I was researching the recent removal of our elected LA state coordinator
and the appointment of his replacement.
I figured there would be some mention of the action in the board minutes.
Sure enough September 2, 2009:

...Louisiana State Coordinator: by Graham
Mike Kernan was elected as the LA state coordinator with 2 votes as a right (sic) in. It has come to
the PDGAs attention that he is emphatically encouraging tournaments in LA not to sanction any of their
events with a message posted on the southern Nationals forum.
In addition, he has just recently been suspended from the PDGA forum for another year, which makes
him a member not in good standing and can thus be removed from his position.
There is another active member who is interested in the position for the state of LA.
One of the things that we need to clarify here is that people who are volunteers or even employees
of the PDGA have the right to disagree with the PDGA and have critical opinions of our programs, but
such criticism should be given in a constructive way.

There is no record of a vote on the matter.
Mike served the great state of LA for 14 days and
was then told he was being removed for reasons
detailed above.
I then tired to find a record of the process naming
Mike's replacement. No record to be found.
Who decided on Mikes replacement? No record.

I did find this tasty morsel in the minutes of
February 2, 2010 teleconference:

Refusal of Membership
- There is an individual who has caused trouble for the PDGA for years and it has been suggested that this
individual not be allowed to renew his membership. This person has been defaming the PDGA and disc
golfers in general for a very long time.
- There was concern that banning him sets a bad precedent and that maybe writing him up through the
disciplinary process would be the way to go.
- A lengthy discussion ensued regarding our options to deal with this person and future problem members.
- Andrews has directed Graham to have our IT department blacklist this individual so his emails are not
delivered. Andrews has also instructed staff and Bod members not to respond to any correspondence
from this individual if it does get through.

WHAT? WHO?

Poor Mikey,

May he rest in peace. Even if I agreed with Mike, and thought he was the hottest potato this side of the Mississippi, openly advocating against the PDGA when you are an acting officer seems to be unprofessional. There are many ways to make your voice heard, open revolt seems the poorest.

Not surprising. His behaviour over the years has gone far beyond mere dissent, or even strong dissent. Blocking e-mail seems a bit silly and a waste of effort; why not just ignore it?

#1: Shouldn't there be something on the page with the disciplinary status? Was he really telling everyone not to sanction, or was he just joking with someone in his not-so-funny style?

#2: What did Nikko L. do to get on the "bad" list?

He isn't sponsored by Innova?

Man it had been WAY too long since I was on Probation and it seems my "artful spelling" did the trick?

I remember being called some bad names (personal attack) by a former PDGA ED and nothing was ever done to put him on probation but then again he wasn't on the "PDGA Wall of Shame either" although he is kinda angry.

I too would encourage Louisiana TDs not to run PDGA sanctioned tournaments. It is very easy to commit a felony in Louisiana running our typical pooled entry fee format with cash and prizes payout. Those kinds of games are illegal in Louisiana, and the promoters and operators can be prosecuted. The PDGA exposes itself to felony prosecution every time it sanctions a tournament in Louisiana. I think Louisiana's former state coordinator did not run for re-election because he does not do felonies. Same reason why I resigned from the Board so many years ago. Mr. Kernan is doing the PDGA a favor if he is successfully convincing TDs there not to sanction. Strange that he would do the PDGA a favor, but he is a unique duck.

Thanks, Mr. Kernan, if you are reading.

In August of 2009, it was reported to the PDGA office that Louisiana state coordinator, Michael Kernan was publicly making derogatory comments about the PDGA and encouraging tournament directors in his state not to sanction their events. Additionally, Mr. Kernan was also serving his second consecutive one year suspension from the PDGA Discussion board for an ongoing series of rules violations including repeated personal attacks against members.

As a result of his failure to fulfill the responsibilities of Louisiana state coordinator, as well as his inability to properly represent the PDGA in his state, the PDGA Board of Directors unanimously voted to remove Mr. Kernan from that position. Despite the misleading assumptions posted above, the PDGA has not refused membership or blocked e-mails from Mr. Kernan and any references to these types of discussions in any board minutes are totally unrelated to Mr. Kernan.

In accordance with established PDGA policy, the PDGA office staff and board members selected Philip Pedro, #34554 to fill the position of Louisiana state coordinator until the current term expires in 2011. We sincerely appreciate Mr. Pedro stepping up to serve the PDGA members in Louisiana and we look forward to working with him to promote and grow the sport of disc golf, and serve the members in his state.

No one cares.
It is just Louisiana.
They have, what, like 47 members and 2 events?

There are several watching how this plays out.

I believe many of us care.

Keep up the fight for right.

ps: I just noticed that there's 1400m difference in our hometown elevations.

So Steve, why aren't there more PDGA events in Louisiana? Are players clamoring for PDGA events? Didn't you just RUN a PDGA charity event that drew 161 people?

What's the real problem, Steve?

Most players there see little benefit in having PDGA. They have recently showed modest interest in the ratings system but it doesn't seem to be enough to make the majority of events switch over.

The state only has 47 members so most events would charge the majority of the players $10 extra which is one of the reasons the SN tour started in the first place. Also it isn't the main issue but maybe the legal issues with running events in LA have a small part in it as well.

Rus,

I question your questions, you already know the answers.

Steve, sounds like your situation is as unique as ours is. We are in a "no-man's land" between PDGA and SN territory and our attendance reflects that. That's why we've ran dual sanctioned events the past two years (and one in June 2008). We won't have any more competition endowment grants, so we'll have to reevaluate who we sanction which tournament with. I'd like to have just SN and/or PDGA events through the year.

And we're lucky to have some great volunteers, but we need more. I'd think in an area like NO you would be able to get more participation in the tournament process. I actually had club members that didn't do anything during our event which irritated the hell out of me, but with those people you mentioned, we pulled it off.
