I'm going to be in the Charlotte area this week and was looking for a few good suggestions on courses. So, please respond with the names of your favorites or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Hi Amp,

All four of the 18-holers in Charlotte are noteworthy on their own merit. Each has it's own unique offering. So, it depends what you like.

Visit www.charlottedgc.com (http://www.charlottedgc.com) and you can take virtual tours of the courses and hopefully make good choices that line up with your preferences. Maps, directions, weekly events, and pictures/videos are all included.

Hope you enjoy your visit,
dave...

DEF. hit renny and Hornests Nest. You almost might want to head down to Rock Hill - only 30 min. south of charlotte.

I'm going to Charlotte, NC for Thanksgiving. I'm from Michigan and would love to play courses out of state. What is the best course within a 30 mile radius of Charlotte?

Hornet's Nest

After playing it once, it took over the #1 course spot in my book. Have fun!

all you need to make your decision should be able to be found on our club website - www.CharlotteDGC.com (http://www.CharlotteDGC.com)

If you have high-speed internet you can easily take a Be the Disc! video tour of all the courses. With low speed internet that will be cumbersome, but you can still get a great feel for them via aerial photo maps with embedded pictures.

All 4 of our 18 hole courses are unique and enjoyable. Each will cater to a different set of tastes and skill levels.

Beyond Charlotte, you may want to visit Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC (15-25 miles away). This is the home of the USDGC. Our site has maps for both the Gold (USDGC) and Lakefront courses. Of course, the USDGC set up with all the OB's defined is no longer set up as such. I believe that all the baskets are in place though.

Enjoy!

With Kayak in your username you ought to hit the international whitewater center while you are in Charlotte. We hope to get a course in that park someday. There are 8 18 hole courses in Charlotte for you to choose from. The newest two are at Elon Park a par 66 7000'er and Nevin Park a par 67 8000'er. Nevin is not yet listed on this page of our website since it is very new. http://www.charlottedgc.com/courses.asp

This page, http://www.pdga.com/course_directory/zipcode?filter0=28201 , from the PDGA website will show you the courses in the area.

"Best" is a subjective description but we feel that if you like challenge that you can't miss with Hornet's Nest, Renaissance, Nevin, Elon "Angry Beaver" and just south of the border you have Winthrop. Stumpy Creek just north of Charlotte will put a whuppin' on you too.

And "if you like a challenge", that's the expert speaking.

How does Nevin compart with Elon Long? So hard to judge from pictures on wooded courses---they look the same online. I've played Elon and was wonder if Nevin is harder/easier/longer/shorter/tighter/opener/whatever.

Nevin is about 1000' longer. It is a lot like a stretched out Elon. (Elon being just over 7000' and Nevin just beyond 8000') There are a few scary greens too where your putt could lead you to a couple extra strokes if you miss. I have no problem shooting under par at Elon Angry Beaver, but Nevin can really ream you a new one if you are off your game.

Man, if you'd built courses like that 10 years ago, when all we had was DX plastic, imagine how many discs we'd have ruined hitting all those trees!

So in in the unlikely event I survive threading 8,000 feet of trees, up and down and twisting around, there are dangerous greens waiting to ambush me? Yikes!

And Cool!
