Yes! We are gung ho and ready to go overboard for the USWDGC in 2009.
This is the first of many posts in which we can hopefully communicate back and forth about what Women are wanting for this event. My hopes are that you are honest about what has worked and hasnt, so we can give you an experiance that youll want to come back for. ( Both to the QCs and to other USWDGC Events in the future )
We have some great things in the mix already and had ears to the ground this year in Peoria, so we have already begun to list things that could go better, or make the experiance more worthwhile. It seems from the boards that everyone had a great time, despite the smaller than hoped for attendance.
Quad Cities has plans to BLOW THIS EVENT UP. We are having great success working with the Cities and the Park Departments, and everyone involved is eagerly anticipating your arrival! We already have high hopes this will be the best USWDGC ever, and with your feedback and our planning, ( yeah, we got some time on our hands. :D) we feel Women will have this on their schedule BEFORE '08 in Jacksonville.

Oh no, Milan is building a course for this event, more or less. I think its looking like West Lake, Camden, Middle, Richmond Hill and some others are all in the loop. The Cities are all coming on board with this, so its a pretty incredible event in the making.
QC Disc Golf Club members have been working on the Camden II course, and are doing an amazing job. Sprague had his hand in alot of the designing and its going to be a top notch course based more on technical shots than distance. It was the lure of hosting a portion of this event ( that and alot of hard work from the Milan Crew ) that brought this course off the drawing board and onto the agenda. Now Camden will have 36 holes on 2 courses, with most having multiple placements on the New Course and Long Tees and some additional pin placements on the original course.
Heres some info on the courses and Club:

The Waterford Brakel women have decided to play this instead of KC Worlds. Kelsey will make every effort to obtain leave from college and she will play pro. If there are any Am GrandMaster women who would like to have a division, Diana is willing to admit her age if you are. We are planning a scouting trip in august if anyone would like to join us. The webpage says the courses will be Camden 1 and 2, Middle Park, Prospect Park and West Lake.

Where is the information about this event? I have been asking for awhile now,. all that is up is the courses we are playing and the host hotel, other than that we have nothing!!! Come on ,. seriously, women generally plan things in advance and none of us can really make plans if we don't know WTF is going on!!! There is no registration info,no extra cirricular info, nothing! This is supposed to be a major and so far I am not impressed with the lack of info with the event only 12 weeks away. Please someone with some knowledge of what is going on throw us a bone!

Hello all, and thank you so much for your patience!
The dust is just starting to settle from our 4th annual River Cities Rumble tournament (and my family vacation with 3 adolescents ), and we're taking up where we left off to get back up to speed on this most important event.
The website is undergoing some major changes and should be up with registration shortly.
Bruce, I'm not sure where you've been sending emails, but any emails that I've received for this have been replied to on the day they were sent.
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will respond in a timely manner.
Thanks to Dave Gentry for helping me get set up, and making my first post here on the PDGA forum.
Talk to you soon,

We checked out the new Camden II on our visit through the QC, WOW! An amazing effort by all involved to bring a fully wooded course to the Quad-Cities disc golf scene. This course has generous fairways, elevation, bridges, steps and some sweet Par 4 holes that will challenge your golf mentality. A lot of work has gone into this one and it shows. Hats off to Chris Sprague and his tireless work crew for getting Camden park its second course.
Should make for a great day of disc golf for the USWDGC!

We will be in town Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 5, 6 and 7 days from now.
Can you tell us anything about the 18 hole layout at West Lake designed specifically for the tournament?
The Middle Park scorecard on your website shows red, blue and yellow. Are those tees or basket positions? Do you know which they'll be playing?
It is not so important that we practice the exact same configurations that they'll be playing for the tournament. We mostly want to see where the courses are and what they are like. It looks like there are course maps and scorecards on your websites that will be helpful.

I think the actual layout will depend on division. Most will play short tees, so Id suggest prcaticing there unless theres a Open woman along. There has been talk of an 18 hole loop, its really a matter of which holes need to go. The standard tourney 18 layout wont cut out the time required, as it still keeps the longer holes in the rotation. Standard 18 has been: 1-7, 13-21, 22 and 23 combined and then 24. Thats the best layout there, but you lose all the smaller holes on the topside of the course, so I think we may use a different one I have been working on with help.
Middle has one Tee pad, multiple positions. I personally think it will be a mixed layout, but havent been asked anything about Middle.
I know this isnt much help, try to get more info for you before the weekend after I talk with John.

24 at West Lake. Its worth it even if you dont play it during the tourney, as they only have one pin placement. Pretty sure the only women playing the longs will be Open Women. As you get to the park you will be looking for gate 4. Just inside a bit is a kiosk on the right. There are printed color scorecards, very nice. And yes, there is signage on both West Lake and Middle Park.

