I've heard nothing but great things about this event and have always wanted to attend but I'm not sure about the extra $50 if you don't pre-register 3 weeks early. Is the a course/property owner requirement or something else?

I would imagine it has to do with the Golf course knowing how many people/carts/food they have to plan for, but I'm sure Kirk can better explain.
Knowing Kirk - It may even be partly be a "you aggravate the TD by waiting to register" penalty :)

Your best bet is to not worry about it and mail in your money. I sent my check yesterday. I might as well make it into a family vacation. What's the name of the hotel that has the indoor water park?

Jay,
I am working on getting onsite lodging for us. So, hold off on making your reservations.
As for the $50 penalty for late registration that is because we have to know in advance how many carts we are going to need. If the event fills Tupelo Bay will have to arrange for additional carts.
As I said in my first post, if you have any questions email me or call me. I am going to try to check the message board fairly often. However, if you want an accurate and timely answer email me or call me.
Keith, I love your aggravate the TD quote....lol

thanks Captain, I knew there had to be a good reason behind it. My 3 small kids and a weekend rental business never allow me to plan ahead. However, Travis has been putting the pressure on me to get down there and see the course.

I got a place to stay that weekend Captin and am sending a check this week for entry. Thanks for making the move to the summer time, so my girl can get her tan on! She looks forward to drinking everyone under the table.

FYI, if you go to the schedule/events for Tupelo, the site link isn't right. It should be
http://www.raleighdiscgolf.com/paypal/tupelo2010.html
it's missing the 20 in the link. I emailed the PDGA about it also.

If you plan on playing Tupelo this year you must be signed up by the last day of this month. If we do not have enough people signed up by the end of the day on April 30th the tournament will be canceled.
Because we will need to plan for golf carts there will be no registrations taken after April 30th.
We will have the pre-reg list posted this week.

So how many is 'enough', Kirk? I'm 50/50 right now, myself.

Seems like we need 72 people. Don't think it's even close. We need to get those registrations in!

I want to play this tournament, but I can't find a roomie to split costs with. Is there anyone out there that can throw a brother a bone. I don't mind sleeping on the floor. Unless you're at The Viking, I refuse to sleep on that floor. I'll go ahead and send my entry just in case I do find some traveling partners.

The attendance has always been around 61 to 64 people, so I think requiring 72 may be aiming a little high. Hopefully, Kirk only needs 50 or so.

Jayski, do you want to split a hotel? I think Aaron and Sarah planned on coming. Maybe the four of us can find something to split.

Hotel? They have hotels at the beach? I've never stayed at one...I wonder why that is????
Jaylips, if I can get my schedule worked out, and can get down there, we won't have to worry about a hotel.

In an effort to show the management at Tupelo that we can exceed the registration numbers we get in December we will need at least 72 players registered for the event before midnight on 4/30.
If, on the morning of 5/1, there are not at least 72 players registered the event will be canceled.
Right now there are less than 20 people registered for the event.
There are only 10 days left to register.
If you have any questions please give me a call or drop me an email.

I wonder if some people are waiting to hear if there is going to be a package set up for lodging. Kirk hinted that something was in the works, so I wonder if some people are waiting to hear what it is.

Mike will get the registered list posted. However, since there are less than 20 players registered I doubt those that have registered will light anyone's fire.
If the event is canceled I will be keeping all of the money....lmao Just kidding!!!
I will give you the option of a refund minus the PayPal fee or if Tupelo allows us to have the event in December you can choose to be preregistered for it.

So we need 58 player's to sign up by Friday? I guess I'll not sign up and save the $5. I hate to see one of my favorite tournaments go, but it looks like it will be. Sorry Captain.

Jay,
I have checked with Mike. If you sign up via PayPal this close to the cut off we can make sure you get your entire amount back (including the PayPal fee).
If anyone does not get their PayPal fee back I will give it to you out of my own pocket.
Anyone else reading this please consider signing up for the event. I really don't want to cancel it.

Only joking about the $5 Kirk. Fact is, I don't know that I'll be able to make the tournament period. I was informed yesterday that there's a very big chance that my company is going bankrupt and I may be jobless in the not to distant future. I may still sign up, just in case things get better.

up to 21...I will be in Myrtle Beach this weekend regardless and really hope everyone signs up today.
Please update us on the status of the event, as soon as you make the call.
Thanks!

The May event is definitely off the schedule as of 5/1/10.
I will be speaking with the management of the facility tomorrow to determine if we can or will be allowed to host the December event.
Once we determine if December is going to happen, those of you that pre-registered for May can have the option to automatically be registered or we can refund your entry fee.

Kirk,
Is there a reason as to why they may not allow us to hold the event in December? I always thought we were a welcome sight in the off-season when they otherwise wouldn't be generating much revenue.
Captain
May 06 2010, 09:09 AM
Because they really wanted to move the event to the spring. The management at Tupelo Bay were the ones that requested we have the event in May.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that if the weather is nice in December they run the risk of losing business the weekend that we are there.
Right now I am trying to put together a plan that would cut the entry fee in half. If it works the entry fee will be $50. All of that will go to cover the cost of carts and greens fees. Payout will be made up through sponsorship.

Everyone needs to start spreading the word about the tournament. I'm sure Kirk has pulled some strings in order for Tupelo Bay Open to still exist, so we need to do our part to make sure it's successful

I suggest starting a new thread---the dates in this subject line won't draw a lot of folks to a December tournament.
