how come $ 20.00 more than last year i was going to play but again you raised the price to high not even an b or c tear way too pricey
OAKIEDONKEY
Jul 14 2009, 11:37 AM
THE PRICE IS JUST GOING UP TO MEET THE DEMAND...SOME OF US PLAY HEADS UP 10.00 A ROUND...SOME TIMES, TWO ROUNDS A DAY...SOME OF US PLAY TWO MINIS A WEEK (12.00 A ROUND ACE POT AND CTP INCLUDED)...MINIS USED TO BE 2/2 AT 10:00AM AND 2:00PM (12.00 A ROUND ACE POT AND CTP INCLUDED) SATURDAY AND SUNDAY...WITH AN EXTRA ROUND EITHER BETWEEN OR AFTER...SOME WEEK ENDS YOU CAN SPEND 50.00-60.00 EASY...SO WHY WOULD 55.00 (EA PRO) FOR A NON-SANCTION TOURNEY BE EXCESSIVE?...I WOULD PREFER IT BE CHEAPER SINCE I LIVE IN TULSA AND HAVE THE COMMUTE...I WOULD STILL PLAY IF I FOUND A PARTNER...

... ah yes , the "Murph" ... one of them catz that truly exemplifies that rare "Okie Doubles Spirit" ... just "GRAB A PARTNER and HIT THE DANCE FLOOR" ...
.
.
... also ,
.
.
... in response to some calls and messages ; we ABSOLUTELY always have "Coed" or "Mixed" Divisions of competitive Fun ... Click and I always play that note by ear ... if there is Way Too Much difference of skills-levels in Male/Female Team entries ; we split it up to a "Mixed-Pro Teams" -and- a "Mixed-Am" , so to speak ... it's ALL ABOUT THE FUN ...
.
.
... p.s. , Murph ... I doan do 'facebook' ... they told me "my mug doesn't qualify" ... hmmm ... maybe if I shave ... ??? ...

Here's another idea for a format: Use the innova ript cards for a round. Force your opponent to throw a mini on an upcoming drive, throw with the opposite hand, etc.

Paul didnt you play intermediate last year too???
Big difference!!
1. I was barely doing decent in Advanced last year at Okie Doubles time...
2. My partner was playing intermediate at that time... Decent advance + good intermediate = we got 3rd place...
3. Bubba was like a junior world champ and I have played with him enough to know he could be playing pro
4. I am playing pro this year with the same partner as last year and he doesn't even play much... (our goal = lots of fun :D )
SO ... YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING... and yeah bubba should at least be playing Adv.. his partner has gotten better since last year too... NAHM SAYIN?

Me and Matt were going to play Advanced but I heard of so many teams playing advanced that should be playing pro I decided to stay in intermediate with a REC partner!
It's funny how people like James Hall and Don Cook can pair up and play Advanced and not hear a **** thing from people, but I decide to play Intermediate with a Rec player and I hear a lot of BS! (Not just on the board but from people around the course)
I planned on moving up to Pro after Am Worlds but after it was all said and done I realized my mental game was nowhere near what it needs to be for me to play pro, I costed myself double digit strokes just missing the 15-20 footers because I would talk myself out of them when I got behind my lie!

Nothing personal Bubba, but I call
[email protected]#
[email protected], if you look at your scores last year to the top 8 scores in Adv you were right there. Your best shot scores alone would have put you in 5th place in Adv. and your overall score put you in 3rd. I think you guys can compete. The 3rd place team from last year is playing open. The 8th place team is moving up a division but the second place is staying put?? Do you feel you have to win it to move up??? Your good enough to compete with those guys!
Here are the top 8 scores from last year and your scores bubba!!!
MA1 Don Cook 45 46 46 39 176 $194.00
Larry Gardner
MA1 Chris Schrader 41 45 50 42 178 $174.00

