It's that time again! The only two day B-Tier in Lewisville, TX. We are expecting another great attendance and encourage preregistration. It will be the same price to sign up online as it will be on location so get signed up early and secure your spot!
I'd like to say a huge thanks to "Old Man" Tom McCutcheon with USAutomatic for sponsoring the event again as well as Lloyd Sitkoff with Try Tone Records.
Each entry fee includes the ace fund!
We area also trying something new for this event that will hopefully encourage more non-PDGA members to come out. We are opening up the 'CASUAL' Division which will not be part of the PDGA tournament. Basically, it will be the exact same for everyone but there will not be the $10 non-PDGA member fee and there will not be any PDGA fees taken out of the entry! Again, this is to encourage new players to come out and get a taste for a PDGA tournament and to see what benefits they can get from playing in a tournament without having to pay the non-member fee. This division can be considered a mix of MA2, MA3, and MA4. It is hard to say who will show up and play in this division but if you have a PDGA number you can not play in this division. If anyone has questions about this please don't hesitate to ask. Please spread the word about what the CASUAL division is and encourage as many new players to come out as possible! When players in the casual division sign up they will be posted under the MA4 division on the PDGA page. As soon as the official results are turned in they will be removed from the PDGA results. It will be worth it and I would like to see a lot of players in this division who have never played a tournament!
Can't wait to get back to Texas! CoolDaddySlickBreeze will be on scene again! If you haven't checked out his site lately I recommend that you do so as there are a lot of cool videos on there! He will be getting interviews and photos of as many players as possible and will have them posted on the www.DynamicDiscs.com and www.CoolDaddySlickBreeze.com as soon as he can get them off his camera!
I will get the registration link posted and registration up on the PDGA as soon as I have it available.

Registrations are coming in at a faster rate now! Get signed up today so that you don't have to worry about it on friday or saturday morning. It is the same price to sign up online as it is in person and really helps things out saturday morning if more players sign up online. We get more sleep friday night as well! More sleep for us in the rv=more free stuff given out over the weekend:)
the weather report looks great! Don't miss out on a great weekend of golf.
Just a reminder that we will be out at the park friday just a little after noon. Come check in or sign up, play doubles, and check out all the merchandise. We will have more plastic at this event than any other dd event in the past so there will be something for everyone.
Lunch will be available at the park both saturday and sunday. From the way it sounds we will have two different people serving food so there will be an excellent variety to choose from for $5 or less for a complete bbq meal.

ok, just a couple of quick questions
1. are doubles sign up at the course?
2. What time can we play doubles?
3. What is the payout?
4.Is the payout in cash or discs?
Rusco

You can play doubles anytime after 12pm on Friday and you just sign up on the spot. The last groups will need to start no later than 6:30 or so. There are two divisions for doubles. Pro pays cash and amateur pays plastic/merchandise. Payout is 100% of the entries.

60 people!
I am sure Rusco will have his phone glued to his ear for the next 2 days. People will be using his minutes and running up his bill. "I will be there, save me a spot", "I may have to go to a wedding, can you save me a spot".
Do yourself a favor and sign-up online today. It will cost you the same amount as the day before or the day of the tourney.
You don't want to risk it and be one of the people we are going to have to turn away.

It's fine if we play a warm up round at the course right? also, are doubles PDGA sanctioned? or is it just for fun?

Sep 24 2009, 03:29 PM
oh, one more question, for the amateur division will we be playing par as 59? or 54 like the pro?

Par is 54, Doubles is for fun and they don't close off the course for doubles.

Jeremy and crew, you did a fantastic job this weekend, very professional. This is the way to run a tournament!
I was just curious what others thought about the Island hole #5 at LL Woods. I got a 3 and 2 on it, so I'm obviously not unhappy with my results, but the comments on the Master's cards I was on got me to thinking. Keep in mind most of these guys have played over 10 years and perhaps on 100's of courses.
Comments heard/discussed during round...
Island holes are typically shorter than this one. It appeared to play at about 300 to 320 ft according to my trusty panther. But I'm old, so I'm not really sure! But several of us have played island holes in the 220-250 ft range.
Island holes typically test the player's skill/ability to throw a controlled shot to a pre-defined area. Although this hole had a predefined area, it seemed to test the luck of the player rather than their skill. One of my righty hyzer shots I thought for sure was OB was parked when I got up there. Lucky me. But I saw many excellent shots skip past and go on the bridge or just slide down into the concrete. The island hole was on a pretty steep hill for those who did not play the course.
The drop zone was also a "hope you get lucky" shot due to the steepness of the hill. Typically the drop zone is just a formality to take the penalty, get your 4 and move on. But I saw a 5 on our card, and heard others got 5's as well.
With the amount of sidewalk and beyond OB on this course, it seemed a bit overkill to add one more "hope you get lucky" shot.
So there you have it, just throwing it out there for comment/debate. No offense to the hole designer, TD and staff intended, again this was a fantastic tourney! We are blessed to have people like this running tournaments.

