New Orleans, Saturday, March 13
C-tier Comp Endowment/Charity event
Southern Nationals Qualifier
Vibram Open Qualifier (http://www.maplehillopen.com/players.html)

Natural stop after the Memorial on your way to GA's Super 6 -The Crucible or
the pro side of the Melbourne Open.

Matty Orum will be back this year vying to get his name on the traveling trophy for the third time.
Can anyone give him a run for the title?
This is also an excellent time to pick up your Southern Nationals points
that allow you to enter the Southern Nationals Championships.

We will feed everyone lunch with a catered buffet.
Our course is fairly open in a beautiful park.

We have online registration with Marshall Street (http://www.marshallstreetdiscgolf.com/product/19202/NOTeam-10-Pot-of-Gold/).

You can get full information at Southern Nationals Schedule (http://www.sndg.org/stats/event.php/1126) page.

WARNING: The above link will take you to the SN discussion board.
Some of the views expressed there are not entirely favorable to the PDGA, imagine that.

Sponsorship makes our tourney special, NOTeam puts on a memorable event,
the players talk about the PoG all year long and we want ALL to consider attending.

Wow, I'm back. Can't remember how long it's been since I've been a PDGA Member, never mind how long since my last post here on PDGA Discussion. Years. But I had a change of heart talking to Cliff Towne, the guy who puts together the PDGA Course Directory. I was trying to figure out how to enter into the online Course Directory a new course that a bunch of us frisbee volunteer types had just got in the ground smack dab in the middle of Massachusetts, and Cliff Towne told me how easy it was, just enter your user name and password and I had to interrupt him right there with the bad news that I wasn't a PDGA Member, so my password wasn't going to work.

Cliff told me it would work even if I wasn't a PDGA Member, and in the course of our conversation he also informed me that it wasn't necessary to be a PDGA Member to post on discussion.

That sounded mighty fine, that the PDGA had seen the light and had become a kinder, gentler and more inclusive organization now that the rat-faced Canadian vortex was gone. So my heart spontaneously grew two sizes like the Grinch and I went and joined the PDGA, and even went overboard and signed my next tournament up as a PDGA event, cause players like PDGA tournaments so they can see their ratings and all.

And I told this to my good friend Steve Timm, and he said Cliff Towne was wrong. That you still had to be a PDGA Member to post on Discussion. Which was a little disappointing to learn but, heck, it makes sense with all the yahhoos posting a bunch of drivel anyway. Why not leave the PDGA Discussion posting exclusively to PDGA Members.

"At least they're not all secretive about their finances like they used to be when the rat-faced Canadian vortex ran the show," I countered hopefully, woefully uninformed as I was. And Steve told me straight up that they are completely secretive about where the PDGA money goes, and that only for a brief period of near mutiny on the PDGA Board back when Pat Brenner was part of it did the PDGA ever publish its finances.

I had to ponder that for a while, as my PDGA heart was starting to shrivel back into the same lump of coal it was back when the aforementioned rat-faced Canadian vortex sat on the throne. Well, I thought to myself, at least it isn't run without due process and the rule of law like when it pretty much chased the great Cam Todd out of the game with its kangaroo court-like shenanigans. Then I remembered how my other good Louisiana friend, the famous Mikey Kernan, lasted eight short days as his state's PDGA Coordinator, which sounds like an awfully brief period of time for anything resembling due process to run its course.

But I remained optimistic, cause as we get older we can overlook the shortcomings of a semi-volunteer organization -- I say SEMI-volunteer cause pretty much everybody's a volunteer except for the few people making the big bucks except we don't know how big cause they won't tell us -- and we can forgive a few inconsistencies and inefficiencies and even a few contradictions that don't really bother anyone who isn't thinking about them.

Because I'm running a PDGA event for the first time in about seven years -- about 40 tournaments ago -- and I'm doing it for the players. And I'm partly right. A few players say right on to PDGA sanctioning, but a larger number ask, with no small consternation and disappointment, "Jason why would you EVER do such a thing?" And Maureen writes "You crushed my soul a little" when I made the tournament a PDGA event.

So I'm like, Okay, so maybe this PDGA decision was a bit premature, and maybe I could have researched the matter a bit more, but at least when I have to collect the extra 10 bucks from all my friends who don't give a rat's butt about their round ratings it won't be going to pay the salary of the rat-faced Canadian vortex.

But it turns out the rat-faced Canadian vortex is pulling down 18 grand a year to run PDGA Europe. It's not like I know this for a fact or anything, just because a current Board member told me.

So I figure I've got a PDGA Membership and I'll be running a PDGA C-Tier in a couple weeks so I might as well get my money's worth and pretty much come and go with a bang.

So bang.

I would like to mention that I did attend the Pot of Gold two years ago and it was one of the funnest events, PDGA or otherwise, I've ever attended. And no doubt this year's will live up to its stellar reputation.

Go Steve Timm. Go Mikey Kernan. And long live the ****** PDGA.

I sure hope the mods don't get you about the RF-C but if they do it will be pretty sad considering that same RF-C called me names just to be let off the hook by Mr. Shive a year or so ago.

Also I can't wait to see my boy Mikey and visit this sweet course I have been hearing so much about in NOLA. Personally for me the sanctioning makes it less appealing.........but that is only because I wasn't going to play any C-tiers this year but the PoG has been on my list for a while and this is the year I go to NOrleans.
