Yeah, I left work at 2:30 yesterday and I come back today and it's gone. Somebody must of narc'd to the PDGA yet nobody's name appears in the probation list.

That was some classic stuff and now it's gone. :(

If the PDGA is looking for some extra cash then it ought to compile a book from all the trash talk threads it has deleted over the years and offer it for sale in a plain brown paper wrapping.

Because of their action I am going to have put a stop payment on the "Send the Dude to DG Camp" check I just sent in.

The only reason why I have a downfall and drop in World Ranking is due to not having reliable transportation... Just admit it. You chose a realationship over disc golf. I'm NOT knocking you for it, she is a GREAT gal but If you don't think so, then name me a tournament out of those 20 that were not either in Oklahoma or in a State connected to it. And you might have a car if you wouldn't let her drive.:D

There will be a day when you decide to make it your hobby. That will be the day she tells you "remember that time last month we forgot to stop at the store?" "well guess what?" Now you have an extra mouth to feed and it won't happen collecting at minis and c tiers on the weekends. As a matter of fact it won't happen out on tour for the majors either. Thats when life takes over. Plain and simple. Then all you can do is make your comeback in the MPM division.

Yeah in the old days I could be Master's this year, and I never lose to Brad around here. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins Master's again this year, he's been playing pretty good. I will probably be playing Masters at World's in 2013 especially if it's here in Augusta like it may be.

I remember when I could have been a contender. It was the first Riverside Glide I went to but instead of the TD putting me on a card with a mentor with vision that could have cultivated and helped me find my DG true potential, I was put on a card with Bud Johnson and Steve Naegele. Mentors with "double vision" and thus my game spiraled into and endless pool of emtpy beer cans and a life time of sleeping in. :(

Why should the TDSA support a guy who doesn't even show to be a "current" TDSA member?

And what kind of job did Wise give him? Mowing the lawn? Cleaning up the dog pooh in the back yard? Shoveling horse crap at the horse barn?

Is that satisfactory?

sschumacher
Jul 17 2009, 12:35 PM
Well normally if I were to agree with you that would make us both wrong but in this case I would think what is good for the goose is good for the gander. :)

The TDSA schedule exposes Tulsa DG to your Owassonite players just it exposes Tulsa DG'er to Owasso.

And no, I'm not wasting time "whiting out" Centenial minis on the flyers I hand out. I'm just whiting out your name and putting my name in there instead. :)

Well it doesn't mean we're going steady or anything.

I think I liked it better when you were ignoring me.

I think the club should look into expanding it's schedule by printing discount coupons from local business's willing to offer any type of discount to DG'ers.

50 cents off a sandwich at Steak-2-Go.

Crowcreek ?

Charlestons ?

Put it on the back of the schedule and make the schedule "the coupon".

Heck of an Idea.

I have always thought that for the $20 membership (for 1 year) maybe the club could use it as a loss leader. Give the member a nice shirt, with an embordiered club logo, maybe even their name on it and a club bag tag. Give them both away at costs. I think this would generate a HUGE increase in active memberships and it would show our club strength, as they may be wearing these at out of town tournaments. Maybe give them a choice of a winter type shirt or hoodie and a summer shirt. After two years they could have something to wear supporting the club year round.
As it is now, active memberships don't create enough income for the club to create a fart in the account.

Right now what does the member get for their $15 annual or $20 two year membeship?

On top of that, at minis, if they're not a member, charge them $1 extra. Use the $1 for course improvements. Some will just pay the dollar but many will jump on board as a new member. A member can show their current year tag as proof when they sign up. or the club could provide a monthly membership roster. To make this work, all memberships would have to run concurrently for a clandar year. Every one renews at the same time. If a new member gets in in June, they still get their stuff but it expires in December. If a New member joins Oct-Dec, then they have the entire next year but only get one shirt but they would get a new tag in January.

pdorries
Jul 17 2009, 02:04 PM
I love all of those ideas Wise except the membership expiring in Decemeber. People are slammed with PDGA member fees and tulsa member fees at the same time.

