Dear Members,
We expect to see the sport skyrocket in the years ahead and want to gain the world's attention by showing just how much disc golf is spreading. WE know this is true, but we need to grab the interest of others who will help push this sport to the next level - the media and corporate sponsors. Nothing impresses them more than "proof in numbers". This is where you come in...
We are launching "Chain Reaction", a refer-a-friend program, as our membership drive. For details and the video ad click here (http://www.pdga.com/refer-a-friend).
Please help us spread the word about this new program.

Plain and simple... are you a "Link"?

Good idea, great name.
How will this work out in conjunction with the Affiliate Club Program? As our club ACP contact I recruit and sign up many new members - will I get credit?

Thanks, Jebb.
The Affiliate Club is an entirely different program. Affiliate Clubs are referring members on behalf of the club by the club. In return, the club receives, or should receive, $5 back from each membership. Along with this, they receive a course directory for every 10 memberships.
The Refer-a-Friend program is designed to be more of an ambassador type program. Friends telling friends to join the PDGA with no discount in membership involved, but a "thank you" gift for the recruiter. The application must be submitted individually, as mentioned in the "fine print" section of the story, by the NEW member.
We are grateful for our affiliate clubs and hope you have seen positive outcomes with the money donated back locally to your club.
As this is the introduction year to the Chain Reaction program, we welcome suggestions and feedback and will look into making necessary changes/adjustments when/if the need arises.

Thank you for your dedication to the sport and the association.
Peace,
~Addie

We pass the $5 savings directly to the new or renewing member, seems a better incentive.

...which is not the intention of the Affiliate Club program. It was not built as a discount program but rather an outreach program for clubs. I doubt $5 is breaking the bank for anyone and it sure would be nice to see the money go towards course improvements or to help towards prizes for local events, etc. as originally designed.

Our reasoning is for it to be an incentive to join our local club as well by saving some money, so it comes back to the club either way. The vast majority of our club funds (for course improvements, etc) are raised by club memberships.

Right on, Jebb. Kudos to PDGA for the program (and the Refer-a-Friend Program, BTW), but don't let it "suggest" how you use the funds.

Good way to put it, Jebb. Thanks for your work.
The PDGA does have a right to "suggest" how to use the funds since we design the programs. We are looking into even more programs for the future as we have so many ideas and are looking forward to implementing them.
The years ahead will be so exciting!

Sounds like TARP. Troubling.:(

I know it is easy to just post on a discussion board, but feel free to email me directly, Ray, if there is something you do not understand about our programs we designed for our members. I will be most happy to help. I do not know what "TARP" means and the "Troubling" reference must refer to something you are misreading. I will be happy to speak directly to you about your concerns as well. 706-261-6342
Thanks so much!

"TARP" is the US Treasury Department's "Troubled Asset Relief Program", where the government shells out a few shekels to a subset of US banks, then figures they can then tell the recipients how to run their businesses. The insidious things are that not only did the government often threaten a bank with sanctions if it choose not to accept the TARP "gift", but also it is trying to tell banks that refused to accept TARP money how to run their businesses.
The parallels are striking, and troubling. If the PDGA is going to offer a program that gives money back to a club, it does not then have the right to tell the club what to do with that money (unless the terms of the original agreement contained such a stipulation). For a PDGA brass to "suggest" a use (or "suggest" restricting a use) for the funds is like the mugger "suggesting" you hand over your watch.

...or the memberships manager "suggesting" you contact her directly. Oh dear, how "TARP" of me. You are too funny, Ray!
I, personally, do not see the connection between the two; which is backed by the addition of: "Good way to put it, Jebb. Thanks for your work."
It's a shame one finds it necessary to try and twist something positive to reflect it as negative.
Let's agree to disagree and move on.

I agree to disagree. But, of course, I do not agree to be condescended to with such gems as:
It's a shame one finds it necessary to try and twist something positive to reflect it as negative.

You are too funny, Ray!
Either you are BG posting under an alias, or you've been taking classes from his renowned Communication & Public Relations School. Either way, quite unseemly for a PDGA employee to relate to a member in that belittling tone.

It sounds to me that like she was responding in kind. She should resist the temptation to do so while posting on an official account.
However, Ray does have a point. There is no mention of how the discount is meant to be disbursed in the available ACP documents.
- The club contact will receive a form for ACP discounted PDGA memberships. The club will be allowed to discount $5 for each ACP handled PDGA membership.
On first read, it seems passing the discount to the member is what the PDGA intends.

I've had veganray on Ignore for quite some time now and choose not to read what he posts, and judging by the reactions from others on this thread, that's probably a good thing.
Again, it continues to boggle the mind why someone who seeks to put down all things PDGA continues to renew.

Addie & I have kissed & made up off-line. A little too much tongue for my taste, but quite nice.
Sorry to deprive y'all gawkers of additional drama.
