What's the snow cover like up there right now, guys? Ben and I are visiting relatives down in the tri-state area (Midland, Chester, E. Liverpool) and are thinking of doing Moraine in the morning, but I didn't bring deep snow gear.

Hey Terry,
I'm about an hour directly east of moraine and for the most part the snow is gone. The Moraine area usually gets a little more snow but not by much. The higher temps and rain the past two days have melted most.

I was out at Moraine yesterday and almost all of the snow was gone. There was some shallow snow in the wooded areas. Nothing to be concerned with. However it is starting to snow right now. I heard we are supposed to get a few inches tommorow. Factor the forcasted 18 mph winds and it should be an interesting day on the lake. The question is... Do you trust the weatherman?

I got a report today from a local disc golfer who said "there are hunters set up on and around Moraines course. Today there was a blind set up on 6s fairway with hunters inside."
I emailed the Park Operations Manager with the information. Hunting is not permitted on the Lakeview Beach side of North Shore Drive and is posted as such. I will follow up in hope that Park Rangers will investigate.

I heard that the park opened up hunting for the flintlock season. Not sure, but when I was there Saturday 12/26 the gate down to the beach was open and cars were parked down there(many not disc golfers). There was much shooting, but I thought it was coming from further away. May want to get confirmation and wear some orange out there.

From Dan Bickel, Moraine State park Manager:
"The North Shore drive to the lake is open to a special late archery hunt only from December 26th - January 9th, including the disc golf course. The hunt was publicized extensivley on our website and various media outlets With this said, hunters should not be setting up blinds that interfere with play on the course. I will forward this note along to my ranger staff and have them check the course. With the growing deer population it was important we open this area to protect the park's resources. I will have Rick check to make sure signage is in place at hole 1 listed the area as open for this limited season"
