First off, i am hoping Tim Selinske is in good health. Does anyone know how he is doing these days?
I was curious if the Masters Championship is still on the schedule for September,
Of course i understand if it isnt going to happen. I just dont see any info such as a flyer or
hyperlink for signups. Thanks anyways, Floyd

"The US Masters Championship"
Where is the hype for this "M" tier event?
Seems a Championship level tourney at La Mirada could use a little more promotion.
Would be awesome to draw a field of the TOP Masters players from around the world.
It is a great course and sponsored well. I just thought there could be a bigger field of players representing more areas. Maybe i should list some names of possible candidates to make it a very competitive group. Lets start with Climo..........Be nice to see him throw with us in the "Age Protected Division". Wisecup,Oates,Tannock,Hammock,Collicut,Mela, are good competition with many others to mention.
There is only "ONE" Masters Championship event a year and i wish for it to be more huge!
Peace, Floyd
ps Thanks Discette for the sign-up link!

U.S. Masters is the "forgotten Major." :( It's always a great tourney and a great time, but it never gets any hype Nationally and hardly any locally.
That's just a shame for such a great tourney.
So it takes all of us to encourage all of our old-fart friends to come out. Youngsters are also welcome...to come help out! Don't forget that a ton of the TDs of PDGA events are "Master or better" aged, so this is the chance for you young whipper-snappers to do a little bit of payback by spotting or whatever. :)

See, it really is the "forgotten major"!
Anyone want to talk about the excellent long layout of La Mirada?
How about the dubious nature of hole 14, the long skinny one in the back by the street? I call it "dubious" because it's a great hole in a terrible location.

It looks like there will be close to $5,000 added to the U S Masters payout. This is in addition to the awesome player packages for all players and the excellent free player dinner and free raffle at Geezer's on Saturday Night.
The maps for the long 18 hole layout should be available on the US Masters web site soon (and the La Mirada Pro Shop). The baskets should be in position by this weekend. (The two 18 hole courses will still be installed, but baskets will be in the US Masters position for those holes.)
It would be great if players could pre-register as soon as possible. While Tim is still experiencing health problems, there are plenty of experienced and dedicated volunteers working to make this an awesome event.
Again, sign up early so you can get some of that added cash!

Howdy All:
Last year I had to pull out of the US Masters due to work. This year I will have to miss it because of teaching obligations. I am seriously bummed. I wish I could make it. This is a great tournament. I love the challenge of the La Mirada Gold layout, which is by far my favorite course in Southern California.
Good luck to all the competitors, and I hope to see you next year!
Cheers, DD

I tried mapping this course back in 2005-06 for my Masters project, but did not get it done.
I miss SoCal and have been trying to get back to La Mirada and play in this awesome Tourney when I "finally" hit the eligible age. (this year, yippeeee, er wait... )
I am still trying to talk the spouse into letting me spend the $$$ to fly out and stay for this awesome event. I have SOOO wanted to play the "Gold 18." I watched the 2005 tourney and really became eager to age so I can play in it...
Here's to hoping I can make it in my 1st year of being "eligible."

I think a great idea would be to actually survey the top 100 or so players that could not make it and find out why. Too soon after worlds? Due to either work/vacation limits, mental dg "break" or what ever. I have found that this type of action provides extremely useful data and is often surprising.
Sorry I can't be there, and good luck to all,
Doc Gordon

I'm looking forward to this like you wouldn't believe. It'll be my first time back at La Mirada since the 2004 So Cal Championships where I broke my hand. http://www.flickr.com/photos/steveganz/7283247/

You don't need an invite to compete in the US Masters, you only need to be at least 40 by the end of 2009.

I am about 90% I can make the trek across half the US to make it.
However, due to travel costs etc etc. I am wanting to avoid renting
a car as it is obviously expensive.
I plan on staying at the red roof host hotel.
I have typically not had to depend on others for rides and such, but this
time I really need to save the money. (I am using FF miles to get there).
I know DGers are typically very forth coming with this type of thing, but
wanted to get the word out and see if I can be confident in getting rides.
(a free lunch may be in order for said rides.).
Thanks

Too bad Deano, we will miss you, this time.
Man, i wish i had more nice things to say about Tim as i started this thread but God only knew his situation clearly. He will be missed greatly by many folks and family. This sport as well as the upcoming US Masters Championship has been successful based upon doings by Tim and others who love this game and life. May He rest in peace!!
I will do no more guilt trips or call outs of players to come experience this event.
You are on your own there. Hope to see whomever chooses to play, Good Luck!

The cost wasn't in question. I found round trip tickets out of Richmond for $290. It was more about commitment. The tournament would have been my second reason for being there. It's a tournament i've always wanted to play but I wouldn't want to give a sub-par performance because I was distracted.

Sep 06 2009, 12:05 AM
Hey Hysell, there is no way you will shoot sub-par on this layout, you will be many, many strokes over par!
Rick LeBeau and I made the 100 miles trek to LaMa today to play the layout, even though I cannot make the tournament due to work. I am tempted to drive back tomorrow. There have been a few changes, all for the better in my opinion. Hole 8 is longer by about 60', and hole 9 by about 20-30'. Hole 10 is much improved, and is no longer a deuce run. The basket for hole 13 is left of the previous position and brings OB into play more than before.
I shot OK on the front and bled like a stuck pig on the back. Prepare for carnage! DD

I see in the points standings that Ken Climo is the #1 Masters player.
Dont you have to play in Masters to get those points?
We got room for the #1 player this weekend at La Mirada.
Have a nice day.

Points stopped being by division several years ago - now points are pro and am for both the men and women and Masters titles are won if you are "old enough" to win them.
Both men and women pro masters points titles were won by players that NEVER played in the masters division, and both were actually stunned to hear their names called.

Once again Innova and So Cal Disc Club has went "Beyond the Call of Duty" to apease us disc golfers.
In memory of former T.D. Tim Selinske they included a wonderfully nice stamped Star Dart putter and a super durable heavy mini, charcoal in color. They are both stamped with reflective logo for the 2009 US Masters Championship with a Tim Selinske fascimile signature
in honor of his work, spirit, and most kind contributions he has made to our lives and this sport we love. Whomever put this great tribute together i say THANKS!!!
I am very glad to have signed up for this fun event and to have received such a nice
players pack. Good Job!! Sorry i am not computer savvy enough to take a picture to show you what it looks like but maybe someone else can make that happen.
R.I.P. Tim, and when i go O.B. i will smile and think of how fortunate we are because of you!

Nice round Ganzy!
From what I've heard of the 2nd round, Hosfeld takes lead in GM. Hunt Hyde also had a hot round and is in 2nd followed by Doug Werner.

Still, I can't wait to get back out there tomorrow. :)

I followed the Pro Grand lead card around all 18 yesterday and had a very entertaining time. Hosfeld was extremely steady - only had a few hiccups enroute to his 62 and the win. Hunt, Jeff and Robby all played well, but each had a stumble somewhere out there.
Gregg carries perhaps the most eccentric bag of discs you'll ever see. Along with a few Wraiths, a Destroyer, TeeBird, etc. he also carries a 150-class Aviar, a Hammer, Stingray, 86 Softie, and a Wham-O 71-mold. Oh, and he putts with a Polecat.

The only thing he is missing is an Aero. I love that disc!
