TitleDISC is proud to present the Mesquite Open!
This event will follow our popular 1-day-Sunday format, with flex-start BYOP doubles all day on Saturday. Since this is a B-tier event, we will have players packs for all amateurs and at least $500 in added cash for the pro divisions. We already have two sponsors on board, but we are still taking sponsorships or teesigns ($25 each) and the tournament t-shirt ($100 to appear on the back of the shirt). Please contact josh@titledisc.com if you or your club/business would like to be a part of this very popular B-tier!
We will play the same format as we did last year - two rounds of 21 at Paschall Park. Pro and Adv. divisions will play the championship pads in the morning, with Rec and Intermediate playing the longs. Round 2 will have everyone playing from the shorts. After round 2, we will have a long drive competition and a Ring of Fire, so there are plenty of ways to come home with some great stuff!
The City of Mesquite is a big part of this event again for 2009, so come on out and show them how much we appreciate what they do for our sport. Online registration is available at TitleDISC.com and players can sign up in person on Saturday during doubles, if spots are left. We will also be available to take in person registration this weekend during the Mr. Jims Carrollton Open. We filled early last year so get in soon!

We have 8 different molds of Innova plastic ordered with the tournament stamp for this event! All pre-registrations will receive a $5 discount on their entry fees, so it's actually *cheaper* to register online. All ams get a $10 players pack, *plus* a free tournament disc to all players, regardless of classification, who pre-register by the end of this week. That means that if you're an am who registers by midnight Saturday night, you will not only get the $5 discount and the $10 players pack, but *another* free disc on top of it. Even pros will get the discount plus a free disc, as long as they sign up early. Get signed up today! www.titledisc.com

Can't make it Sunday, but I could play Sat doubles.
Anybody need a partner? I can play Pro GM or Advanced (or any division higher).

I hope you get to play, Bill :)
To simplify things, we're going to have 3 divisions for doubles - Pro, Advanced, and Rec. Pros will pay $30/team and win cash money (100% payout of the purse, to the top 30% of teams). Advanced and Rec will pay $20/team and play for some sweet merch. Everyone will play the short pads and anyone can play (and place) as many times as they would like, with the same partner, or with a different one.
Some details about Sunday's long drive competition - every tournament-registered player who would like to participate in the long drive can throw once for free. Additional throws will be sold for $2 each or 3 for $5. There is a maximum of 4 throws per player. We will have the same 3 divisions for long drive that we have for doubles - Pro, Advanced, and Rec. The Pro division will be playing for an as-yet-undetermined amount of cold hard cash, Advanced and Rec will throw for merch.
24 players pre-registered as of right now - more coming in every day. The last chance to sign up and get the $5 discount is Saturday during doubles. We will take registration the morning of the event, but it will be full price. See you in a couple days!

so, it looks like we will most likely be getting some rain tomorrow night and possibly sunday. I've decided that if the course gets too muddy, we are going to play the normal 18 holes (with a couple of special conditions - 17's basket will still be moved and 5's "long" tee will not be in play) on Sunday, from the concrete pads. As much as I like the additional tournament holes and the championship pads, I favor the safety of my disc golf family. :)
Regardless of what weather may or may not happen tomorrow night, it looks great for doubles in the morning! C'mon out and join us

The last tournament Bryan ran - rain. The first tournament Bryan plays in a long time... rain. Whose fault is the rain? You be the judge ;)
31 teams enjoyed the pretty weather today for doubles! I will try to get scores posted for that tonight but it will at least be posted at the course tomorrow. Almost all teams who placed have already been paid out, but those who haven't can pick up their payout tomorrow.
Regarding play tomorrow, I have had to make some difficult choices to keep players safe while still allowing us to have the most fun possible in the weather conditions. We will not be able to use the 3 tournament holes that I laid out for last year's tournament (and the one back in March). We also will not be able to use the championship pads. I have opted for all concrete pads instead. This means we can hold fewer players, but we'll also get done faster and be safer overall. I hate to have to do this, but it is what it is.
Also, the long drive competition and ring of fire might not be able to happen this year. It will all depend on the weather, but I promise I will still find a way to give out the stuff that I had reserved for those competitions. I'll decide during round 1, but I'm thinking that we will have a per-card CTP (a la Mr. Jim's) so you guys will still get to go home with more cool stuff. In the event that the rain lets up Sunday afternoon, we'll proceed as originally planned.
Right now we have approximately 50 players pre-registered for tomorrrow! We will allow late registration in the morning, but without the pre-reg discount. Remember that the Pro divisions are playing for $500 added cash, which as of right now is about $85 per player on top of the entry fees! If you're an open player who is unsure about whether or not to play in the rain... that $500 should help make the decision for you :)
See you all in the morning!

SCORES!
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9609&year=2009&include_ratings=1#Open
Thanks again to everyone who came out to play, especially those who stuck it out all the way through. The weather was pretty nasty the first round, with the creek rising to over 5 feet above normal. It settled down after that, and the second round had only a little bit of drizzle. There were no aces, so we split the $225 ace pot via CTP throwoff. We also gave away approximately $500 worth of merch with a 2nd round CTP!
Big thanks to Innova Champion Discs, The Ciy of Mesquite, Mr. Jim's Pizza (S. Carrollton location - Bryan James), and Team DisQualified. An even bigger thanks to the persistent few who refused to let the rain keep them away from this year's Mesquite Open :). McKinney is next!
