Don't worry about the temp setup, that course hase WAY more than enough land to put in a stellar 18 holes. Could be the best 18 hole course around.

played at your course while out at first wave today and yesterday. My only concern for your tournament is the leaves. I spent over a half an hour looking for discs buried in 2 ft. of leaves. Is there anyway the parks dept. in Bristow would give that course a once over with a lawnmower to cut down on some of that.

Was walking from 7 to 8 and the leaves turned into 2 ft. of deep cold water. This may be a little discouraging for people who aren't prepared. Other than that get ready for some WIND GOLF, it is a whippin out there !

That is called a creek. you walk around it not through it.

Nov 24 2009, 11:11 PM

dude, I am totally not complaining, If it were me alone out there I could care less. I'd just keep looking till i find it. But when it too me 30 minutes I just started thinking about the tournament. I want nothing but the best for you and your tournament. I feel like i'd be doing you a diservice not to tell you something. If it were me I'd want all the feedback I could get and not take it as ******** or whining. Please understand I have only the best of intentions. And I had to give something up to get free entry, dont worry you may save some money if I shoot like i did the other day and have to play intermediate. :)

I will plan to go out to bristow on Thurs or Friday and I'll throw a rake in the trunk. I played Bristow last fall and had a leaf lost disc problem too. The way that the course is laid out creates a problem on a couple of holes. Most of the holes will not have a leaf issue. I think that golfers would know where the potential trouble spots are, and could clean them up with less effort than city workers. Anyone able to join me?

The Battle of Wake Island began simultaneously with the Attack on Pearl Harbor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Pearl_Harbor) and ended on December 23, 1941, with the surrender of the American forces to the Japanese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_of_Japan).
It was fought on and around the atoll (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atoll) formed by Wake Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_Island) and its islets of Peale and Wilkes Islands by the air, land and naval forces of the Empire of Japan against those of the United States of America, with Marines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps) playing a prominent role on both sides.
The island was held by the Japanese until September 4, 1945, when the remaining Japanese garrison surrendered to a detachment of United States Marines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps).

whoever it was that had the idea for the double pond clear is a frickin genius. that hole is so absolutely cool :D i cleared it easy with power to spare but its a little fear factor, an depending on where the wind is comming from it could be hell. :) love the layout guys, the temp 9 is VERY well done, alot of big shots from the blues, and managable birdies from the whites, i like this especially because it goes along with the theme of the first 9 :) great job guys.

Are we going to be throwing over the lake on any of the temp holes? If so how far will it be? I am wondering if I need to bring some backup water discs and which ones..

skinner
Dec 03 2009, 08:45 AM
From what I saw on Tuesday, temporary holes 9 through 14 will most likely have water in play (6 total).

9 - Over a pond in the fairway (about 250' to clear?)

10 - If the basket placement is close to the lake, then water will come into play. Couldn't find the survey flag for the basket on 10 temp. Blue tee was up by the road, white tee was not found.

11 - Short drive to a basket on a lake penisula from the white tee. The penisula is about 40' wide and 140' long. 10' wide riprap on each side of penisula with a 20' wide grass faiway. Couldn't find the blue tee.

12 - Like Hatton said, a double cross over two little lake inlets, lake to the left of the fairway, road to the right of the fairway.

13 and 14 - Narrow fairways (80' or less) with the lake to the left and road to the right.

9524
Dec 03 2009, 09:01 AM
I would bring water disc. Hole 10 basket is on the rocks down by the lake. hole 11 blue tees off up by the road between the two parking areas. Hope this helps!

skinner
Dec 03 2009, 09:18 AM
Hey John, are some of the white tees from the road (9wh, 10wh and 14w) or all tees on grass ?

Also, that penisula fairway on 11 is probably wider then I guessed. Probably more like 60' wide with 15' (or wider) of riprap on each side...leaving around 30' of width for the grass fairway.

Riprap (not a picture from Bristow):

i believe this bristow course maybe a diamond in the rough, albeit not to rough.
for an inagural running on a new layout the holes played congruent enough i believe the course could handle 18 full cards without many holdups.
John did a great job of laying the alternate holes out.
great shot selection and tough golf while still being fair.
if the wind was less prevelant i wonder what the scores could have been.
i had a great time and will be looking forward to more events in bristow.

Thanks John and Carla. That course put a physical hurt on me and still hurting this morning. Big holes, big shots. Seemed like every drive took all you could give it and then some. I think this course may be the best in the state with the 18 hole layout and the wind. The difference from the blues to whites is night and day. Took a 6 on a blue hole, then a 2 on the white. I even got the pleasure of watching Hicks take a 30ft birdie and turn it into a 6 with no OB.

Congrats to Scotty Wilkenson, two solid rounds, especially that first one from the blues. VERY SOLID!
