Well here I am in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sitting in a small cheap @$$ hotel with Treat (no not Michael) (no not Andrew) Matthew, Aaron Triska, and Devan 'The Dude' Owens. We are all cramming into a little room with two double beds, a 17" TV, and a little bathroom. We have roughly 150 Frisbees packed into our room along with two weeks of clothes. But we are having a freaking blast.

We played a couple rounds of golf today and Sunset Park. The course is very Mcclure-Dovillio-esque. The first 3 holes are tough. If you get a 3 on them, you've scored well. All 3 of these have multiple mandos on them. After the first 3 holes you start getting into a stretch of holes that are very 'birdieable'. These 7 holes are ones that you would like to get. That is the front 9+1. The back 8 is where the round is made. There are some very difficult holes. On none of these holes can you take a break mentally. The only semi-easy hole is an island hole reminiscent of 17 @ Winthrop Gold, but a lot easier.

Tomorrow is the start of the biggest tournament of the year so far. I get to play with Nate Doss first round and Devan is teeing with Matt Orum. Devan is feeling very confident with the way his game is flying right now.

The great thing about all of this is that we are only 2 days into a 13 vacation. Next stop after Gentlemen's Club Challenge is The Memorial. Myself, Treat and Devan have all already spent a 'cool hun' on discs that Dan Pastore of ABC Discs had at the course. If you are wanting some sweeeeet 11x rocs, let us know.

We'll try and keep everyone updated on our trip. If you have any comments let us know.

Peace.

Josh, if you have time try and play a private course there. i don't remember the name but it is in a private upscale neighborhood and it is beautifull and fun. Ask one of the locals about it. It is worth the time to play.

As far asIknow Furdog and myself are the only okies to play it.

Is this it?...

Peccole Ranch is located on the west part of the valley. This 18-hole course is part of the private residential area it is open 8:00am to dusk; rules are enforced. This is a technical course it is built into the wash so it is very narrow with wooded areas work around. Holes 15-18 are difficult to find, after hole 14 you must walk along Charleston Blvd. to continue to the next hole. Those last few were redone last year; turf was removed and replaced with desert landscaping.

Sad to hear they took out some of the turf. All of thos hole were fun. I played with locals and one of the holes they said I was one of the few birdies they had seen on it. I don't hink they had been around much.:)

That was probably the best groomed, land scaped and manicured course area i have ever played on. Super nice at about 7:30am. We played there after about a 3 day Vegas marathon of drinking, gambling and no sleep.

I played both courses and the nice one is VERY tough to follow if you're not with a local. It winds through a nice neighborhood, crosses streets and zig zags a little.

Sunset is flat and some of the holes are long. I think Devan will do better at the Memorial. The Fountain course is great for lefties because a lot of the baskets are on peninsula's with the water on the left, as I found out a few times!!

I talked to Matt a couple of times and they are having a blast. He is going to caddy for Devan in Vegas then play the am event at the Memorial.

Good luck to everyone, big events. Tulsa representing!!

Round 1 is in the books. The weather was incredible! I don't think the wind ever reached 5mph. The temperature was mid 60s and sunny for the most part. This just so happened to set up for a couple of good rounds for the boys of OK.

I tee'd off with Nate Doss and the nerves were prevalent. I was on the box and threw my drive into the ground about 250 off the tee on a 600' hole. Then my next shot was ~300 feet and I didn't really feel the head wind. My disc flipped a little and I missed a mando making me shoot my next shot from about ~70. I then drained my first putt of the day! Gave a little fist pump and a run to the basket for celebration and took my 4 gladly. The next hole is a big 700+ ft hole the plays around 3 mando light poles that used to set around a baseball field. So I plays a huge anhyzer for a righty and a big boy hyzer for a lefty. I was still fairly nervous and threw a big drive that kissed off the first mando and went way down the fairway and set up perfect for my next shot. Triska made some comment about calming down, and that is exactly what I did. I 3'd 2 and 3 and then got 6 of the next 7 holes. I slowed down the rest of the round. I got a few good 3's and missed a few putts, but all in all finished the round strong. I ended up with a 51 that won my card and was the hot round at the moment.

From what I hear from Devan, he had a very similar round that I did. He parred hole 1 and missed a mando on hole 2 and then he smashed a 50 footer for par on hole 3. He missed a birdie hole and then went off with 6 birds in a row. He was pushing through and got a big birdie on a difficult hole that Matt Orum layed up on to take his 3. He is then 5 down going into a fairly easy island hole and missed. He got is 4 and went on to the next hole. This is a huge lefty hyzer hole were a 3 is a bird. He bombs his destroyer and it is looking really good, then boinks a tree putting him in a very difficult second shot. Then he finally gets to the basket and has a putt for 4 and chains out left. He makes up for the last two holes on 18 by throwing 'The Beast' to about 10 feet. He finished a little low, but really played well all in all.

Now we are chilling in the hotel watching the Sweden v. Canada curling gold medal game. By the looks of it Devan and I both shot a 1054 rated round and are on the Lead and 2nd card. My card tomorrow will be consisting of 1033, 1010, 1033. Looks like the weather is predicting rain for tomorrow all day, so it should be the same for everyone.

Well, today was a little bit of a disappointment to say the least for myself. Not so much for The Dude. Putting on the first hole, I heard the crowd roar on the tee pad. So I turn around see this blue disc lying about under 100 feet away on a 600+ foot hole and then I see Devan turning around and the crowd still clapping about the bomb that was just delivered with The Beast. Devan continued to play fairly solid the rest of the round, only scoring bogeys, but only getting 2 birdies. He ended up shooting a solid 54, 1027 rated round.

