other info i've heard/read
each division (Am, Pro) will have 36 teams max... the Ams currently have a waitlist but if you are interested you should get your money in and get on the list. There is a good chance a lot will be getting in off the waitlist since they are just waiting on confirmation from the pre-qualified captain spots (can be found on the xls spreadsheet) and spots will be open if people on that list decline.

as mentioned before... if you aren't on the waitlist for the Am side but are on the fence... this is an awesome tourney and just the chance to play inside the ropes in a tourney format @ winthrop alone is worth the money/time. I've helped volunteer for years @ USDGC and have played the spectator day a couple times now but nothing compared to actually playing a 'real' round @ winthrop.
for the Pros... from what I hear there are still spots out there but I would get signed up... its the weekend before USDGC so the 'traveling pros' or guys that are getting in town early will be signing up... and last year with only 18 teams (half of a full field) 1st place got ~$1800!!!... 2nd was over $1000 and i think 3rd was still close to over $1000. Good money to be had!

Warnings and penalty throws for the following violations shall apply to the team as a whole: courtesy, practice throw, interference, late scorecard, and incorrect scorecard. All other warnings and penalty throws shall apply to the offending player only. Any call that requires confirmation must be confirmed by players on other
teams. In the Best Shot, Tough Shot, and Best Disc formats, you do not throw if it is mathematically impossible for you to improve your team's score on a hole. In the Best Shot and Tough Shot formats, the second player does not throw if the first player has holed out. Best Shot
Best Shot is by far the most popular doubles format. Both players throw from each lie (starting with the tee shot), then the team chooses which of the resulting lies to continue play from, until the hole is completed.
A team may take a reasonable amount of time to pick which lie they want before the 30-second play clock starts.
A lie that is picked up without being marked is gone forever; the team must throw from the other lie. If the second lie is picked up, it must be replaced in accordance with PDGA rules. All lies must be marked according to PDGA rules.
((((((If the first player throws from the wrong lie, the second player may still throw from the correct lie. ))))))))
In case of injury or disqualification, one partner may play alone, throwing one shot at each lie (essentially playing singles).
i was trying to bold the part thats interesting to me but just ((((())))))) when i couldnt figure it out..wouldnt the first player throwing from the wrong lie be a practice throw?seems like two parts of the rule conflict with each other

what you are describing is actually captains choice. best shot or best disc is when each player plays his own disc throughout the hole & you take the best score for team.

nope i copy pasted from the link above

Best Disc (Best Score)
In Best Disc (also known as Best Score), each player plays the hole as they would while playing singles; there are no shared lies. The team score is the best score on the hole by one of its players.
The player who is away will always throw first, with this exception: If both players are lying the same number of throws, the team may choose which player throws first.
A player must pick up once it is impossible for him to better the team's score. The team incurs a warning for the first violation, and a penalty throw for subsequent violations.
In case of injury or disqualification, one partner may play alone.
i believe this is what your refering to also a copy paste

I arrived last year on Thursday before the event and the ropes very still being finalized....
Not sure when they try to get it done but last year it was last minute it seemed.......
stack
Sep 08 2009, 11:18 AM
ropes aren't usually up and i'm not even sure if all of the baskets will be in the correct spots if you come up this Friday... in years past it seems like they usually get out there Monday before Dubs and unofficially have things finalized around Wednesday or Thursday. I say unofficially because as Scott noted there is still some tweaking going on. The caddy books are also usually posted online around that time and the ropes shouldn't deviate too far from those.
If you haven't been to winthrop before I highly recommend printing out last years caddy book (available on usdgc.com) so you can find your way around and try and play the course as it was last year.
That being said there really is no substitute to playing the course with the actual ropes up... it adds an instant pucker factor for most and you wouldn't believe how many shots end up inches on the wrong (and if you're lucky the right) side of the ropes.
As far as Renny and The Web... definitely visit Charlottedgc.com and print out a map for those as well but other than that they are ready for play

Don't mind sleeping on the floor and are willing to buy drinks, dinner, liquor bottle, etc. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, my playing partner and I came up this past Friday. Played 2 rounds at the Web and 1 round at Renny Gold. Courses looked great and we can't wait for the tourney. The round at the Web is going to be tough. We actually shot quite well at Renny, I think??

We played all rounds in the tourney format. The first round at The Web we shot a 70, second round we shot a 65. The 70 was pretty bad. The round at Renny Gold we shot a 60. Not sure how that stacks up, but I felt pretty good about it after the round. We could/should have shot a 58, but we missed a couple of putts from about 40-45 feet. Not gimmes by any stretch. MTL... i wouldn't assume that about the caddy books. I've heard we'll get a copy of the winthrop book (1 per team) like we did last year but not sure if they're printing books for the other ones since they just got finished. Also unless we get a sponsor or something they'll probably want to keep tourney cost down which will allow for more money in the purse. There is a link at the bottom of the page to print in pdf... I would recommend doing that if you'll want one with you. I just did this today @ work and once I figured out the orientation of the paper feed in my printer it worked well

anyone know if winthrop is tee times or shotgun start?

shotgun... ams start @ 8a, pros start @ 1p (both w/ a players meeting before)

final call... Pros don't start until 1p so if you are a pro and you're thinking of playing make it out to the course tomorrow morning while the Ams are playing and get registered. Rumor has it that some top touring pros are looking for partners so we are sure to get some late entries.
Also I'm hoping to be able to get online from the course and give some live updates... I think its too tough to predict a winner for this but I have to think MJ/Cam are going to be a really tough pair to beat. Of course Avery/Feldberg, Schweb/Barry and some others are HUGE contenders as well! Should be fun as always!

It be great if you could cover an overview of the AMs as they proceed, maybe updates at hole 12, really interested in how thier scores play out today. Both AM and Pro are playing 666 correct? If so this will be fun.
Also, cant leave out the defending champs and Cale/Nikko on the proside.
Have fun yall.

am side is posted... Pro players meeting is going on now and they should be starting just about on time (1p). will try to update with info on the pro side when they start.
Sick shooting w/ the 2 Am sides shooting 60s!!! I really thought for sure the best am score would be around 65... maybe 64. 2 60's is crazy given the format.
Pro side plays 1-6 best hole (they both play out their own discs and card the best score), 7-12 TOUGH SHOT & 13-18 Captains choice.

I dont have the cards to confirm Max but we'll try to get it figured/straightened out... i know right now Burro and others are busy w/ Monday Qualifiers.
side note... Anyone know if Gallops or Brewer were going to try and qualify on Monday... thinking they both could shoot a solid score out there but a 450' thumber would work wonders @ USDGC! :)
