Plans are to have a "Work Day/Play Day" on Sunday, January 17th.

We will work a couple of hours and then set out temporary baskets on the new holes and then play 'em.

This will give everyone a chance to lend a hand and also play the holes before the baskets are permanently placed.

Still working out the details...I will post more soon.

Someone just pointed out to me that the 17th is the morning after the Nightmare at Nani.

Lets get some feedback on this, whether or not this is a problem.

The Nightmare is scheduled to be over by 10:00 PM. That won't be a problem for me to get there to work but I can't speak for others :)

Work and Play day is on!

Next Sunday 1/17 8:30 Meet at hole at the #11 (D-hole) tee box. Please leave vehicles in parking area and walk. Bring gloves, pruners, your discs, and your own refreshments.

Breakfast tacos will be available while they last starting at 8:30.

Work will begin post-taco and work until about 10:30-11:00. Then we'll see how they play.

Also we have 2 baskets so far, need 5 more. We can load one vehicle with all the baskets and drive them to the back. There just isnt room for 20 vehicles back there.

Brian I know I can load up to 4 baskets in the back of my truck if needed...

Basket total:

Jimbob & Baby = 2
Jerry L. = 1
Bird & Stacey = 1

If you are bringing a basket please add your name to this list...

Thank you

Thanks, Jerry. That will make 3 of the 6 or 7 we will need.

Yesterday we decided to meet at hole 4 for tacos instead of in the back at 8:30. That will work better, and help us organize before heading back there.

The forecast is calling for rain later this week. The bobcat will not be very effective in mud, so we will be watching the weather and making the call mid-week. If we get heavy rain, we will reschedule.

I will send text messages and post here once we get a better idea weather-wise.

Also, I have 2 cloth style basket that are easy to trasport back there. Let me know if you need them.

With due respect to CWare, the forecast is

Tonight...Rain 40%
Thursday...Rain 60%
Thurs Night...Heavy Rain, Storms 100%
Friday...Heavy Rain, Storms 100%
Friday Night...Heavy Rain, Storms 70%
Saturday...Rain ending 30%
Sat Night...Partly Cloudy low 40

We are going to postpone the workday, and the tacos.

The key is to have a good turnout, one and two, to have the equipment fully functional. The bobcat is a key piece and it does not do well in mud. I would rather wait and get ALL of the job done at once, rather than having to do part of it this Sunday and still have to do another work day later on.

We will PLAY the MINI, however, because:

Sunday...Mostly Sunny, hi 63

So it should be perfect for playing, and we'll shoot for next week.

(Added bonus: Cowboys play at noon!)

The work day/play day is ON for this Sunday the 24th.

Tacos at hole 4 at 8:30

A big turnout will make it go pretty fast, so come on out and play the new holes for the first time.

We will need 7 portable baskets.

Thanks to everyone who came out for the work day:

Jeff M, Jerry L, Stu, Marsha, Dusty, Larry, Shawn, David V, Tracy, John A, Mike H, Corey, Nick O, Pete, Doobie, and Robert G.

That list is from memory, and I hope I did not forget anyone.

Then there was the bobcat, which did the work of about 25 people. That thing is amazing.

We did some major cutting and clearing on every hole. Brush piles were created for the city to mulch. We worked until about 10:45 or 11:00.

Then we played 24 holes. Playing the new holes was really helpful because you can really get a better idea of where improvements can be made. Some will require some more planning and more clearing. The end result will be much better, so it will be worth the extra trouble. Overall I'd say the clearing is about 85% complete.

One more work day and we should be ready to get the UC Parks guys back there getting ready to move tee boxes and baskets.

The general consensus was the new holes are challenging and the terrain is interesting. UC is going to play a lot tougher.

After the Ice Bowl, we will plan another workday.

One last cleanup at Universal City:

Next Sunday, March 7th (barring nasty weather), we need about an hour of work before the mini to fine tune a couple of holes in the back. After this we can turn the parks boys loose.

Come help and play afterward. I dont think we should mess with playing the back holes this time because the holes arent changing all that much and its just too much trouble to get baskets back there.

Tacos again at 8:30 Meet at hole 5.

Just got a call back, they have it scheduled for Tuesday to move teepads.

Which will free us up to plant the sleeves for the Mach V's. We'll need 4 holes and concrete, 2 bags or so per hole--I defer to John Arick about quantity.

So there are 3 of them, and I bought 4 sleeves so one hole can have two basket positions. I'm thinking the first new hole is the one it should be.
One long and left, where we played it before, and one shorter and more to the middle-right side.

Nice work guys ... I think this is really gonna make the course better!

I agree with the multiple pin on the first hole and about the second location being a right turning shot. There are so many left turning shots at UC that another right turning shot is a good addition.

My only problem with this whole thing is that all the holes that are being moved are the ones I birdie. Where am I gonna get my birdie's now? :D

Update:

I forgot that one of the Mach V's does not move, that's the one on 14. So that means we have only 2 to move, and we have 4 sleeves, so 2 of the new holes can have 2 pin positions. (This is the way I planned it all along).

So the first new hole is a good candidate.

I think the other one should be the last new hole. That's the one with an elevated tee box off the hill (after the uphill shot). One basket up on the berm for a straight shot, and the other one longer and to the left, further down the berm toward the creek (across from 11's existing basket).

We are going to try for a work day this Sunday, depending on weather. If you are not going to COTO, come out and have a taco and give us a hand.

We will be digging holes for baskets. We will need:

Shovels (sharpshooters are handy)
Post hole diggers
wheelbarrows
5 gallon buckets for hauling water

Meet at hole 5 at 8:00

Watch here for updates, and I will send out text messages to as many as I can.

Sunday is the work day, at least that's the plan.

Looks like most of the rain will be today. We will make the call tomorrow mid day and post here as well as sending text messages.

If the ground's wet, that's ok, it will be good weather for pouring concrete. Also the old baskets will be easier to pull, so we might go ahead and try one to see how it goes.

If someone has a sledge hammer, we might need it to break up the concrete around the old baskets.

Now we are into cleanup mode so bring weed eaters, clippers, hand saws, machetes, etc.

Great job by Shawn, Tracy, Larry, and Nick moving and installing 7 baskets. They just decided to knock it out today. Amazing.

Sorry for the late notice on this change, but come on out and we'll work for an hour or so and then play the new layout. There will need to be some tweaking, it isnt perfect yet.
