Here to report some unfortunate news.
The family and I went down to the annual fireworks display that is held in Sand Springs, near the river.
As you may know, Chris Wagle operates this show every year and has been kind enough to let us come down and see it from ground zero.
Well there was an accident this evening and Chris was injured, we are not exactly sure about the severity of the wound but i do know some rough details.
A large section of fiberglass tubes was secured by a wooden frame, and Wagle was lighting these partiular fireworks when suddenly nearly the entire section blew up.
Chris hobbled away from the fireworks and the rescue truck was brought over, shortly followed by an ambulance and firetruck.
Heather rode in the ambulance and they took him to Hillcrest.
Keep Wagle and Heather in your thoughts....
And post any updates you hear....here.

Worker injured at Sand Springs fireworks celebration
By Staff Reports

A worker at the Sand Springs Independence Day Celebration was injured when a fireworks shell malfunctioned Friday night.
The worker, who was among the crew that was setting off the fireworks, was rushed from River City Park, where the celebration was taking place, to Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa.
Another worker, who did not identify himself or the private company that was providing the display, said a 4-inch shell exploded too soon.
A 28-year-old man was taken to the hospital in fair condition, EMSA spokeswoman Tina Wells said.
Chris Wolf, an area resident who was at the fireworks show, said viewers saw a shell explode near the ground and then saw a lot of smoke. "It was like something you'd see in the air, except it happened on the ground," he said.
The remainder of the show was cancelled.

As Andrew posted we were maybe 100 feet from the explosion.
Chris was doing his typically awesome job of lighting the fireworks with a flair. He has to light them so fast he never even sees them go off, dedication.
My guess is he was about 60% through when all of a sudden a huge explosion went off. We saw Chris hopping away from the scent on, it looked, like his right leg. He did a half circle and ended up back behind the main area.
Dead silence, we all just stopped breathing for a minute because it looked really bad. This could have killed him so easily. There was a small Sand Springs firetruck parked pretty close. They pulled up and we couldn't see what was going on. Heather had rushed over there and we were sitting with some other family members, including his 2 year old nephew Ian.
Heather came back over after awhile and described his injury as a big hole in his leg, she said it was bad.
I think they later decided that as the fiberglass tubes blew up they and the wood crate they were in basically threw shrappnel into Chris's leg, so it was more of a cut/slice injury.
As Joe said, it sucks when something bad happens to people as nice and giving as the Wagles.
As bad as it is, trust me we could all be meeting at a funeral instead of offering our best wishes..
VERY close call...

wagle is home . his wife has taken a week off to help take care.
chris said he is home bound and goin nuts.
visits will be appriciated.
i asked if we can do anything to help . he responded that they have everything under control, but wouldn't turn away any meals with visitors.
she has done some grocery shopping and likes to cook, but i'm sure shes very busy taking care of chris, and could use a break from normal chores etc.

From Heather....
Thank you EVERYONE for the prayers and well wishes and just calling to check up on my hubby!! We are very blessed to have you all as friends!!
Like the Treats said...things could have been ALOT worse and we are very thankful to have the injuries over the alternative. We went to a general surgeon today and he took a look at the stitch job...he said that the docs in the ER did an excellent job of sewing him back together. 2moro we go see an orthopetic surgeon and he will determine if surgery is needed to reconstruct the muscles and tendons in his leg.....keep your fingers crossed they did a good enough job in the ER...
All in all...we are doing well. I just spend my days chasing him around...watching him tear up our house with those crutches (the crutches are taller than me...haha) Chris really likes all of the phone calls...He's already moping he can't play golf since it's so nice out. He is about to go stir crazy!!!

We went to the surgeon today to get the stitches removed and recieved some bad news...
The surgeon says that the wound is not healing properly because there is not an adequate supply of blood flowing to the wound in order for it to heal naturally. So....what this boils down to is...SURGERY!!! Chris will have surgery to remove the entire wound and basically start all over. This is going to be a LONG, PAINFULL process with several skin graphs along the way. So he's going to be down and out for months...=(
Again..we would like to thank all of you for your prayers and coming by to visit when you can. We are blessed with amazing friends!!

That is bad news but after actually seeing the accident, it could have been way worse.
At least he has his hands, eye sight etc etc..
Chris is a tough guy with a great wife and family, everyone will work through this set back..

I don't think so. It looks more like the result of some blind person hooking up at the bar and accidentally locking their "Seeing-Eye" dog out of the bedroom.:)
That face should come with the "Don't Try this at Home" disclaimer.
Probably the main reason the Government decided to start subsidizing Planned Parent Hood.

Well I'm sure your mother was a good person considering she took you in after you had been rejected at every other doorstep in the village.:)
