The following info probably mostly reliable. I'm not connected with this tournament, but I know those who are don't frequent this discussion board, so thought I'd offer this much:

If you're not familiar with it and haven't taken a good look at the flyer, this event includes a 3-round disc golf tournament plus field events (distance, accuracy, MTA) on Sunday morning. The disc golf tournament stands alone, as far as payouts, etc., but is also one factor in overall awards that are also given out.

Crooked Creek is a nice, fairly short and technical 18-hole course. There are also 8 extra holes at the park, generally longer and more challenging and a nice compliment to the standard course. In the past, this tournament has included various combinations of the original and extra holes, making it the only chance you get to play the extra holes in competition. This alone makes it a worthwhile tournament!

I am assuming---and hoping---this set-up continues this year.

*****************

As a side-note, players who have the time and energy are welcome to visit Stoney Hill, our private course about 25 minutes away from Crooked Creek. Folks who've been out before my be interested in seeing our in-progress renovations of holes 15-17 around the pond, and our thoughts on future expansion.

Also, anyone coming to the S.C. Flying Disc Championships and wishing to, is welcome to camp for free at Stoney Hill. Contact me directly for more info.

I think LL and I are going to brave the Chapin course again.

Field events are fun. Chapin always has the caps lock on.

Distance Champ 09 as long as Koling stays away.

For those who played the spring tournament there, I'll bet the tide will be lower in September.

Coral might be a contender (if he's playing)

Mitch has confirmed that we will once again be using the extra-8 holes in various configurations with the original 18, as in the past.

For anyone practicing the course, note that holes 10 & 11 are missing due to construction at the adjacent school. I'm not sure what the plans are for these; whether there'll be temporary holes in that general area, or elsewhere.

If anyone's playing Crooked Creek for the first time and practicing this week, note further that the basket for #10 in currently in the #3 short position, so that there are 2 baskets on #3; and the basket for #11 is in the NEW short position on hole 8, so #8 also has 2 baskets. Could be a little bewildering if you look at the basket numbers and wonder how you got so lost.

Going to practice tomorrow for much of the day...Anyone out there not familiar with addt'l holes let me know. Also, I'm having a party after saturdays rounds at my house in lexington. We'll be watching the USC vs. GA game. All are welcome. I will be grilling whatever and frying up a bunch of fish. Game will be on on 2 big screens. 1 in the garage with the brand new 8' pool table and another on a 50" plasma in the big living room. Give me a call tomorrow if you're interested so I can plan on getting enough food, beer, drinks, etc...

Looking forward to this weekend, with an excellent weather forecast---mid-80s, no rain, fairways above water---and pre-registration has already exceeded last year's turnout, even with a competing event in Elberton. Although, with the return of the drought, "Crooked Ditch" is a more appropriate name; less OB, less looking for discs in the cloudy water.

Played today and conditions were excellent, no water, anywhere, on course. Alternate holes are looking sweet as well.

Are the replacements for 10 & 11 in?

(and if so, how are they?)

THEY'RE IN...10 is an "okay" hole, not close to what it was just to the right of the pine tree on right side next to fence. 280' give or take slight anheizer...Hole 11 is 1000% better. Just an easy 200' putter shot...Probably one of the easiest holes in the midlands now. In SC only easier hole I can think of is 13 at Timmons...This even count #1 at old Orangeburg course b/c this hole at chapin is wide open.
