Is this date set in stone? The reason I asked is I have scheduled Junction's Ice Bowl on Feb. 27 after I talked to Live Oak, SADC, Waterloo and Mike S. so that there would be no conflicts in schedules. I am not upset about the schedule but more upset that I not be able to play this tournament again. Maybe someday.

Will Pro State Doubles be non-sanctioned this year? That may be the reason that a sanctioned event may get priority.
Luckily it is still early enough to get stuff hashed out. Don't pound on Gary, we all should have been clamoring for it a little sooner and it may have been addressed earlier. He's got one the tougher scheduling states in the country!

It'll be sad weekend if both are on the same weekend. We don't have crap for three months, then we start off with two on the same weekend in the same subregion of Texas? Something is seriously screwed up.

Probably the wrong thread and not to bash Mr. Duke for doing a thankless job but ... The January - April schedule should be set in stone, check that, granite, by January 1st. There are so many things that go into a gerat tourney like fundraising, marketing, & planning to not have the schedule set months in advance. I know some of that is on the PDGA to set the other dates and the same goes for them. Is that something we can set as a goal for next year?

The main issue as Mr. Duke explained it to me
Some Td's have still not contacted Gary ...( one sent in his events to the PDGA without talking to Gary at all)...and other TD's have not bothered to finalize their events after requesting a date....no dates are final untill that happens...It is up to the TD's to get the info to Gary

Good points. We need some public formus for Gary to post a tentative schedule with everything known on it. That way its open for all to see. More eyes = more chance to spot conflicts. I'm sure it will all get worked out ... it always does.

For one that is the SADC Ice Bowl. I believe Bird tried to find out when Vic was but couldn't. I know it isn't sanctioned and Vic is older and should take priorty but putting Vic on that date will cripple our ability to raise money for Operation Homefront Village. The major tourney dates should be set months in advance, not weeks. There are so many moving parts here, how does Gary keep it all straight

I hardly see how supporting the added cash or expenses of another tournament could be considered a charity unless TWC is setup as some sort of non-profit. I'm all for supporting women in disc golf and plan to do so by sponsoring some local players to play in the tourney.

Texas has had a rough go of scheduling for this year, but let's not get pitted against one another.
I would like to commend the leaders of third coast and players of their series for the quality work they have done for charity. We can't get sponsorship confused for real charity.
3rd Coast donated $400 to EDGE last year and almost $1,000 over the last two!:D EDGE relies on these donations to continue the perpetuation of the sport.
Over the last two years, EDGE has granted out over $7,000 to Texas schools, youth programs and youth tournaments. That's money that get used year after year.
Nice job Texas, let's keep it going:)

There will be two 18 hole courses this year and two pools of players.
Pool A: Open, Advanced
Pool B: Intermediate, Rec
$500 added cash.
Tons of raffle prizes!!!! (Proceeds to benefit the E.D.G.E. Program)
2 rounds of 18 holes Saturday
1 round of 18 Sunday
$500 9 hole SKINS MATCH!!!!!
The top 3 Open scores earn a spot
The top Am score gets a spot
There will be a fifth spot available for a chance at the cash.
This year we will be selling separate raffle tickets for a chance to win the 5th spot i the skins match. Tickets will be 3 for $5, so buy as many as you want for your chance to play with the big boys. Proceeds from this raffle sale to benefit TEXAS WOMEN'S Championships!!!!!! **Only the actual ticket holder will be eligible to play, so no buying someone's spot.....
Since there is no series this year, if no aces are hit during the tournament, then we will have a CTP for the full amount, probably broken down into 3 spots.

Some of you have played the old Fox Run course in the past, but this year is is very different.
In a combined effort between Riverside Disc Golf Club and 3rd Coast, we put together and designed an awesome course on the opposite site of Riverside park.
Here are the distances, please note we are not taking away three holes from the regular course, we have set-up 18 new holes and the regular course will play 21 holes.
Hole 1 300 ft
hole 2 290
hole 3 265 with a double mando, drop zone is 240 ft out if dont make mando...
hole 4 280
hole 5 495
hole 6 295
hole 7 188
hole 8 405
hole 9 315
hole 10 175
hole 11 265
hole 12 195
hole 13 250
hole 14 520
hole 15 280
hole 16 180
hole 17 230
hole 18 390
In the past i think fox run was considered an easy birdie course, but you can clearly see by the distances that this isnt the case... We were able to use the road that runs through this property as tee boxes on 7 of the holes!

