Circular Productions is ready to register players for the 2010 Amateur Doubles World Championships which are held annually at Circle R Disc Golf Ranch in Wimberley, Texas.

John and I would like to invite players to visit the website and use the registration form on our website www.circularproductions.com under the tournament tab.

Each year the sport's up-and-coming Amateurs choose a partner and battle for the World Doubles Champion title.

The tournament features two days of play on Circle R's two courses and multiple formats of doubles play. All players must be current PDGA members with Amateur classification.

You can see past years photos:
2008 Championships here: http://www.circularproductions.com/amwd08pics/index.html 2009 Championships here: http://www.circularproductions.com/am_09_photos.html

There is water in the creek and the ponds after a long drought and we are getting the courses ready for the 2 day event which starts on Saturday March 20th and ends on Sunday March 21th. Players can come to the ranch anytime on Friday and check in early, set up camp and play practice rounds. For special requests or questions, please call me, Dee at 512-426-7722.

We have camping available for players and guests for $10 a night per person if you would like to camp at the ranch during this time. We welcome spectators and encourage players to invite their friends and family. There are numerous bed and breakfasts in Wimberley and South Austin is only 30-40 minutes from the ranch. Downtown Austin is 50-60 minutes from the ranch. San Antonio is 45-50 minutes from the ranch. Either airport makes it easy to get here.

We will have lunch available on Saturday and Sunday by reservation and Saturday night we will have Ring of Fire, give out prizes, recognize sponsors, mingle with everyone around the bon fire. We will have also have free beer and snacks. Sunday after finals we hand out the prizes as we recognize all the winners. We usually serve drinks and cookies during this time.

We will be filming this tournament and we will be interviewing players and guests for a documentary to be released at a later date.

Come on Down to TEXAS and enjoy a great time disc golfin'. But you better do it fast-- before we fill up!

Contact Rosie at 512-970-9001 for more information.

Look forward to another great time!

How about campfires and B-B-Q grills, are any burn bans in affect? Have the courses been mowed yet?

DeeLeekhaHouck
Feb 28 2010, 11:42 PM
If the weather holds up, there should be no ban on campfires. So far, campfires are fine. There's lot of water in the creeks and some in the ponds. The grass is mowed. The ranch is ready for the tournament!

See you then.

Thanks Dee! I would love to see the ponds full again , it's been at least six or seven years since I've seen it full. The water just adds to the beauty and difficulty of the courses. See you guys in a couple of weeks!

So if there are 36 Advanced MA1 teams, does that mean only 2 will be shut out of the finals?

Just Curious...

Shaine
Mar 11 2010, 09:21 PM
Last year all 36 adv teams played in the finals. My partner hurt his back and we were pretty much bottom dwellers all weekend, but still got to play in the finals. I think they pretty much cap the MA2 division, but we get a final round.

Mar 11 2010, 09:42 PM
The question is, will teams really be turned away when it is determined that someone "forgot" to renew their PDGA membership?

Is it too much to ask, for the amount of money people are paying to play this tournament, that a players list be derived on the PDGA site so people can see who is who and where they are from and ratings and such. I think people would be suprised how many people on the current list are not current.

Shaine
Mar 11 2010, 09:54 PM
Disregard my post. I guess I failed reading in high school. It is clearly posted on the website that the top 34 MA1 teams make the finals. I guess we weren't as far from the bottom as I thought, despite being a partner short. This year will be fun. Hopefully my partner will avoid in slipage and not injure his back. Much love Wiemann!

Yeah... the registration was $85 a piece. So, for $170 a team, was there a fat player's pack last year or is the payout heavy?

How does that 85 break down?

Just wondering...

Looking forward to seeing the courses.