See ya there, Coda.
jgeurin
Aug 28 2009, 09:34 AM
Well, I was thinking that I should take Coda's advise and play up. I have an advanced partner, so it seems only right that I should play in the Advanced division. Sounds like it will be about the same as playing intermediate anyway, if this thread is any indication.
But . . . let me throw this out there for discussion . . . if my rating is 910 and my partner's is 942 that averages out to 926, which is obviously less than 935, right. So would it be kosher for us to sign up in intermediate?
This makes as much sense to me as advanced + rec = intermediate anyway.
16670
Aug 28 2009, 10:04 AM
Bubba if you think people dont give me crap for playing advanced then your delusional.but if you look at my 10 years worth of ratings you will see the highest my rating has ever been 959 in 2002..well 50 lbs and many injuries later(i used to throw a 350 ft tomahawk, now it hurts to raise my arm over my head)i know i may be mentally better now but physicaly im not even close(get married, eat well, live happy)
Now James on the other hand is on an upswing but mentally hes a wreck (i can say 2-3 sentences before the round to James and guarantee him shoot badly)
The method i used to see if we should /could play advanced was take both our ratings 957/981 divide by 2.i came up with 969(which is right at the advanced line)
So Bubba(or anyone wanting to play in a division),if your ratings place you in advanced
and your partner is a true rec player then i wouldnt see a problem with you being in intermediate.we do have to play an alternate shot / tough shot round which will highlight the weaker players and level the playing field.

That's the same method I used to figure out what me and my partner should play and people still have to *****....Oh so and so moved up....well good for them get off my nuts!
People keep saying you should be playing pro.....probably right....BUT I still want an Advanced World title....screwed up my frist try and now I want to try it 1 more time before I say screw it and play pro!

Bubba, all I am saying is you guys would have cashed in adv last year. I am just talking about this tournament, and I am not telling you to play pro for this tournament nor any other. If you play as well or better than you did a year ago you should be in the mix for adv. I think you can play in adv and cash if you play as well or better than last year, but who knows what kind of scores will be turned in this year. Is your partner really a rec golfer shooting +par golf on all courses? Rec rating is 900 or less. You got 2nd last year and would have cashed in adv, why should you not move up to adv? Once again do you feel you have to win it before you move up?? More crap to come later!!
Oh and don which hole do you have to have a 350 tomahack on??? My shoulder is shot and I can only throw one 250 with a tailwind.

so rating + rating / 2 is the formula used to place teams in divisions? by that theory i could play with a 1000 rated golfer in advanced, almost intermediate, some how i think people would be rather enraged about that :P singles ratings mean nothing in doubles IMO, i suck horribly in singles tournaments, im the king of choke. but put me with say, coda in a doubles tournament in advanced and id put my life savings on us blowing people out of the water :P doubles is its own monster, you put a 850 rated player that makes bad golf choices, but can throw a disc well, or putt like an allstar, and add that to an experianced golf pro or top advanced, and you have a devistatingly good result. People will bag, thats just how it is, hell if i go ill play intermediate, cause i already know adv will be won by two pros, thats just how doubles tournaments are, but im sure ill be called a bagger even if i get my arse beat :P

If everyone played the same divisions as they do singles, then there would be no bagging. Letting players that regularly play Pro and cash drop down to Adv, well thats something that should be handled by the TDs of the event. If they allow it, then there should be no biatching no matter what division you play.
At least in Tulsa we let you play one round then select your division.:D

this coming from the guy who won the usdgc spot over pro players..as determined by ratings..what was that final average 990 what.
with that said paul i still think your an advanced player..a very good advanced player with a good future in the pro ranks but not a pro at this point.
mutt how far out would myself and larry g have finished in pro last year?
the tomahawk i used to be able to throw i used on holes 3,6,9,11,12,13,15 at dolese shorts
i dont throw any now because i have to hold my arm like a gimp for the next 9 holes.

so lets specify here...
I'm saying you guys should play pro for an UNsanctioned, DOUBLES tournament... not saying you should play pro period.. James is taking cash now and freaking almost won at dolese just two weeks ago... you are a solid advanced player... Why not play open?? Honestly...
why would a person (james) playing pro and cashing high in tournaments move down to advanced to bag?
I averaged 1000 for 4 tourneys to get that spot, not 990! And yes I would agree with you 100% that I am a solid advanced player playing in the pro division now... I wouldn't argue against that at all. Ive been playing sanctioned only since 2008, but I moved up to push myself and try to make myself be a better golfer (something more of you should do, IMO), and somehow have managed to be in the "cash" in all 5 open tournaments i have played.. so it seems to be going alright
like Coda said... it is unsanctioned.. a good chance for you guys to move up and test the waters...
but i guess winning a few discs is better than challenging your team, and still having a good time playing with some quality golfers
can't wait for the awards ceremony "BAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGERS!"

