Funny the things that people remember....
I currently keep 70% Dark Chocolate on hand just in case. :O)

My 1st goal is to have fun.
I might be throwing alot of side arm shots in the pines.
Also broke out the beat leopards, old Ontario Rocs, and roadrunners.
I will get 2 different full days to check out the courses.
I am getting ready.
Looking forward to it !

Boy, looking at that schedule, it sure is tempting!

Right now, because of my rating, I can either pay $150 (MPG) and have to play the shortest course of the bunch twice (Headrick), and have little chance of cashing; or pay half of that and play the two longest courses as a MM1 and have a much better chance of bringing home some plastic.

Won't be going to the Worlds, would give me a chance to say hey to Carlton, gotta check my schedule and my bank account. I hope Lavone signs up.

Also I just looked at the extended forecast for Augusta area.

Maybe my questions could benefit all who are attending:

Fees for entering the park: are they included with registration? Do I have to pay when I show up on Thursday to check things out or is that included also? Will the park entrance people have a list of participants?

What is the Friday "Evening Activity" and is it going to be at the IDGC or elsewhere? No dress code I assume since it's after the round.

Saturday lunch break: is lunch provided, sold, or "bring your own"? Menu? I ask because I hate leaving the course between rounds to go try and find lunch somewhere, so I will bring peanut butter and bread if lunch isn't provided or available. I like to relax between rounds. :)

Saturday BBQ and entertainment: is it going to be at the IDGC or elsewhere? No dress code I assume since it's after the round.

Sunday: will there be food available for purchase at the IDGC for those with early tee times who will be waiting around?

Last one: I don't quite understand the tee times on Sunday when everybody will fit on their respective courses for a shotgun start? Not a complaint necessarily, :) , just wondering about the logic of it.

TIA.

The park gate fee will be charging upon entering, it is usually $3 a car, and during special events it can increase to $5. We have no control over this as this is a Columbia County thing. We also will be charging greens fees up until wednesday night, people playing in the event will not have to pay on thursdays practice day.

Friday evening activity will be a Blues and Brews festival in Evans, put on by Columbia County. The location is no more than 20 minutes from the IDGC, you will have a free entry ticket in your players package.

There will be a food vendor onsite for friday, saturday, and sunday. We are expecting hotdogs, sausage dogs, and hamburgers.

Saturday BBQ and entertainment will be at the IDGC.............

Not sure on the reasoning behind the tee times, would have to ask Brian........

Sorry for the delayed response, the office doesnt check the message board much esp this week, as u can imagine were pretty darn covered up right now. If you need a quick response to any questions please call the office at 706-261-6342

Thank you for the info. I figured I could ask about it on Thursday when I got there, but by asking here it could help others too. :)

So the IDGC page here on pdga.com is incorrect when it states that park entry fee are included in event entry fees? It seems like buying a week's pass on Thursday would be cheaper than 4 daily fees, but that's only if we have to pay each day to enter the park.

It's not a big deal, but if the rates listed are accurate it would be better for me to get $10 weekly pass the first time I enter on Thursday. But if the park fees are included with the entry then that's a dumb move. But if they aren't and I pay the daily rate the first time in.... :D

I haven't read or heard anything about Patrick Brown. It will be interesting to watch how he does during the year. Especially intriguing is that he evidently is a new pro, since he has a win as an Advanced player this year.

edit: just looked back at his stats this year - his win as an advanced player occurred after he cashed three times as a pro master? Am I missing something here?

I believe the it was a local tourney hosted by the United Flyers of Sonoma to honor Steve Werner who was a Norcal player who died of cancer. There was no pro division. Patrick started really playing when the Golden Gate Park course opened in 2003 and is there all the time (probably one of the reasons he is doing so well in the tight woods courses, as Golden Gate is very technical). Between that course and long, wide open Stafford Lake he has really stepped up his game (he won both Masters Cup and Faultline at Delaveaga last year in the Masters Division).

First off, super job of the Masters Championship by the PDGA/IDGC staff and volunteers. What a great time hanging with many of the sports legends and hall of fame players. Congratulations to the Masters Champions. Tim Selinske was definitely proud of the weekends event.

I do wish to correct the reporting of the final stage of the event as this was a Major and anytime the well intentioned story gets told it is of the utmost importance that it is told accurately.