Jul 30 2009, 05:15 PM
Chase is correct on West Lake. If not playing Open, best bet will be to play the short tees. I'm still waiting for some input from a couple of folks on the layout there, so that it's still tough, but fair without "dumbing it down", and maintaining a good flow. I'll try to get that for you by the time you arrive.
Middle has pretty decent tee signs so check those. Many of the pins are where the will be for the tournament, but a few will be moved to their shorter positions.
Ams will play Camden 1 from the White tees.

so TRUE, well put eric. weak coverage. weak turnout. hope to god it's not a weak payout too. They should pay ALL the women out, because they're no that many there, and hopefully a lot of $$$ was raised. Yes, i do see that there is live coverage today- but that would be expected.
GOOD LUCK you noreastern women-- Maureen, Anne, Marielle, and Marie!!!!!!!!!!
Whoever has this event next year- please look at ways to get women there- there has never been a turnout for this tourney that you would think a major for women would attract. i hope that changes.

I have to agree with whats been posted in the previous couple posts. VERY sad that the PDGA would schedule a summit for the same weekend as a major. NO information or pics on the home page about this major.
THe PDGA sends multiple people to the worlds only to have them blog about bug candy and legos but can't send someone to the Womens national tournament, this is not right. Its stuff like this that shows me why the sport is stuck where it is. I have 2 young girls who are just starting to play and it would have been great to show them some pics or information about this Major womans disc golf event on the internet, to bad the pdga provided niether. COME on PDGA board, show the women some respect because you certainly did not by having a summit scheduled the same weekend.

I do believe part of the job for a PDGA Marshall at an NT or Major is to provide coverage for the PDGA. I know Terry Miller always helped with score keeping, taking photos and submitting stories to PDGA as part of his duties in Peoria.

"Super Great Job John R. and the Quad Cities Crew!!! There were so many amenities and fun times that it is hard to list them all!
- The courses were clean, fun and challenging. As an amateur, I really appreciated playing Camden 1 and the shorter tees at Westlake and playing only 18 holes there! The spotters and scorekeepers all were handsome, charming and so very helpful!
- The players pack with the event Huk-Lab collared shirt, organic Iowa Soap and Bug Spray, lots of Luna Bars, hair ties, and way ubercool Keen Socks and Keen chap stick and Disc-Diva button and discount coupons and other items was greatly appreciated.
- The course maps were clear and uniform, the Players Guide included directions so we didn’t get lost in the QC! The players parties were fun and Saturday night the super funk band playing outside in front of RIBCO (Rock Island Brewery)! Carl Denson’s Tiny Universe and opening band Uniphonics from Iowa City got the groove on!
- There were apples, bananas, coffee, breakfast bars Luna Bars, waters , pop, Snapple products all over the courses and lunches provided each day. There was even a special delicious USWDGC cake provided by Hy-Vee Food Stores for after the awards ceremony.
We are very lucky here in the Midwest – IA, IL, MO, KS, NE, WI, OH, and MN. Over the years we have had so many gentleman disc golfers who have shown huge support for us ladies. And you all in the Quad Cities have continued the tradition and demonstrated that support again by running a hugely successful event!

I think they've pressed the ignore button! LOL
J/K, bottomline, maybe all the ladies of disc golf should go on strike, not help out at any events, don't support your man, quit listening to them when they have a bad day of disc golf, yep, maybe that might stir up some interest. ;)

nice post- hearing the positive is good!!
i am not surprised iowa ran an awesome tourney- and i am sure those involved worked really hard to pull it off and make it memorable.
it's just that there was a tremendous lack of coverage, which is something to be addressed for next year so that it doesn't happen again. scores should be up promptly. day to day front page updated article/pics- just like you see for NTs and other majors. payouts listed with final scores. what's frustrating is that these issues have been discussed at committee meetings for several years- there should be a standard recipe for running a major- items that must be addressed and carried out- NO exceptions.
Please take this as advice and not negativity. i know players that were there, and i am sure to hear all good stories.

Sep 21 2009, 05:50 PM
Yes, i agree. I'm not trying to complain, but I know this isn't a new issue. There was a great ladies meeting at Worlds, and having this lack of interest so soon after that is disappointing.
Having been involved in our local a-tier, Texas States for years has generated a certain standard that one expects from big events, and that isn't just the ladies events. The ball has been dropped a few times this year, and I am sure steps will be taken to help prevent that in the future.
Hosting an event like is more than one realizes until you're waist deep in it. I'm sure next year we'll find something else to "discuss"
Bottomline, doesn't everyone want to see girls on the front page?

I was not a "official TD" of this event but worked my butt off to make sure that everyone had a good time and was treated like a lady should be treated. Sorry for some of the negative posts when people criticized, but you tend to take things like that very personal when you are up at 5:45 in the morning to load a truck, trailer, and a yamaha rhyno, then work the tournament all day, take a quick shower, grab your wife and head to the players party because you don't want to miss a minute of the fun with these wonderful ladies. It was the best disc golf experience I have ever had, and I never threw a disc. You haven't lived until you have have seen Ma Wallace booty groovin with all the girls at the players party. Thanks again to all our ladies and a special thanks to our senior grandmasters Leslie Charles and Chris Powell for letting me be a part of their weekend, I enjoyed every single minute of it. My wife and I are giving serious consideration to packing up the rhyno and heading down to help next year.