Paul I agree with alot of what you said. But as far as testing the waters I have played pro before and prob will again from time to time .But back in the day when disc golf was #1 in my life and I had asperations of greatness.I was very serious when I played ,very angry, prob. a complete jack--- to be around most of the time on the course,or at least if I was playing badly.Somewhere along the way I kinda stepped back and looked at it and realized what I loved (discgolf) was making me miserable over half the time I did it.Before you could find me at the course every day practicing, putting at home, going to a field to throw ,etc.
Now when I play tournies or minis and I see an up and coming dger getting mad, flipping out, kicking there bag,I just chuckled to myself and think upon angrier days.
I dont play pro because im not a pro I dont practice like a pro, think like a pro,or care like a pro
I would catagorize James much the same as I would you Paul (and I think you would too)Hes a very good advanced player playing pro,I believe he will be a good pro,but at this point hes prob cashed less in pro than you?
Mutt its all good man I never took anything you said personal. But keep trying ill let you know:)

So if travis wouldnt have hit the putt on 18 last year for the win it and you guys won it in a playoff would you move up or would you still be using the same excuse to stay down? 1 stroke last year makes the difference in which division you play in this year? Maybe your partner could use some comp to make his game better?? maybe hes better than a rec player and your hiding behind him??

Holy Schnikes...!!! I dont even know where to begin or end...Baggers, Baggers and Baggin everywhere!!!! I think the only safe divisions to play in are pro fields and adv masters. Next year in the am1, 2,and 3 they should play one round of best shot at each course then flight it, and if the top ams are competing with the pros scores then bump them up.....That is the only answer I can see, cause it is only seems to be getting worse.
I can say I am glad bubba didnt get banned by the hall monitors! And in 07 to 08 they changed the ratings classification, that is why we played rec at GCD's twice. the second year Int changed and was 934 and less and I was below 900 rating at the time. This year I finished DFL in adv masters with only one other adv masters team the others were pro masters and pro grand that played down. In Okie doubs this is our 3rd year, 1st year we lost in a playoff in rec, finished 8th in inter to your 2nd last year and now playing adv masters (notice the moving up pattern???).
Oh and 298 players total WHEW!!! way too cool!!

The way Jeremy and I played we would have not been top 5 in intermediate so we definetely might have been out of our league in the BAGGER loaded advanced division.
That being said, I had a great time and look forward to Okie Doubles again next year. Mel and Shana are a riot if you ever get them on your card ! Congrads to the pro's Coda and Kyle. I don't know who did what after that.
Thanks to all of your time and dedication you put into this event W. Forest and M. Click. Also to all the sponsers and Carla Barton (owes Jeremy and I free entry to Dec. Bristow tourney.)
With new Tds next year ?? we might want to find a way to prevent people from bagging based on ratings. Such as if you have a pro rating an advanced rating on the same card, Guess what YOUR PRO. This could work for all divisions based on current pdga ratings format.

If the baggers in advanced were the reason you didnt do better how many of the teams that beat you were baggers..20? 25?
its funny that no one on the first 3 cards(12 teams)thought anyone was bagging since all our scores were within 4/5 strokes after 3 rounds
and after all the talk about "Don and James"the running joke was "who was suposed to be the pro on that team" 4 way tie for 3rd later we still dont know:)

Thanks to all the teams who played OPEN... Playing with Coda and Wilkes and the MAC's was truely another honor. Wilkes was the putting CHAMP.. multiple times banging home 40+ footers to keep him and Coda on top. Gunner and Mitch ... that is just self explanatory.. they are two GREAT golfers and to go out and compete with them was both fun and challenging. They finished Dolese best shot -9 on the back nine holes, including Gunner's ace on 18 to lose by only 1 stroke! Such a good finish. This tourney will be in my memory banks for a long time.

Congrats to Coda and Kyle! Again!
Got to see 2 aces. Well, saw one by Gunner and heard the scooby ace by Jared from the teebox. Amazing shot. Wish I could have seen the tough-shot ace on hole 2 as well.
We didn't make off with any Okie money, sorry to say, but Anthony and I had a lot of fun hanging with disc golf lovers in OKC. Amazing really that it ran basically on time with nearly double the crowd I would have expected to be there.
Thanks Clicks and Wayne.
It was great to finally play with Paul, who has taken time in his brief career to learn lots of shots. And his 25-footer was there all day Saturday. I was impressed. Keep up the good work, dude.
I would vote for only one best shot round in the Open Division, especially on that layout. The ace runs are fun I guess, but all the other formats require a little more strategy and ability to make shots from bad spots.
We all get enough best-shot doubles in minis or rounds the night before tournaments. For ams or baggers, they can probably make good use of best shot rounds.
A whole round of alternate goes really fast and maybe a round with tough shot for 9 and worst score for 9.
Not a complaint at all about the 2009 event, just a thought.