From PDGA front page:
"Patrick Brown, who led the Masters division the first two days, wasn't about to just hand the title over to Schultz. If he wanted it, he was going to have to earn it. Schultz did just that as he picked up enough strokes to tie Brown on the last hole of the final round."

The last round was a true epic battle and Barry had actually earned the tournament lead during the first third of the round which Patrick tied right back up. The lead then exchanged back and forth just a couple more strokes before Barry had taken a couple of strokes control during the last third of the round. That was until hole 17 where Patrick chipped a stroke back and set up some drama for tough par 4 hole 18. This is where both Barry and Patrick had errant drives off of the tee. Patrick made the best of his and set up an up and down opportunity after a great second shot. Barry struggled footing in getting his up and down set up and then drifted his up shot left of the pin with a 45 footer. After missing his putt, the tie was eminent unless Patrick could bang out his 25 footer with just enough up hill elevation to cause some uncertainty. Patrick knew on release he had pulled his putt. Overtime!

Billy Crump and the Clash crew where there to catch the action all weekend. There are some amazing shots through the woods caught on video so the DVD should be excellent!

Patrick also absolutely shredded the Steady Ed, Chuck Kennedy course with a brilliant display of accuracy and catching the proper breaks required to score well on this course. His 45 came out to be a -17 according the set course par and really was that good considering the elevation, water and density of the flora. Hopefully the course reporting may not have been so accurate because Patrick's round is well above the unofficial 1082 his round has been given:confused:.

At least that is what was felt by players with a combined 20+ World Championships under their belts!

cgkdisc
May 03 2010, 04:31 PM
I believe his round was a 47 according to the score page. All of the course pars on Steady Ed are set for blue level which is the skill level the course is designed for. The par usually doesn't get adjusted down by the 5 or 6 shots it should for gold level play. Scores of 47 would have gotten close to a 1082 rating on courses with that SSA since the ratings system started 10 years ago (not there are that many in 10 years). Play that same Steady Ed layout 5 years from now or 10 years from now and expect a rating about 1082 again if you shoot a 47 (although the pine beetles might make that layout a little easier by then).

Hopefully the course reporting may not have been so accurate because Patrick's round is well above the unofficial 1082 his round has been given:confused:. At least that is what was felt by players with a combined 20+ World Championships under their belts!

The scores from all rounds on that Steady layout will likely get averaged for a tourney SSA. The 1082 rating might go up a point or two when official. It currently just barely misses making the top 10 rounds for all time for courses in that SSA range with a 1085 needed to tie Climo for 10th from his Sunshine Shootout round in March. Note that there aren't any stats majors among those players with 20+ World Championships which is probably one reason why they won them and I haven't...:)

Thanks to all the volunteers that made this event possible. I got to meet some new friends from around the US. I heard a few people saying they wanted to bring future US Masters events to their communities and I hope they will follow through.

The scores from all rounds on that Steady layout will likely get averaged for a tourney SSA.

Baskets were moved to the short positions for Round 4 on this course.

It would be interesting to know how much different the SSAs (or ratings) were for the different pools. That is - did Pool A (Round 1 & 3) with the top rated Pro Masters and GM's end up producing the same SSA/ratings as the older Am & Pro divisions and women in Pool C (Round 2)?

cgkdisc
May 04 2010, 10:35 AM
The ratings were very stable within pools and between pools. A score of 57 on Steady was rated 995 & 997 for R1 & R3 by the Masters and 998 in R2 for the other pool. The shorter Steady was over 4 throws easier with a 52 being about 997. A 67 on Jackson was 999 and 998 for Masters in R2 & R4, respectively.

Dale,

960 is pretty darn good in my book, especially since you are not too far from GM age, if I am not mistaken.

I went down to the grand opening in 2007, and only two courses were open. I would have liked the Headrick course more if my game had been more tuned up for the technical shots needed there, but I had my highest rating round ever on the other course. Can't remember the name of it, but tee 1 was just over to the left if you were standing on the back porch. I really liked that course, but did it still take 5 hours to play? Not complaining, just back then, with the course not completely cleared out yet, plus the long distance of the course, which of course I liked, it took awhile to play.

Wasn't the IDGC building pretty cool, with the artwork, history and stuff?

Also, right now, my son may be starting school in Stillwater next fall, so maybe we can get a round in sometime. I'll bring the chocolate.