Hole 12 thats right hole 12
Hole 14 Regular ob's
Hole 17, Hole 18 Long and Hole 1 , if needed for extended play. To play extended holes you must equal best score for previous hole. Divisions are as follows: Open; Adv; and Int. plan to play 2 rounds in Ingleside. Players meeting by pond at 8:30 am. First round will be on the Gold course with tee time of 9:00am. Lunch break at 1:00 pm with second round on the Red course tee time 2:30 pm.

Only if a player has taken cash. If a player hasn't taken cash they can't be forced into Open. Jim looks like he's placed in the open division but didn't take cash. Seth doesn't look like he's event played open so he's never taken cash.

I love Tx but thats our main problem from not being a Nationally Ranked Tourny Stop Is that we cant all communicate. State too big and too many TD's dont or wont talk to each other. With some TD's not even talking to state Rep, wow way to go TD's. If Texas could ever learn "Communication" as a TEAM our state would host Premier Events....
Sorry for whining,.....Im just Sayin..

I think the problem is that we shouldn't consider Texas as a whole state. I know I probably will never go to a tournament in the DFW area. Not because I don't want to, but because it is way too long of a commute for me. With the amount of tournaments hosted in Texas, I could probably play 2 events a month and never have to go north of Austin. I think the same could be said for the north Texas players...not too many of them make it to our events in Corpus Christi. Split the state in two.
krazyeye
Feb 18 2010, 01:05 AM
Seriously the drives from here to Louisiana, New Mexico, or Oklahoma are stupid long. We can more easily leave the country than visit another state. At least the extreme north and south should be seperated.
John Keith
Feb 18 2010, 03:06 AM
yes and No, I was a travleing Open player in Texas, and I didnt stay home to play a c tier, I would much rather drive 8 hrs to play a big B tier or an A. And there are players who do that. My point is If we (Texas) can learn to coordinate: Austin, Houston and DFW we could host Super Tour In State Quality Tournys....But every individual area likes their small thing and doesnt want to share (pride) on some issues. I know for a fact that Dynamic Disc and Jeremy would work with Austin and Houston guys to host big quality events and swap Cities / Regions to allow differnt TD's the Opp's. Im not saying its gonna happen, But it could and could be a great thing for Disc Golf and Texas. Imagine the purse we could have at a States tourny that actually was contributed to by all Td's in the state??? could, should , would be amazing.
John Keith
Feb 18 2010, 03:09 AM
disc golf will get this big I envision, the Question is are we (texas) going to be a pioneering state that leads the way for huge and successful tournys or just sit back and wait for other smaller, more passionate states teach us what we should be doing with ALL of our Resources???, Texas could be the Meca, but were to divided. Evryone, gives excuse cause of our size. I think its our advantage, but there is not enough golfers / TD's with similar vision. So here we stand, good / average Regional Tournys....
John Keith
Feb 18 2010, 03:13 AM
ok so split state and have southern and northern regions and coordinate based on region, Cool. Austin / Houston / Beaumont / Corpus
then DFW / Amarillo / Tyler / Whichita:
That could be some great regions and lots of cash flow to support nice NT and quality A tier tournys.
Southern Tx Staes then Have Northern Tx States.
But, people have to coordinate?
I seem to always meet 1 or 2 Td's that like idea and would support, then 2-4 TD's that only care about SELF.

Sue can you go to the LSDGA website and get anything useful from it? The point is made and is appropriate concerning the link posted by Cware. If people are going to accept a position they should apply themselves to the tasks needed. I'd say it has been pointed out that TDs do not do what Gary needs and it appears if the LSDGA schedule is maintained by him he is not doing his part either. I would point you to a better example of a disc golf club or org website that is maintained in a timely manner but I do not know of one off the top of my head.

I will be at the park at noon on Friday, and around all afternoon and evening (Except while playing doubles) to check people in and take payments. I should be at the picnic tables closest to #1's basket unless there are people there. My name is Chris, just look for the tall skinny guy missing putts.

I know everyone probably heard about Ron Engebretson getting his basket stolen from the Fox Bend course. Many of us are not surprised that something like this could happen right under our noses. A few of the shady people cruising through that park are..well..shady.
To their surprise the basket they decided to steel(or throw in the river) was one of the local disc golfers who helped put Fox Run together. He not only helped design the layout, he shoveled a trench to drain water on one hole and other back breaking work.
There is no way this story was going to end badly. Mike and crew came across a generous individual who sold them a basket just like the one that was stolen. Not only was it sold at a very generous price, Mike was able to take a collection from the rest of the players at the VicOpen. And yes it took less than 2 minutes to collect the necessary funds needed to pay for this symbolic gesture.
Ron wanted me to tell everyone how appreciative he was and that he never expected any kind of return after his basket was stolen. To me the whole situation now carries 100times more positive than negative.
Thanks again everyone for a great tourney!

