I am pretty bummed that this year we are no longer running the points bonanza in Charlotte (4 unique one day c-tiers). Over the last two years we gave up the Charlotte Open (A-tier or lower) and points bonanza, which had large amateur divisions. We gained a NT for the pro's, or at least for those able to fork out $150 plus pdga dues, US Dubs (have to be current), and the CAC (Charlotte's first Am only A-tier). So to play in Charlotte, you have to be current and willing to spend some $$$. This trend appears to be supportive of upper level players, and them only.
So why merge the NC state games into what is already a very selective/discriminative domain, when up to now it has always been catered to the newer/beginner/recreational/once a year/and pdga member? Isn't the event returning to a one day c-tier status in Winston Salem again next year? I for one do not feel it is appropriate to sever the hand that feeds you, as in my experience in Charlotte, there are 90% Joe Q Public discers and about 10% club or higher level players. Charlotte has an enormous disc golf population, and we provide Innova East some very direct/consistent business, which is why I assumed Innova decided to be the primary sponsor of the state games. Heck, the Charlotte DGC now has an Innova tenured employee on our board of directors to make such important decisions. So again, why abandon tradition with the state games to make it such an ellitest event? Why force someone to pay $50 pdga membership, $50 for CAC A-tier entry fee, $10 NC State Games fee, and $5 DGU fee to online register to play one event this year within the city limits of Charlotte?
I am very supportive of Charlotte hosting an A-tier for PDGA amateurs. I will not support Charlotte single handedly altering the intended design of the state games, a TRULY AMATEUR LEVEL OF COMPETITION. Lets face it folks, until pdga starts giving out medals in all amateur divisions, we will continue to be paid amateurs.
With that said, I support the CAC A-tier and intend to play. I WILL NOT support the NC State Games until it once again supports true amateurs.

My two cents.
Innova has allways been the main sponsor of disc golf for the state games. it may be because of high points connection with innova due to tatarsak getting Disc Golf add to the State games while working on his Parks and rec Degree.
The state games has always been speical to Andrew and I. I have the highest respect for the charolette disc golf club. I wish this whole matter could have been handled better. if for no other reason the world is watching.
Andrew will most likely play the CAC. he don't like the idea of not getting his 4th Gold medal.
Myself I will play the State Games.

Is there any reason why a lot of people have not yet signed up for this event? More specifically for the Men's Rec division? Is this the type of event that brings a lot of players the day of competition? I am thinking of playing but I don't want to waste the time and money if I am only one of a few in my division. Any thoughts?

IMO. Not that many rec players are PDGA members and you have to be one to play this event. A Tier.

Not to mention that most rec players don't want to pay $50 to play a tourney. I'm sub 900 rated... maybe I'll play rec instead of MA2.

Yep. Just got the okay from her boss to take the week following the tourney off. We had planned since Feb. or so to play this, but her coworker ended up with a kid due on the 14th. Well...Friday his wife gave birth, so being adventurous my first thought was that there was still time to organize the trip. So we'll be heading up for the CAC's and bringing another friend with us. The only decision now is the B-tier in Knoxville the following Saturday on the way home, or the cool sounding women's only tourney in ATL.

Lots of great courses. If you haven't played Nevin, get ready for the next awesome Charlotte course. Elon Angry Beaver is a formidable challenge too. Stan and the design crew have done an amazing job in the last couple years... did I say couple years... I meant couple DECADES. And we'll have more soon... more soon... Come prep for worlds, people... 2012!

I can not say enough great things about Elon. That course was really well set up. This is what i expereinced with the new course. i printed off a course map so i could navigate it being the frist time playing it. didn't need it the course was marked and flaged perfectly. next tee location designatd and temp tee signs where perfect. Tee pads where perfect. perfect size and all tee pads where level (this is huge!!!!!!! so many courses blow it when puitting in teeing areaes that aren't level!!) The distance disgnators on the stumps in the fairway where a GREAT touch!! i hope they stay there. Stan and crew thank you guys so much for all the hard work you have put into Disc Golf in Charlotte!!!
Funny side note i got to Elon this past saturday morning and the sign at hole 1 was still up that the course was closed for new tee pad instalation (this was from friday but the sign didn't designate a time fram jsut said "course closed today") i about had a heart attack. i had driven 3+ hours from wilmington to practice. but a local was nice enough to call Stan on a saturday and Stan was nice enough to pick up on a saturday to let us know that the course was good to go. so we played that bad boy and cleaned off the new tee pads as we went along. THANKS STAN and CREW!!!!!!!! great work
Monday rain kept me away from Nevin....can't wiat for the CAC!!!!

