I was reading about the low percentage of college graduates in Major League Baseball (2.5%) http://ncaabasketball.fanhouse.com/2009/06/29/racial-paternalism-and-college-sports and I was wondering what our percentage of college grads might be among our PDGA World Ranked players. It would appear to be pretty good based on the PDGA demographic document indicating 55% of our members have a college and even advanced degree: http://www.pdga.com/files/documents/DiscGolfDemographics.pdf

If one takes age into account (i.e. not counting those too young to have graduated from college), the percentage of college grads is greater than 62%.

hopefully, this number decreases as the number of people able to support themselves solely from disc golf increases. i am not sure it is as much of a positive as some might like to spin.

One could make the case that the PDGA should currently restrict players from turning pro until age 21 because they can't expect to make a living as a pro at this point. Then, if there is a "big money" future at some point in this sport, relax the guidelines back to 18 like the NHL and MLB where college graduation is not a consideration.

55% of pDGA members have a college degree? You display your incomplete grasp of statistics if you believe that number (how embarassing). What a farce. It might be 55% of the people that actually responded to the survey but there is no way in Hades that stat is even remotely accurate.
What flavor is the Kool-Aid this week Chuck?

Next you'll tell me you believe 47% of pDGA members have a houshold income over 50k.
Propaganda, brought to you by the pDGA survey. Who needs facts when you can make stuff up and no one will question it?

Chuck, did you ever hear of cognitive bias? I didn't think so.
Here's a fun exercise for you Chuck. See if you can determine what percentage of these 127 types of cognitive bias you practice on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis at disc golf websites across the world:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Cognitive_biases
I'll start! This thread is a textbook example of apophenia: the experience of seeing patterns or connections in random or meaningless data.

Yes, there's bias since it wasn't a random sample where responses were forced (my MBA was in market research). But assuming that there's bias, which is perfectly reasonable, that bias also exists among demographic surveys in other sports. It would seem that all the numbers and stats might be inflated in a similar manner. We would still come out looking pretty good in comparison whatever the true stats might be.

You know what I like about you Chuck? You not only do not apologize for misleading the public, you're doggone proud of it. You have truly earned your place atop the sycophantic pDGA pyramid scheme. Geithner, Paulson and Bernanke would be so proud.
Is your middle name Goebbels? Chuck Goebbels Kennedy, definitely has a ring to it.

Mikey, you have to learn how to read mo' betta. If you or the public was mislead, it's only from not reading my original post where I was wondering what our stats were, not that I knew anything other than the self selective member survey. Regardless, there's a big gap between the 2.5% for MLB and our potentially inflated 55%. What do you think the real number is among our top 100? Maybe 15-20%?

As a thanks for your continued unintentionally hilarious statistical musings, I will guess at your question and say 20%. Does that fall into your undefined "pretty good" range?
I'll also venture that more than 20% of the top 100 ranked disc golfers have eaten out of a dumpster while less than 2.5% of MLB players have.
40% of the pDGA staff is overpaid while 60% of the pDGA staff is grossly overpaid.

I suspect there may be more than 2.5% dumpster divers at some point in their lives among some of the Caribbean members of the MLB before their big break.
I think those college degrees and the daily challenge "herding cats" justify those modest wages PDGA staffers earn.

I've got to hand it to you Chuck, I do kind of admire your ability to get paid for your talent to make up things that disc golfers believe. You kinda remind me of Doug Henning
