This event has been listed on LSDGA.com for months, on titledisc.com for a little while, and now it's on the PDGA tour schedule. It's about time we had a thread :)

The Alex Clark Memorial is on! TitleDISC is proud to present this tournament again this year.

This will be a PDGA C-tier event again this year, and we've lowered entry fees a little bit to make it even more affordable. This is a charity event, with $5 from each division going straight to the Clark Family. We will also have a "tip jar" for anyone who wants to add a bit more to the pile :). The Clark Family will then donate that money to a charity of their choice. Last year we wrote them a check for $548! Your entry fee also includes a lunch provided by the City of McKinney.

We will play two rounds of 21 at Alex Clark Memorial Disc Golf course. Pros and Amateurs will play a mixture of Championship tees and Long tees the first round, with a mixture of Long and a few Short holes the second round. Intermediate and Rec will play Longs the first round and Shorts the second.

We're going to try something new with payout this year. We most likely won't have tournament-stamped discs (for lots of reasons, the biggest being recent problems with Innova's stamps) but I am working on getting some other stuff together with the tournament logo on it. We will have t-shirts and possibly minis... maybe even some putters :). I have had to delay many pieces of this event until now, trying to sort some things out... but I feel very strongly that it should honor Alex's memory by being the best event it can be. I won't accept sub-standard items for payout. Rest assured that we *will* have cool stuff :)

The coolest new thing we're going to do with payout this year is a free "bonus" entry to the winner of each Amateur division. If the player is willing to move up to the next highest division and play the following day at the Discing for a Cure event @ Towne Lake, TitleDISC will *sponsor* that player's entry to Sunday's event! This does not affect payout, it is just a donation from us to these great events.

Last year this tournament filled early. Come on out and join us on Saturday, Nov. 14th!

A quick thanks to Lawrence Nance and Onion Field Disc Golf for sponsoring this year's event. Lawrence gave me some cool merch to add to the loot!

It's looking like great weather for this little charity tournament!

We *will* have tournament-stamped discs again this year, thanks to Gateway Disc Sports. We did not have any t-shirt sponsors, so no t-shirts this year... but we will still have plenty of fun! C'mon out and show your support for the Clark family by honoring their son Alex's memory. Remember - winners of Rec, Int, and Adv. will all have the opportunity to move up and play as a TitleDISC sponsored player at Towne Lake on Sunday!

But of course, Ray. This weekend is all about the charities and both are certainly worthy.

Another announcement for the Alex Clark Memorial: We do not officially have player packs since it's a Charity C-tier event, but all players who sign up by the end of the day tomorrow (Thursday, 11/12/09 at 23:59:59) will receive a *free* tournament disc! Pre-registration has been a bit light, so hopefully this will encourage more of you to get on the list. Too many players wait to sign up until they see who else is signed up... which is a catch 22 situation and it hurts the event. Let's open up those registration floodgates!

I assume from previous posts that this free disc will be a Gateway stamped disc. Am I correct?

You are correct. We will have 3 different molds of Gateway putters, each in 3 plastics (S, SS, and SSS) all with the cool 2009 ACM stamp and all available as part of this promotion.

Just got off the phone with Shaine, and it looks like his church is coming up big with a donation of $100 towards this event! This donation will help me meet the goals I set for the donation ot the Clark family for this year... so it means I just might have a bit of money to add to the Pro pot!

Here's the deal - if we get at least 10 Pro players (all divisions included), I will add $100 to the pro divisions. This is a charity C-tier, so added cash is pretty much unheard of... but Shaine is helping us make it possible for you guys!

one more push for pre-registration... reminder - if you're signed up by midnight tonight, you will get a free tournament disc! If you absolutely must sign up at the last minute, we will be taking registration at the course until 8:00am sharp on Saturday. Don't be late!

Josh, are you going to be running doubles tomorrow?

I didn't officially set up a doubles event since I wasn't sure I could get the time off from work to be there... but I will be at the park tomorrow afternoon doing some clean-up and other prep if anyone wants to come play a round and/or sign up for singles in person.

Oh, and BTW - I will have some cool non-Titledisc stamps in the mix this weekend. The Twisted One sent some Twisted Tour goodies down my way... Pro Bosses, Glow Wraiths, and some star-stamp first-run star Makos. I'm also picking up some cool tournament discs from other TDs, so be sure to check those out!

Scores!

62 players came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and help support a worthy charity! With the help of the $100 donation from Dunn Memorial Baptist Church and $62.05 in Alex's "tip jar", we will be able to give the Clark Family $472.05 this year! Brett Knowles takes the entire $285 ace pot by hitting #18 short. He was nice enough to put $5 of that money into Alex's Tip jar :)

Also, I gotta say something about JD's final round... it was nasty. 18 birdies, 3 pars (including the one par 4). Nobody doubted that JD had it in him... but... wow. great play from a world-class Pro that we're happy to have on Team TitleDISC.

Hope to see lots of you tomorrow for the Discing for a Cure event at Towne Lake!
