i was under the impression that charlotte, raleigh, and the virginia open are in a rotation at this point. raleigh was 2009, which one was 2008?

How does an Am qualify? I saw Blaine and Wiggins playing.I know Blaine was the AM National Champ. I'll be playin OPEN in the SoCal series next yr(1st season as OPEN), but in the bigger events I'd play ADV AM.

It's harder to qualify on the West Coast because the qualifiers are earlier in the year when fewer people have already qualified. They take the top X scores that haven't qualified yet, so if you play one later in the season you don't have to finish as high. Qualifying at the Memorial is the toughest because only the automatic guys are in at that point. (Past World Champs, last year's top money earners, last year's top points, etc.)
The best way to get in is to TD or Co-TD a qualifier. :D

Ok, hope that is true...Then at least we'll have a qualifier right in our backyard once every few years...Don't know what was 2008...hopefully it was charlotte so the VO can get it next year in 2010.
I've already got the bug to go back and play and it's only been 1 day.

someone asked about Wiggins ... he got the state spot for NC (based on a points series of him shooting well at a LOT of events all over the state). Our state series is open to anyone from any state (some are only for the residents of that state)
and biscoe... i dont know the answer to that but I believe all NTs are automatic qualifiers... since we'll have an NT i'm sure we'll be getting spots. Maybe they'll still give some spots to your tourney?

I understand that, in the qualifying tournaments, the top 5 scores among players who have not previously qualified, get the invites. So if an Am's score beats all but 4 Pros, assuming they play the same layout, he gets the invite. Since it's among those who haven't yet qualified, later in the year you might just need a top-15 finish. And keep in mind that some Ams have been playing Pro, while declining cash to keep their Am status until after Worlds.
Also, in addition to tournament qualifiers, each state gets one representative, selection of whom is different for each state (determined by the State Coordinator). If you see a suprising name at the USDGC, this might be the answer.
I think.

excuse me there are plenty of Texas players. the problem is our size and communication. we are too big and cant communicate. houston, austin and dallas cant all coordinate together and throw qualifying tournys together. i think we have the assests and players to be one of the best discgolf tourny states, i think we can handle and provide an incredible NT event. but everybody is too prideful and we only help out if its Their name on the title......and ive asked guys in houston, dallas and tyler Vinnie

yes but living in such a big state, Texas we should not have to rely on Monday to qualify. we should have a handful of events that we could qualify with
A handful?
I sympathize for you that Texas isn't having an NT event. It wasn't to long ago I was lamenting the lack of qualifiers in the NEFA/MADC areas.

For what it's worth, for 2009 there were 15 regional qualifiers. It's not limited to NTs.
For the Texas/Oklahoma region, the Green Country Open in Tulsa and the Southern National Pro Champs in Little Rock were qualifiers.

Oct 20 2009, 06:16 PM
For folks not from Texas, the term "Texas/Oklahoma region" is kind of suspect. I know no one fron Central Texas, Houston, South Texas or West Texas who considers Tulsa or Little Rock "in their region." More like 6-12 hours away. Someone from the Midwest or East Coast could probably find numerous qualifiers that close.
At any rate, those are not places for a qualifier intended to serve Texas, if a goal such as that even exists.

Oct 20 2009, 06:30 PM
True. I only mentioned it since, in threads on the lack of NT events in the area, Texas/Oklahoma was mentioned together and there was confusion on whether lack of NTs meant lack of opportunity to qualify for the USDGC.
Maybe not equal opportunity, but there's a qualifier within a day's drive for at least much of Texas. Or at least there was this year.

Even though the closest qualifier was 9-10Hrs from the State Capital we did still have 10 representatives at USDGC which I believe was the 3rd most.
It did bum me out that the 1st qualifier I was able to play was Worlds and at that point the TX rep spot had already been given to me which means we should have had one more player attending.

You certainly could've turned down the "freebie" TX spot & taken your chances qualifying at Worlds (or later).

You certainly could've turned down the "freebie" TX spot & taken your chances qualifying at Worlds (or later).
Well it was based on a points system that I had won and did ask our SC if we could hold of until after worlds but that wasn't possible. Also like I said we don't really have any qualifiers nearby so denying the freebie would mean possibly an unnecessary road trip.
I do think it is unfortunate that our state will have 5+ A-tiers this year (3 still to come) and yet there is no regional qualifier within a state that used to be its OWN region (11).

USDGC hasn't released the qualifying events yet. The PDGA has only released the NT schedule, which contains some qualifying events.
I'm sure the midwest and texas will get some qualifying events.

good point, but my point is that such a big state with so many good golfers its sad that we dont have more of an option. very sad. All of texas and we cant do better. Talking to some people this weekend, and one of our largest problems is we are to large. Our state is 3 times the size of other states, so our communication is very hard,. If we could communicate and coordinate between Dallas, Houston, Austin and Tyler we could all bring cash together for a Huge, Huge event. But everybody wants their name on top and we cant communicate together. so were stuck with no NT and no big events...in the largest state in the UNion.......wow way to go Texas.

You asked and you begged and now the Piney Woods Pro Am VI will be the first qualifying event for 2010! This is a great tournament that benefits the Children's Miracle Network. We will have three course played in one park and they are all great courses. See you all December 12-13. Registration is now being taken at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com)