Sounds like a cheezy hole, but if you got it, it can't be that hard. :)
Seriously, congrats on the victory or co-victory.

oh no he got the victory.. Congrats Brian. usually island holes are put in place due to the original hole design not being worthy . so maybe the original design should be looked at.

Quick question, are drop zones always a formality in Disc Golf? Being new to the sport I can only think of two tournaments that I played that did have a drop zone. And I didn't think either one of them were formalities.
Now, I did have some influence on the drop and I have to admit I look at drops from a much different perspective coming from a competitive ball golf background where drops are rarely a formality. And in many cases you have just as difficult of a shot with all the hazards in play but from a much shorter distance.
So from that perspective I thought the drop on 4 wasn't very difficult. And I never hit the island and had to play the drop both rounds. I just layed a putter up above the basket and took the 10'er give or take for the 4.
But there was a very high risk vs the reward if you wanted to try and take a run at it to save the 3 or lay up any closer. In that case it was an almost guaranteed 5 or higher if you missed. Maybe the risk of a roll away was too high if you tried to layup and it floated a bit too far or took a bad bounce?
Would a drop from the left side of the left tree have been better in that regard?
Or would it just be better to play it as a long hole fronted by OB short, left and long? Another option we talked about would be to leave off the OB line on the right so that it was open to that side. But then it gets confusing as to what would be save on that side vs OB short.
As always any and all suggestions are welcome!!

Hey Seewhere where were you this weekend? I heard something about you not being allowed to play tournaments out of town any more.
From what I know hole 4 is in its current state due to the local home owner complaining about discs in their yard and folks just jumping the fence to retrieve them. So the city moved it to where it is.
And we just thought of trying something different. And sometimes it works and other times it might not work so well. :)

""Hey Seewhere where were you this weekend? I heard something about you not being allowed to play tournaments out of town any more""
sounds like you were hearing El chile stories again.. I can play out of town hell just got back from arkansas. I usually dont like playing the LL woods course due to its length or lack there of.. I do love the lake course though . but I wont be doing much traveling anywhere until I learn to putt. tired of throwing my $$$ away.. maybe next year. and PS dont believe anything el chile says. :p

I will take full credit for the island hole. It was probabaly 300 feet to the island, and there was a big slope to the basket.
I missed it both rounds, and took a 4. I personally liked the island hole. I felt like it was much better then the normal hole. We normally play from a longer tee and most people lay-up short of the "creek" then dump on and drop in.
Maybe playing the hole from the normal tee and allow people to lay-up would be a good idea.
Might have to have this rule "If your disc never comes to rest on the island after crossing the "creek" you are OB and go to the drop zone." Then people would maybe go for the island or try to lay-up and chip on.
Thanks for the feedback. We want to make the tourney the best it can be.

After sifting through the footage for the Lewisville Open I finally have the highlight video ready. The Lewisville Open was my second time coming to the LL Woods and Lake Park course and it was even more fun this time around. I saw some awesome disc golf action. I tried to fit as much as I could in the 10 minute YouTube limit. As Always Dynamic Discs (http://dynamicdiscs.com) did a great job of running the tournament and making the trip from Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Texas well worth it.
Be sure to check out my photo gallery of this event where you can download high resolution photos or order prints directly from the site (http://unclebobbyjr.smugmug.com/CDSB/Disc-Golf/Lewisville-Open-2009/9792111_2job8/1/664423920_Q4PZ9).
Also if you love making videos and wearing your Dynamic Discs (http://dynamicdiscs.com) gear be sure to check out the ongoing video of the week contest on the Dynamic Discs YouTube Channel (http://youtube.com/dynamicdiscs).

dude the island was great, it usually plays from a pro tee box making it a hard 350-375 ft island hole, very hard. they moved it up to a short 320ft and played as an island, great idea and great challenge for easy course. i 5d it and 4rd it, but i loved the idea.
