Ahhhh....Good ol' Tup. Actually just played there yesterday when I was vacationing down at Pawley's. Only the 9 hole course, obviously.....
I wanna know the dealy too - is there gonna be a Tupelo Bay Open 2009? You know it would be the 5th anniversary!?!

Now that's what I like to hear. Those are the dates that I had in my head, so hopefully they will work out.

no worries mark. I know what richard is trying to do but plain and simple the TD does not post that often if he reads this board at all anymore. Pateince is a virtue. I am all about hyping events but asking the same questions over and over will not get the flyer and reg. up any quicker. The dudes running this event just got done hosting an event this past weekend so i am assuming that information is not far off. talk baout how great the event is or how awesome the course is not about why is registration not up etc. etc. the dudes running this thing live hours away from the location and aer very busy give them and break and thank god they are running it.

So, does anybody want to comment on the format. I liked the way things went last year. It seemed to flow pretty well playing the first two rounds without re-shuffling the board.

Yeah, I was a little stiff after Saturday - but I liked the format as well. I have been to every Tupelo event and my buddies use that weekend as a chance to get together and hang out. It was nice to have that format so we could get a chance to play together.

I agree, I was a little spent after the first day, but at least we were able to get both rounds in. The previous year was a little awkward. Hard to get going when you have to finish 8-10 holes of the previous days round. Either way, I can't wait.
Question: Have the bunkers ever played as OB? I know the 2 years that I've attended they haven't. I always thought they could/should.

Bunkers have always been casual. While making them OB would make the course much more challenging, I vote nay. I think the water being in play almost everywhere and the fact that I suck being my reasons.
Richard
Sep 17 2009, 09:04 AM
Don't forget about the greens also. Those things cost me at least 5 strokes last year. I can't wait, I love playing this tournament. I say we extend it to a week long event and play 9 holes a day with player's parties every night.
I would like to see the difference in scoring if the bunkers did play as OB. Or even use the buncr rule that the USDGC enforced last year.

I did a little diggin and came up with this. it's close but it needs to attract just a few more people
2005 - 64
2006 - 59
2007 - 64
2008 - 62
jsut a third more and it would be golden. I guess one big thing is the Charleston Classic is the weekend before and that probably detracts a few S.C. locals who jsut can't play 2 events 2 weeks straight. and we all know what a great job jonas card and the C-town crew do to make that tournament what it is. i think it filled really quickly last year.
Richard
Oct 06 2009, 03:40 PM
So, would they consider 72 to be a full tournament or are they expecting 90? I think we can do 72 easily. I'm bringing 1 other person that has never been before. If 9 other people do the same, we have a full tourney and extra cheddar.

That is a **** good question. and you are right 72 should be cake this year. I will ask Kirk when i see him later this week and post what i find out.
Kirk had said that Reg. would be up last week but i know they should have it up with in the next 2 weeks. as soon as they are done with championships.
If ZZ and TT attend then 72 should be easy.

Playoff, check. Three way action between Schweb, Jerm, and Bard. Bard was out after taking a penalty 5 on hole 1. Schweb parked hole 2, Jerm nailed a 50 footer for bird and push the playoff to 3. Playoff ended on hole 3 after Jerm missed his putt and rolled away. Schweb 2 putted for the victory. Horrible weather today, but plenty of fun. I just got back to the Atl and I'm going to bed.
Thanks to Kirk and crew for keeping this tournament alive. I love this place and will always return as long as you have a tournament.
