign up today! Any questions, please call me. 325-829-6579 or e-mail at

I've went to to the Wild Hair the last 4 years in a row. Jerry, Misty, and the Abilene D Golfers put on a great tourney. Best C tier in Texas!!!! My wife and I very recently welcome our 1st born so got to miss this one Jerry, sadly.
I mainly wanted anyone reading this post that may be considering attending The Wild Har to go ahead and sign up! You won't regret it. This tournament is FUN FUN FUN! perhaps one of the few tourneys where a bad round won't ruin your weekend, I mean, after free lunches and your players pack (not coming out of the payout), ring of fire, etc.. it's like you only payed a few bucks to play this tourney. How many people do you know that travel nearly 3 hours for a c-tier 4 years in a row. That's how fun this tourney is. and I just read may be a B-Tier, meaning more points, WHAT!!!

**** Calvert! Sorry you cant make it this year, but I totally understand...family comes first. Hope you and the family are doing well. Look forward to seeing you next year. :)
Yes we are a B-tier this year. All the amenities, and then some. If your on the fence...jump the hell off and sign your *** up! The ADGA is SUPER excited this year about our event. B-Tier+ standards....lunches provided free to all players BOTH days...C-Tier entry fee. Add it up folks....we put a lot of work and take a lot of pride into making our showcase event the BEST it can be. 29 players as of today...with many more to come for sure.
PRO players...sign up! Calvert was right....we will never boast the hardest courses in Texas, but they are solid...and will provide challenges. $500+ added cash to the Pros (the majority to Open), $500+ 1st place in Open. $25+ players pack to the first 125 players (PRO and AM). Free lunch both days. Name any B-Tier around that does that.....?
Thanks for the kind words C! Sign up now! questions, go to www.abilenediscgolf.net/wild_hair (http://www.abilenediscgolf.net/wild_hair) or call me at 325-829-6579.

I have some extra water jugs that I could bring if you need them. You might want to check with your local fire department, they usually make their own ice and they will probably be willing to donate to the cause.

Jun 23 2010, 01:06 AM
Got Will Hair painted...all OB and circles. ACU tommorrow, Cal Young on thrusday.
One of our long standing disc golfers has got all the ice taken care of. As for the final 9, its for the top 4 in Open. Its out at Cal Young on a strecthed out course...several par 4's and 5's. If you have some water jugs, we could probably use them...it would be much appriciated.
Any Pro's still on the fence out there? Come up and see! Adding 2 more entries tonight for a total of 76. Looking good to break our all time mark of 90.
If you have mailed an entry, call and let me know when you sent it so I can be looking for it. Online scoring closes tommorrow evening. Unless there is a big turnout the next few days, there will probably be spots left on Fri. at doubles. You'll still have a chance to put together a last minute road trip!!
Plenty of spots left...tell all your friends...give us a try!!!
Jroc
Jun 24 2010, 01:51 AM
91 total players!! That makes this years Wild Hair the biggest tournament in Abilene disc golf history. Thanks to all that have signed up for making it possible. AND.....theres still plenty of spots left....heres the tally.
Group A - 39
Group B - 33
Group C - 19
16 spots left for Open, Masters, and/or Adv. men. Just signed up our second 1000 rated player today...come on Pro's.....get on the phone...talk to each other....make a trip!! Online registration is closed and its too late to mail anything. So give me a call and let me know your coming...and show up!!
Reminder that Friday doubles is at Will Hair park. Flex start begins at 3p. Last card goes out at 6:30p. Bring your own partner, $10 a team, 1 division. Each team plays the 11 holes (including the added hole for the tournament) twice. First time from the long tees, second time around from the shorts. We had an AMAZING 35 teams last year...first place team got $90!! Can we reach that number this year? We will see. Also, you DO NOT have to be registered for the tournament to play doubles on Friday.
Someone will be up at Will Hair from before the start of doubles until dark. Even if your not playing doubles, we encourage you to come pick up your players pack Fri. night.....one less thing to do Sat. morning.
Finished up ACU tonight...Cal Young all day tommorrow and with luck, nothing left on Fri :)
