Do we know what discs we are getting in the players pack yet?
raymandisc
Apr 03 2010, 06:21 PM
FYI, the website is temporarly down. We'll get back up soon.
Not sure what discs you will get. In the past we've had as many as 4 discs and a shirt and other nick nacks. Innova usually wants to do the new thing as well as Discraft and Gateway. I'm not running this bad boy this year but Chris Kinsella is doing a great job and I'm sure you'll be impressed with the event. Our club has almost 400 members so far this year and we run 4 pools so there should be no 5 somes. There will be a new course added for some of the players. Rock Spring in Alton, IL. This course is hilly like Sioux passage with many holes you'll want to stay in the fairway.
If it's anything like last year which I'm sure it will be you'll get 4 discs a shirt, dinner on Saturday and beer. Oh and we had a live band.
All the courses have concrete tee pads.
Hope you can make it.

I don't know how long any of the out of towners will be in the area but there is going to be a c-tier at rock spring in alton the sunday before the st louis open. If anything it might be worth it for some of the golfers within a few hour drive to hit this up too and get a chance to see rock spring.

Right across the river from Sioux Passage in North St. Louis is an awesome course in Rock Spring Alton IL. This bad boy has mature tree, hilly and at times difficult but very fair. Not all divisions will play this one but it's a great addition to the ST LOUIS OPEN. Hope you can make it.

Now for the changes yes we have them too, it was something the club has wanted to do for some time. We talked about it but really, that is all that happened until about 40 days ago. Due to a scheduling conflict the Citys needs exceed Disc Golfs needs..Soooo here we are, we are going to make the best of it.
Right now I feel bad, no strike that, horrible that I had to look Nikko in the eye and tell him we were unable to secure his home course. This is huge because it changes the tourney for the pros, it makes him vulnerable, removing a big edge the reigning champion would normally have over the competition by taking Endicott away from him, and in return he may not play.
For this I will take responsibility I know Nikko understands adversity and survival, I was really hoping to push this tourney for the other pros to come here and beat Nikko on his own turf, if they could, that is. Now it looks like, and fortunately for The River City Flyers sake, we still have enough guys that will take on all comers, Geoff Bennett, who last year was winning until the final nine at Endicott, will still want another shot at the St. Louis Open Crown, and Brian Johnson Half Slice- who could easily be on top, or the ever present George Smith, or locals Neil Brown and Roger Reyes all have a shot. So the different looks will include:
1. Final Nine at Creve Coeur. This is the first final at the Big Gem. It is a spectator friendly venue and will be designed by the Hart Brothers. They have been listening to the critics, and have added some OB and made other improvements to make this course have a little bit of a different challenge.
2. Rock Springs This course is new and will be played by all tournament players. It is slightly bigger than Endicott, has more elevation changes and baskets placements that will make the putter tremble. All the local pros I have asked about this course have given it thumbs up. There is a C tier tourney there a week prior to the St. Louis Open.
3. Not every pool plays the same courses; in short if you are in pool C or D then you play Endicott. If you are in pool A or B then you play Creve Coeur.
4. Payout packages and vouchers will be available for pools C and D at the final course for those who have to get moving home.
5. Our merchandise is hot, we will have some amazing offerings, our disc manager Red Keenan has put together some outstanding inventory that will pop out your eyes, and for members we have the best pricing.
So we have some different faces and places, but it still will be the best tournament money can buy.
Please pre-register now to get the best players pack and while you are at join our club too!

