Martinez brothers "Spanka'd-dat-***" last year...Planning on a repeat! Stoney is looking great and that pond is Massive now!!! After the recent 2-6" of rain it will be interesting to see how it looks tomorrow a.m. when I get into the deer stand for the first a.m. hunt of the year...That pond will DEFINITELY strike fear in some for this years tournament...Not much room for error and good luck getting a disc back. You sure won't be able to see it and the 45 degree water will be mind chilling.

As with our previous Sunday-only tournaments, folks will be welcome to come practice the course on Saturday. We'll be around, though probably doing some last-minute course work.
Camping in late December is at your own discretion.

That is why we invented the Zero degree bag. It beats leaving before the crack of dawn in Chucktown. I am going to try and get there.

Sleeping in a zero-degree bag isn't nearly as perilous as departing it.
Hope you can make it.

There's a good chance we'll be unveiling 2 more new holes (3 total), and playing a 20-hole layout. We're still fidgeting with how to expand the course around the pond and work out routing issues for the eventual permanent configuration. These new holes are in our "birdieable" tradition---short, you can get a 2 if you execute, but more often you'll be kicking yourself for missing it....or kicking yourself even harder for bogeying.

I think that's what it's called. There are 2 courses in the park (Not Barnett). It's $2 to play (per vehicle) to get in park. Supposed to be challenging with water and a lot of wind.

That's it....I didn't know there was a tournament there. Nice place to play, lots of fun, fairly challenging. Water's only in play on a few holes.
NOW, back to Stoney Hill!

There is a new hole 16, which is played after the peninsula hole. It will loop over to #17 "Oak Tree" which is now the shot over the pond. This hole has been shortened from 295 to 280 but still scary as ever. Hole 17a "Beaver's Revenge" will involve throwing over water with a slight right to left turn towards the back of the pond (opposite side of Dam) Probably plays 290 but the final pin placement has yet to be determined. Water will be on the right of the pin so don't turn it over too much. Hole 17 B. plays roughly 265, level and straight with the basket sitting on the hill near David's house. Basically where the #17 basket was during the Stoney Hill Challenge, but throwing from the opposite direction. From there, it's a short walk to #18, where you finish or "are finished" by throwing over the quarry to a basket perched upon a little tiny, innocent looking hill.

f.y.i....don't think u can just *lay* up here and tap it in...much easier said than done, not to mention u have to have about a 350 ft drive in a good position to have a chance at the hill on your 2nd shot with much more bad things than good things that can come out of it. Hope ya'll are having fun cleaning and playing today...GLAD I'm not there...It's cold as hell and nasty/wet outside.

David, do you think there will be an opportunity to pick up a partner on the day of the tourney?
davidsauls
Dec 21 2009, 08:28 AM
Yes.....we invite the partnerless to show up and we'll play matchmakers.
The worst case scenario is that we have singles left in different divisions, and someone has to play up in a higher division to make teams. But it's a lost-cost, low-stakes event, so no harm done. I'll be available to play or not play, if necessary, to make sure whoever shows up gets to play.

David and I will not have partners so we will both be available to help make a team with for players who show up without partners. We can play either pro or am depending on the need.
Mike,
Hole 18 is only is only 492 so you only need a 275 drive to put yourself in a good position for a 3. (375' will put you in the trees) It'a all about execution from there.
Our last 4 finishing holes include 3 holes around the pond where you can lose a disc with a poor shot, then finishing on 18. I put one in the pond on hole "a" and then again on hole "b" . Fortunatly, it landed upside down and floated across the pond where I picked it up the next morning.

Forecast is looking pretty good---sunny & cool, high around 50. Probably a little wet in spots with rain 2 days earlier, but the hilly course drains pretty well and the biggest problems are walking from 1 basket to 2 tee, and the first 100 feet walking off 2 tee.
If you don't have a partner, don't let the threat that Chris will team you with me keep you away. You've still got a chance to be teamed with someone better who also arrived solo.

Unless tee has moved I thought it was 400 ft to reach tree line...I think due to having to curve your disc well right you'd be looking at ATLEAST 325 to get it to where you don't have trees in your way unless you throw it down hill to left. I've crushed it a good 400+ before and just went threw tree line and landed on other side right before quarry. I would never say being 220 ft out no matter how good the lie leaves you in *good* position for a 3...Anymore than 120 is bad position and you'll get a 3 I would say 1 out of ever 10-15 throws from there. We'll have to get together in the morning so you can show me how you can 3 it from 217 out :)

So, who won?
davidsauls
Dec 28 2009, 02:08 PM
Mike Johansen & David Wheeler won Pro division.
Strangely enough, I don't remember who won Advanced and Intermediate. Or, to be more accurate, I remember but am not sure I remember correctly. I think Paul & Mike Martinez won Advanced; perhaps Bobby Ellisor and Danny Marks in Intermediate? As soon as I sort out the debris which is my house, I'll post full results.
The weather was terrific---perhaps the nicest day we've had in a miserable month. We had ample winds, too, to keep the pond holes interesting. Unfortunately, the record rainfall on Christmas left the course muddy in a few places, and some of the teepads slick. (We permitted people to tee off beside or behind the actual teepads, where necessary).
Format was best-shot doubles first round, combined singles scores in second round. The best scores shot were 60 (four players), on the 20-hole, "par 64" layout.
Attendance was 46 players---far exceeding our expectations for a holiday-week, Sunday-only event.
Thanks to everyone who came out to play in our yard; hope a great time was had by all.

Paul and I won Advanced. Not sure about intermediate. Don't remember. We're now the 2 time, 2 time Advanced champs with no intentions on advancing to pro. Going to have to beat us fair and square on our own turf...Hell our combined rating is like 925... Scott Wallace and Coleman Thompson caught 3 of the 4 needed to tie us in the 2nd round singles score. Was great playing with those 2. Thought Paul was going to blow up and stack a 80+ on me but 2 good 30+ ft putts later, he was back and ready to finish! Great tournament, Cold and Windy but sunny all day. Woke up this a.m. with very chapped hands and lips.
