Its almost time again for the Paul Giles Memorial, held annually in Athens, Texas. The date is set for April 17 & 18, 2010. This is a sanctioned C tier event. Online registration is up at TitleDISC.com for those of you interested in playing. We are proud to announce that we will be running the tournament locally this year, thanks to Mark Nolan, who stepped up and got his officials certification and whatnot. The Athens Community Disc Club (ACDC) is working with the city to get at least a few concrete tee pads put in before the tournament - worst tee pads will be the 1st to be fixed. I am working with the Athens Tourism department in order to get everyone the best deals possible on hotels as well as a restaurant to host a Saturday night players meeting. We hope to see many of you there...more information will be forthcoming...:)

I think it's only about 2 hours from DFW so I'll try to make this one. I love traveling, even if just a little bit, to play new courses . thanks for using titledisc as that makes it much easier :)

We'd love to see as many people as possible make it out for the Paul Giles this year. Just to let you all know, the city is working to put concrete tee pads onto the course. Today, they are putting in a tee on hole 4 - I personally saw them pouring the concrete for this one. We hope to have as many concrete tee pads in as possible prior to the tournament. City of Athens will be installing tees on holes 2 and 3 next. If you would like to be kept up to date on tee pads, etc...you can find out more by going to the Athens Community Disc Club facebook page and becoming a fan. :)

As of today, the Cain Park course has concrete tee pads on holes 1, 2, 4, 5, & 6. We are waiting to hear from the city to find out when the next round of tees are going to be poured. If all goes well and we don't get much more rain, the rest of the course will be dry enough to pour pads in a couple of weeks. Hope you all can make it out to play in this year's tournament! When coming out, don't forget to bring some canned food items, as we will put your name into a drawing for every 2 cans of food you bring. There will be muptiple names drawn for various disc golf related prizes and all canned food will be donated to the Henderson County Food Pantry. :)

ACDC members have volunteered to grill up some food for lunch between rounds on both Saturday and Sunday. This means that you do not have to leave to get your grub on! We will be grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, etc. (and there is always the possibility to get some of Lew's famous potato salad and perhaps if we ask nicely enough, he might cook us up a brisket!) There will be a small charge for lunch, but I guarantee it will be cheaper than buying from a fast food joint! We will also be selling waters and sodas, chips, candy - etc.

Thanks Timmy. I think I just like to hear myself type or think or something on here. Yes, Cain Park with concrete tee pads. We don't have them all in (as we have to go on the city's time schedule) but we have holes 2, 4, 6 (and of course 1 & 5) in already and they seem to be doing their jobs. The city keeps saying they are going to put in #3 as well, hopefully they'll do it prior to our tourney. As for the rest, the city is waiting for the ground to become very dry so they can bring a cement truck in to do them (we will probably have them all installed sometime this summer, according to the city). But, we will take what we can get, when we can get it - besides, we'll play on concrete or dirt or mud or whatever, just to be able to play! - Timmy, your ideas were both awesome and we look forward to seeing you at the Giles. Until then take care of yourself!

It's been a long time since I have played in a tournament down there, I mean a really long time, like mid 90s, maybe, but you are making it tempting for me to come back down there.

Any chance you can get "sweet" Lew Satterfield to play?

But of course! Lew is actually my doubles partner :D And he WILL be there and playing...we like to call him the "Legendary Lew Satterfield" tho...I'll have to call him "sweet" some time and catch his reaction! Burt Lively will be there but I doubt if he's going to play. We also have Casey "Zilla" Sills (who might decide to play) and a few other of Lew's older buddies who still play. Actually, one of Lew's daughters is considering playing too...Katie. So come on out and you guys can have a bit of a reunion and play on a course thats still awesome after all these years!

Pretty rough weekend there jenn ? :D

I was rough on my self Timmy. I definitely didn't bring my "A" game with me to TWC - LOL. But, that just means that I have mega room for improvement for next year! I did get some awesome discs that I had to try out as soon as it was daylight here Monday! All in all TWC was a great experience and I hope that more East Texas ladies will step up and play in it with me next year :p

As for our wonderful PGM happening this week, I was informed Ziggy King will be showing himself at the course around 2:30 on Friday afternoon. The city poured #3 tee earlier this week and have the forms laid out to pour holes #13 - #15 & #16 today (so they should be dry for the weekend). I have to say, I am glad they decided to pour those because they were pretty crappy tee boxes, especially #16 - so, we'll have 9 of the permanent holes with concrete tees for the tourney  See you all there in a couple of days!

Tee pads were poured and are looking good. Today was pretty darned sunny & warm so I don't think we'll have a problem with them not being dry by tournament time

Josh from TitleDisc is actually handling the payout (thanks Josh!) so ultimately the decision is up to him whether or not he wants to do prepackaged or pick your own. I'll ask him tomorrow evening when he gets into Athens.