I on the other hand, had a horrid start and then played semi solid after the first 3 holes. As Wilkes put it, I played my first 3 holes about 850, and the rest of the round about 1030. For some reason it took me 10 holes to get my round really going. I finally was able to throw my buzzzes and got a couple of birdies back to back. I shot 6 over on the first 3 holes and then finished the last 15 holes at 1 over. I only had 2 birdies the entire round and couldnt get anything really going. But I will say that I felt that the practice that I have been putting in has really come through. I have really been working with just pushing through the bad round and not letting myself give up and fight as much as I can.

The round today is over, and we have 1 more round tomorrow to see where everyone finishes. I am hoping to really play well again. Devan is really hoping for another steady consistent round. We really appreciate the words that everyone has sent us, and we hope and strive to make everyone proud and to represent OK in a good manner.

The Dude --> Tonight --> Vegas --> $800 --> Here's the plan!!! You know I'm psychic, I know things, here is how you party like a rock star tonight.

Go throw a C-note on the blackjack table and let all of it roll 2 times, (2 HANDS ONLY!!!Just because you hit BlackJack on your second hand doesn't mean you should ply on.) =$500 off to the roulette table, put half on each bottom 1/3 and middle 1/3 after it hits in the upper 1/3 threes times in a row, be patient, it will turn into $1000. Walk over and let it roll on the Craps table on the pass line 3 consecutive first rolls from a new roller.
$3000 TRUST ME!!!! Then off to club and find some west coast hussie and buy her drinks with $100 bills every time ohhhh the days.

:)

That was just your warning shot for next week @ the Memorial. Can't wait to watch next week on Discplanet.

I practiced both courses today. Everyone I played with was losing discs in the lakes right and left, but I was mostly managing the courses well. I do like these courses. Both courses play right next to water on about half to 1/3 of the holes. All my practice at Hunter helped me a lot today to keep most of my equipment dry. My only mistake was an upshot at Fountain Hills on touranment hole #8. I could see the top of the basket, the lake was to my left, so I took my trusty 11x firebird and thew a little 150' 2-finger upshot that looked like it almost hit the basket post. When I walked over the rise, to my dismay, the ground sloped downward away from the basket at about a 30 degree angle with water directly behind it due to a little cove jutting out from the main body of the lake, and my beloved 11x was nowhere to be seen in the murkey water. Blind casts with my Skinn-saver were fruitless. After the round, I came back for a little swimmin' but to no avail. . . . maybe I should have walked that course first . . . oh well, live and learn!

I'm in the market for a good-condition champion 11x flat-top firebird now.

I haven't seen The Dude and Josh yet, but I spotted Eric McCabe and Feldberg practicing with their respective honeys. I'm sure all the pros will be out tomorrow.

I am under the belief that Devan ‘The Dude’ Owens took a huge step in his disc golf career. He had a lot of confidence the entire day we practiced, the night before the tourney, the day of the 1st round, the 1st round, the 2nd round, and obviously the 3rd round. Devan put it to 3 of the top pros in the world, playing with Feldberg (58), Avery (52), and Anthon (54). That ladies and gentlemen is a tail whippin’! But aside from that, Devan had an incredible tournament. There were times where he had a lot of confidence, maybe too much, but other times where he seemed very humble about his game. And it spoke for itself. Devan spoke of a few times where it seemed that those guys were maybe a little rattled due to the high wind that was coming in from the Vegas desert. In the words of Devan, “I just played well. I executed all of my shots.”

If it hadn’t been for the park job of a roller that Barry threw on 18, there would have been a 3 man playoff, with Nikko and Devan. But, all in all, Devan played very well.

I am happy with the way the tournament ended up overall. If you would have told me beforehand that I would have won $203 and beat a couple of 1000 rated players, then I would have said, “Yes please.” On the other hand, I am a little upset with the way the whole tourney panned out. I was very confident with my game in our warm-up day, and it carried over to the first round. For some reason, I was unable to carry the confidence over to the next two rounds. I was really having some mental issues and a few mechanical issues that affected my score. But as I was talking with Triska about, I have realized that everything is a learning experience. All of the practice, minis, tournaments, putting sessions have all been a learning experience. Let’s see if I can actually take all that I’ve learned and use it for this weekend.

We are finally in Scottsdale, and were able to play a few holes at Vista this evening. Again, I find my self very nervous going into our practice day before the tourney. My desires for this tourney are to stick to the game plan, keep an even keel, and make some putts. Devan is very confident coming back here after busting out last year, getting 9th at the first NT of the year. In just the few holes we played this evening, it seemed that Vista sets up very well for a powerful lefty, such as The Dude.

This week the T-Town crew will be joined up with the likes of Matthew Treat, Jim Guerin, and Adam Hunt. Matt has been lugging around Devan’s bag all week long and finally is getting the chance to unleash on the course. On our first hole in Scottsdale, he threw a very nice looking shot on a 280ish hole, but his Eagle straightened out a little too much and there just happened to be a storm drain behind the hole, and … bloop! Down goes the 11x Eagle. But we are excited to have everyone here and hope that everyone plays well.

Here’s to a good day of practice learning the courses,

Cheers.

Ps – Dr. Jim, I would love to have you come and caddy for me if you weren’t going to be doing anything that day. I will be playing with Jeff Layland and John Childs, so it should be a pretty good card.

Great Job Devan, Crowl & Adam!!!

Here is a little tip that has led to good success for me over the years at the Memorial ....keeping your discs dry and out of the water takes you a LOOOOONG ways there. Both years that I took 3rd & 6th I only had 1 OB each. It may not be the sexy way to attack the holes to take the long way around the water instead of the risky way over the water, but a par never hurts, but a double circle can ruin your weekend....KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS!!!!