Hi, everyone --

We've had a huge response this year, which is great to see. In order to accommodate the great interest, so we're looking to add two extra teams to each pool. We've had a few teams drop out in the last 48 hours, and we're getting the list of teams updated. Right now it looks like we MAY be able to handle one more Advanced team, so if you know of anyone looking to play, have them call us at 512-970-9001 or e-mail cp@moment.net

We'll be posting updated teams with pools later today, and we'll have the schedule up tomorrow.

Looking forward to a great weekend.

Thanks,
John

Mar 17 2010, 01:05 PM
The updated list is now accessible from

http://www.circularproductions.com/amateur_world_doubles_09.html

Jarrod, did you get my e-mail yesterday? If not, please send an e-mail to cp@moment.net to verify that we have the right address. You are #1 on the waiting list for Pool A. You'll get in if an Advanced team drops OR if another Advanced team signs up -- we'll go ahead and make it a pool of 38 in that case.

If anyone on the waiting list gets in, we will notify you immediately via phone or e-mail.

We have teams from 18 states this year -- what a great turnout.

Thanks,
John

John, don't these two sentences in the rules document contradict each other?
String indicating OB on creek/pond holes supersedes water if less water is present.
There is no string OB in 2010.

johnrhouck
Mar 17 2010, 02:53 PM
Eric,

Fair question.

Normally string would indicate OB, but this year the ranch is full of water, so no string is needed. We'll clarify that on the webs site.

This year, only water will indicate OB. No string. Life is good.

Thanks,
John

It's one of the prettiest days ever here at Circle R. Friday was pretty sweet, too.

Saturday and Sunday were full of character-building (and character revealing) winds, rain, and chills. I have to say, as far as the overall attitude of the players, it was the most impressive World Doubles I can remember. LOTS of smiles through whatever happened.

The final scores are now up at:

They're back. Sorry about the snafu.
Minor correction in MA2: Esquivel/Mosley should be listed at 26th, not 27th.

To whomever picked up the red, white & blue 180g champion roc, situated 30' from the basket, lying o.b. in the pond by a mere 1' (and in only 3-6" of water which was crystal clear) on hole #17 on the Rolling Meadows during the Pool A Sunday Morning advanced round (since I checked after the round is over and it wasn't there), I sure would love to get that back.

I was hoping to have it returned, as I and many other players had done with many other discs during the tournament, but was very disappointed to see that it wasn't. If anybody remembers seeing this disc during that round (I started on hole 12 that round, so I was hoping that somebody right behind us could clue me in, like Josh Nix, or J.D. Baker, who were starting on the hole directly behind us, to name a couple) I would appreciate any help I could get trying to locate it. Not accusing, just hoping to get it back (perhaps somebody on that card picked it up and forgot to turn it in before they left).

Thanks!

Great Tournament John! We came from Ohio and had a blast. Even though thing's didn't go as well as we had hoped. The weather on Saturday was very rough and Sunday was a little better, if only the wind would of died down. All in all it was an absolute great time. The two courses were beautiful and in prime condition. Thank you John for running the best tournament we have ever been to.

Caley,

We were in the group with J.D and Josh and I do not remember seeing a champ Roc on hole #17. If we had seen it and picked it up we would definitely turn it in, I know how much a Champ Roc means to someone. Those discs are pretty rare. I hope it turns up for you!

Again I want to thank John & Dee for running a incredible tournament, We would come back and do it all again if we could, maybe in some better weather! haha.

Hey FishHead Tim! Talked to Steve Orlando yesterday and he says Hello!

Yo Caley- I dont remember seeing it either, but I was a little distracted because I just chunked my most overstable disc into that pond. A light blue Xcaliber. Horrible shot, tossed it almost in the middle of the drink. It would take a little more effort to get mine out, and I assume it is still in there right now. Hopefully someone turned your Roc in since then....

Josh and Nathan,

Thanks for the info...I guess it must have been somebody after your card that picked it up...I'll try not to lose any sleep about it, and hopefully it will turn up eventually..

Thanks John & Dee for a truly awesome-although challenging-weekend.