WOW!!!
What a weekend, scores are coming soon. we know, scores for saturday are not correct, not the ratings anyway. We put 18 holes when it was 21 and vice versa...
Mike Olse comes back not only to win open by four strokes but to take all of the $500 skins money...
Jay Reading, who played with a broken toe and just stood at the end of the box and threw, won masters, but Ken Shepherd played very well to get second. Jay was also only a couple of strokes off the the third open playoff skins spot!!!
Going to skins was Olse, Brad williams and Matt Hall. Winning advanced and posting the best amateur score was Jim Kelly, who beat a very tough field...
The last particpant in the skins, which was the very first prize in the raffle was thrid coast very own, Able Castanada!!!
Mike won $250 on the fourth playoff hole, regular 6. Able and Jim represented well throughout the match. On the 9th playoff hole, Olse and Able were the only ones with the push score, a 3 on regular 14. Overtime went for the two to hole 17 and pushed..Hole 18 long was next and Mike got an easy 3, but Able hit a tree on his drive and got a 4, so Mike got the last $250!!! We saw lots of impressive shots by each participant and all three pros were ripping some serious plastic.
Des wins womens and Emily L, places 2nd...Neal Dambra squeeked out over Jerry Perez...Jim Kelly wins Adv, Seth Johnson 4th. Locals Ryan Despain and Wallace hall are near the top. Neal Martinez did very well... Danielle Piper wins adv women, not sure on the rest....scores are coming soon...Ron Engebretson wins Adv Master..
there were four aces over the weekend, two from each pool, each receiving live $175 each!!!
Basket on the temporary course was stolen on saturday durning lunch, what we were using as hole 18, that belonged to Local, ron Engebretson... during the skins match we announced that Toby from Lonestar Lumber had an extra Innova Sport basket , new that he had brought in case we needed it for the course, we agreed on a very good price and ...well, within 5 minutes of working the crowd, Joel Santrock came to me and said we already have enough, and then some. So Ron went home with a basket and we even had an extra 40 or so to throw into raffle money which by the way we are using raffle money and silent auction money to be used as follows:
$380-TEXAS WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP- $200 towards added cash for pro divisions and $180 to go towards girly station and entry fees for club players.
$380- EDGE program!
$380-Riverside Disc Golf (which they turned around and gave thrid coast back $200 because they felt we deserved it)
Great turnout, but next year will be better!!! A tier baby!!!

other interesting note, Eric Hampy plays in his first pro tournament, earns $70 in cash and doesnt accept...
It was also great seen Bruce Talamantes not only playing but cashing....
Thanks to all third coasters, Terri, Shannon and Rob Hand helping with payout and missing the skins...Ken, Bill, C4, Brett, Albert and Joel, you all performed above expectations.
All of riverside club, especially Ryan Despain and Wallace Hall, you too Ron E.!!!
All the women, WOW!!

According to the posted scores (http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9943&year=2009&include_ratings=0#Advanced%20Masters) there were four Am players who threw equal or better scores than Jim. Posted on the message board was plainly specified that "top Am score gets a spot", IIRC correctly at the players meeting it was also specified that "top Am score got a spot".
I understand that A-pool and B-pool played different layouts. But if the intent was to always exclude the entire B-pool from contending for that "Am spot" I think that should have been clearly spelled out:
"Top MA1 score gets a spot."
"B-Pool players are only eligible for skins via raffle drawing."

I would say that relation to par would have applied. No one in B pool can compare to Jim Kelly's score of -8. Your arguement is a stretch at best. I would comtend it was an oversite with no intent to exclude B Pool. Fortunately no scored low enough for a valid argument.

Just looking for a little truth in advertising to set player expectations. If you want to make it relative to par then say that up front.

So you think your 172 matches Jim Kelly's 172? That is delusional. Two rounds on Fox Bend versus two rounds on Riverside can't even compare the two. 36 holes versus 42 holes. Come on. It was an oversight. Nothing more.

As I said in my first post, I understand that the pools played different layouts. But it's not a difference of six holes as you allude. A-pool played 60 holes, B-pool played 57. Yes, 21 Riverside holes played Sunday were different from the 18 Fox Bend holes.
So you think your 172 matches Jim Kelly's 172? That is delusional.
Nope. Never said that, and don't think that. Jim played tougher holes, Jim threw better rated rounds.
What I was simply and matter-of-factly pointing out was that the entry format into the skins that was advertised was not what was delivered. Take that feedback and do what you want with it.

I did mention the fourth slot would go to the winner of advanced during the players meeting.
Next time you have an issue, you should address us in person. This waiting til monday from the confines of your computer isnt very fair. You are correct it is my fault, I should have mentioned more often, I guess.