There are countless MORE things that the TDSA could do that it doesn't with these membership fees, or the whole idea of memberships. We got those guys over tat "The Line" who are good at printing stuff on gear and discs.

My opinion on bag tags is we should have them, but we should have ONE bag tag that everyone uses. Chandler tags... okc tags.. tulsa tags.... we just need 1 active set of tags. Now I got no problem with holding some OKC tags ransom, but we need to promote Tulsa tags a lot, to where it actually means something to hold a top 5 tag.

I agree that if a membership actually provided something extra to the player that it would be much more attractive.

Jul 17 2009, 04:07 PM
IMO, I prefer tags over a t-shirt just because as a TD it’s easier to carry tags around for sale than 3 or 4 different sizes of shirts. I think the club should offer two types of memberships. Standard $10 with numbered tag included and Deluxe $20 with tag and club shirt though I’m still not into the shirt deal as much. Having a club shirt with your name across the back is not that big of deal to me. I’ve got a WAFDA club shirt with my name on it and I never wear it. Most likely because I always have so many CS tees left over. Having your name on the shirt would mean that you would have to wait to get it also where as the tag puts something in the players hand at purchase.

If a player only renews membership after he hits an ace, (which many do) then hit him with the $15 membership and show him the error of his ways.

Just from my experience.

Dave Wise did a great job on the bag tags and organizing and running the eventual and probably best bag tag tourney I’ve ever seen. I can’t remember how many tags he sold total at $15 but I’m proud of my “one and done” shirt.

Last years bag tags never got off the ground due to what I believe were promotional problems.

All 100 of the CS25 tags have been sold and the reason I believe they did was.....

$10 is cheaper than $15
25th anniversary
Fund raiser for CS25 and Moose Run
Big, fat, and colorful with superior quality that stands out on your bag. (Thanks to the great work of Arkie SC Even McKee)
It had my great mug shot on it.
Collector’s item.
And last but not least I promised a lot of future perks which I may regret.

BVA has a golden mini basket perk sitting in his house.
Every event I’ve had since then offers at special CTP for tag holders and now that people see that they ask me if they can still buy a tag and I’ve got to say sorry but I’ve sold all of them. Most all of these people are not even TDSA members but imagine if TDSA offered more than just a right to vote and $1 off merch.

It was not my intention to take the bag tag deal away from the TDSA but as it was, nobody was doing it anyway.

I believe the issue should be put to a membership vote at the club picnic for:

A / Reduce the yearly membership from $15 to $10 and offer a club bag tag and possible a deluxe membership for $20 if needed.

B / Redirect the 20% cash it takes home from the total paid CTP of each mini and make that a special member only cash CTP at every mini for those who have their current year tags with them.

In other words for example, take the $6 the club takes at a mini with 30 paid CTP entrants and give a loyal member a chance to take some of his money back home.

Maybe just do it once or twice a month.

Let it build a few weeks and then it could be like $24-25. Imagine the novice guy that never cashes at a mini because of the baggers but owns a bag tag and turns around and grabs a twenty with one well placed shot. Ka-ching!!!!!

I believe the club is already subsidizing a few free CTP’s at a few special events so maybe the club membership would like something like this or some variation.

All TD’s would sell tags and participate and the club could possibly send some goodies to OKC and Arkansas for the faithful that bought tags here but live there.

A bag tag tourney should be a club event. Possibly at the picnic with matches consisting of 9 holes instead of 18 to save time.

As far as tags being held hostage. I sold them as a grab bag deal so that everyone would have a chance at lower number at least in the beginning. Some people may have only bought a CS tag because low numbers were still available in the bag long after they went on sale. Can’t do anything about someone that hordes the lower numbers but the winner of the bag tag tourney no matter what his original tag was, should be rewarded with a final city or state champ tag or trophy that makes having the # 1 tag in your possession less of a big deal. Sure, I would rather see the number 1 tag in the competition but I can’t force the holder to show up to lay it on the line. Maybe some cash incentive would help.

Another thing to think about. Lifetime members like myself don't pay to renew but with club bag tags on sale and perks to go with it I would be willing to pay $10 to get one vs not paying anything now.

Call an Admin today and tell them that "More is More"!!!!!