Saturday - June 19th
Run in conjunction with the Charlotte Am Championship
Medals for top 3 in each division
Players packs for all, free admission to State Games opening ceremonies (at Carowinds) & players party/award ceremony at EBs patio on Saturday evening.
2 Rounds (various courses throughout Charlotte depending on division)
$10 (If you are playing in CAC as well and registered) or $25 for State Games only
Register online for both via - http://www.discgolfu...cfm/tourn_id/65
or contact me (via email address) to register for State Games only.
Email me @
[email protected] if you have any questions and I'll post info/answers that might be relevant to everyone else on here.
SOME INFO/ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS:
NC State Games will be Saturday only, entrants will have the option of joining in on the CAC and playing that tourney as well or just entering the State Games and being done after Saturday. If you are playing in both you'll play your Saturday rounds as normal and those rounds (only) will be used for the State Games and of course they will be carried into the rest of your CAC tournament as normal.
Entry for those doing both is $10 for State Games and $25 (the usual amount) for those just playing in the State Games).
The State Games itself is not sanctioned so for those not playing in CAC the rounds will not be rated but you also don't have to pay the PDGA membership fees if you go that route.
There will be an awards ceremony on Saturday as well as a putting contest (should be for State medals as well).
All divisions will be offered and have a chance at a medal as long as there are at least 4 preregistered in said division.
All NC and SC residents are eligible to enter as long as they have not registered as a Pro with the PDGA and have not accepted cash at a PDGA sanctioned disc golf tournament at any time.

and can some one explain the corse names to me. what is renny black (remember Original and gold)

Phil and I are traveling to and from all weekend and if you want or need Andrew can travel with us. We don't mind. Not to mention Phil and Andrew are both in the same divison and playing the same courses.
Renny Black is the original, so says Phil.
Elon Pro/Long is also known as the angry beaver, they they are the long tees for elon.
I hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing you guys things weekend!! This is going to be fun!!

Audi Thank very much. But I have planned to go with Andrew. I was going to walk one round and spot one round each day. like I did at UNC. Not sure if I will spot now. the point I was trying to make is to be there one hour before tee time. we will be getting up at 4:30 am. leave winstion-salem at 5:30.
8:00 tee times are ok for a bowling greens or world championship where most everone is in town for the event. and in those cases the host hotel is within 30 minutes of all the courses. well at least 1 hour is the longest drive we ever had at worlds and that was not a 8:00am tee time because of the drive.
It would be nice to hear from Charlotte as to the couse names. to many people call these course to many things. us out of towners don't know all the pet names for the courses.
as you can tell I am frustrated with all that has happened with the state games and CAC. in my opion the State games are more important to Disc Golf than CAC. the state spends alot of money to promote the games. money disc golf dosn't have. it gets more first time disc golfer a look at the sport. and is the closest we will ever get to the olympics. and as I have said before the state games is a one day event . cac is a two day. 2012 is 5 days plus a doubles tournament. and field events. not looking good guys.
again these are my opions and mine alone Andrew is on the couch made at me for making thses post.

Anything for you Wyatt!!! We're a very much looking forward to seeing you and Andrew. If you get sick of the boys you know you are MORE then welcome to come and hang out with us ladies!! LOL
As far as tee times and such I emailed the TD, he's definately been very responsive to any questions that I have had via phone. I didn't see anything posted for the tee time for saturday just that check- in starts at 9am but I noticed that some things have been changing.
I definately do agree that there needs to be more communication when there are changes.
Phil said that Andrew shouldn't be on the couch he should be outside putting. LOL
See you guys tomorrow.

Elon Pro/Long is also known as the angry beaver, they they are the long tees for elon.
audi
That last part is wrong. Elon/pro aka Angry beaver is a separate course and only has one set of pads.
Regular Elon has two sets of pads.
Wyatt: Andrew will be playing the Angry Beaver and you will see the baskets for it on your drive in. it's the course on your right except for holes 2 and 3. Also don't let the first three holes fool ya.

You know, its funny you mentioned that. Onslow Flying Disc Association, and the Charlotte Disc Golf Club have gotten together to make things interesting for the women at this years Charlotte Amateur Championship. The winner of the Advanced Womens division this weekend at the CAC will have their entry fee sponsored (by OFDA) into the Womens Nationals down in Jacksonville, NC in September. And the winner of the Intermediate Womens division at the CAC will have their entry fee sponsored (by CDGC) to Women's Nationals down in Jacksonville, NC in September.
If any of you ladies would like info regarding The USWDGC this year go to www.uswdgc2010.com
Thank you Onslow Flying Disc Association and The Charlotte Disc Golf Club for hooking up the ladies!