When its comes to telling how nice these course are it is easy. Challenging, big, technical, and fun. The variation is what entices the player. You are the only one to blame if your score is high, but keep it in perspective, the courses are not par 54, hence your mindset must adapt, you are going to take more shots, concentrate longer, and that can wear on you. That is why we have the Players Party to ease your mind, fill your pallet, and maybe enjoy an ice cold Shafley beer.
It could be you, but you better register soon, only 16 Days to go.
Don't miss out! THE ST. LOUIS OPEN MAY 1 - 2

Are those 1st rd ratings right?? just 1 1000 rated round in open?
cgkdisc
May 02 2010, 10:54 AM
No. They haven't coded in the proper course layouts to produce correct unofficial ratings yet.
mkane
May 03 2010, 09:26 AM
We assumed the codes would carry over from the original master TD report, but have discovered that they have to be changed manually for the live scoring when you up-load. In retrospect we were able to have the scores uploaded within an hour of the end of the second round and the ratings will correct when the official TD report is sent in.
I cannot thank Mary Beth Kinsella enough for stepping up and making sure the numbers worked out not only for the scores but also the financial areas of the TD report. The TD report is an important tool that you have to be proficient with to run an efficient event.
Thanks so much Mary Beth.

Well its over, but its not! The time to move forward is now; we must not rest on our laurels. But first, I want to thank the St. Louis Disc Golf Club Members; we have now surpassed the 400 member threshold; please continue to increase our membership.
First I would like to thank the president of the River City Flyers, Chris Kinsella, who had the confidence in me to direct the 2010 St. Louis Open. Second I want to express my extreme respect for Bob Waidman, who through out the years I have been in St. Louis, has always been there for this organization. This year was no exception. Bob directed the Rock Spring Course in Illinois, came back to Endicott, helped pre-package the prize payouts during the players party, and provided all of the beverages for the tournament. Bob, we will be forever grateful for your tireless efforts to promote disc golf in the St. Louis region.
The Course Directors who prepared their courses and managed each pool.
Members, please reflect for a moment, St. Louis courses themselves are perhaps the cleanest, well maintained, managed courses in the region.
Jefferson Barracks Mark Dudenhoffer and Crew
Sioux Passage Francis Albenese and Crew
Creve Coeur Ben Hart and his Crew
Endicott Tim Finan and Crew
Rock Spring Jeff Ligon Bo Toebe and Crew; be informed that the Southern Illinois Chain Gang was key in making this tournament happen. When the tournament bookings had gone amiss they grabbed our hand and pulled through in the clutch. Remember this friend, show support for events hosted by the Southern Illinois Chain Gang.
The tournament ON TIME start up is an absolutely necessity for an event to be considered a Quality Event. Late Fee, I hate you but respect your impact.
The Food Coordinator this year was Matt Augustine, who organized a team to make this happen. A special thanks to his wife and family who endured the Missing Matt as he worked his magic that perpetuated excellence for the rest of the group. Guests/participants comments about the food: You can tell this was not his first rodeo.
The Inventory Coordinator Red Keenan, responsible for our incredible selection of discs from Gateway, Innova, Discraft and DGA. Red worked with our key sponsors to make the players packs the best reason to come to The St. Louis Open.
The Scorecard Runners transporting the leader boards that followed the pools, thank you.
The Spotters, who were able to keep the players moving through several of the more difficult areas of our championship courses, thank you.
LS Discs, Lars; thank you for being there to accentuate an incredible selection of disc golf merchandise, organizing the Glow Tourney, and advising me on tournament issues and rulings occurring during this tournament. The St. Louis River City Flyers welcomed your presence and look forward to working with you soon.
The Players Program, Leader Board Cards and Scorecards and Window Decals produced by Slik were a hit. Also thanks to Slik for other gap filing measures i.e. Sponsor Signs and Logos, Food and Merchandise Vouchers, Course Closed Signs, revitalizing the Creve Coeur Chastity Belts and whatever else I am missing, Viva La Revolucion . I am proud to be associated with this group of disc golf enthusiasts who promote disc golf events, provide quality support and merchandise that fill in the gaps where needed; yet prefer to remain modest and be only known as Slik. Thank You to everyone who supports the Slik movement displaying clothing and decals promoting disc golf in our community.
Finally a Thank You to all of the sponsors that have donated money, merchandise, and time to make this event the annual showcase of St. Louis Disc Golf, without you this would not be possible.
