Just left the course after watching the second round for awhile. The first thing to report is Jeremy's internet is down and he's not sure he'll get things posted in the timely manner we're used to seeing from him. I can tell you that after the first round Coda and Miles were tied for the lead ahead of a heard of turtles within four strokes of them. Mitch Mc was one up on Ron S. , but it was tied half way thru the second round when I left. All in all everyone's dealing with the brisk air coming off the lake and obviously having a good time.

That's right! I'd love to see 30+ Texas players show up to the GBO this year! The GBO is a more than the average DD tournament. Most DD Texas events just feature a Friday doubles competition, Saturday player meeting, two rounds of golf, and an awards ceremony. We pack up as fast as we can and head out and get back around 3-4am. The trips are always fast and furious it seems.
The GBO is truly a disc golf event. This year we will be doing a video shoot on Friday featuring some of the best players in the world, a doubles competition, putting and driving competition. Saturday will be the usual tournament setting but the day will end with an 'insane' players party where food will be provided and the putting finals will take place. This will be an excellent opportunity for players to get to know each other more and have a great time. The bar will be 99% disc golfers until the night life starts. Sunday will feature another two rounds, the $500 raffle skins match, and the distance competition finals! After the event we are encouraging everyone who is staying in town to join us at Montana Mike's for dinner and drinks as the event staff celebrates the end of the 2010 GBO. The city of Emporia is behind this event and the community is small. The furthest drive will be 10 minutes and the host hotel is more than affordable! www.glassblownopen.com
Anyway, back to the Winter Warm Up! What an awesome turnout of 192 players! Everything seemed to run smoothly besides the issues for the intermediate and rec divisions at L.L. Woods. I do apologize about the confusion there. It is always important to remember to just play a provisional if things are unclear. It keeps things moving and insures that the right ruling will be made.
We started the event at 9am and got everyone on the road by 6pm after shuffling nearly 100 players through the merchandise payout line! The support that all the Texas players show for DD is just amazing! We always have such a great time and only wish that the drive wasn't so long so that we could spend more time hanging out and getting to know more players. Look forward to seeing everyone at the next tournament in Lewisville May 8th. We are tossing the idea around of only playing out at the Lake and running the event in flights. Basically it would mean that the first round (A Flight) would start at 8:30, B Flight tee time 11:00, A Flight 2nd round 1:30 and B Flight 2nd round at 4. This would mean that that B flight would be finishing up at 6:15 or so and payout would immediately follow. With only 90-100 scores to process it would only take 5 minutes after the last card was turned in to proceed to the payout. I would expect everyone to be on the road at 7. If A-Flight was Int/Rec then these players would have the opportunity to watch the pros/advanced play during their round. The downside to this setup would be an hour longer lunch break and later departure for home on the B-Flight. I'd love to hear some feedback about this so that we can start planning the May event.

Sounds like a pretty interesting way to do it that has mostly upside Jeremy. Probably worth trying at the very least. It would for sure cut down on confusion between multiple parks. I know a handful of people seemed lost Saturday when they arrived at LL Woods late, or missed their hole assignment for whatever reason. Also, the F-150 gets like 14 miles to the gallon. I'm all about keeping the green dragon parked as much as possible.
