Although specifics are still being worked out I wanted to float the date for potential conflicts. I'm looking to host a fun filled disc golf camping extravaganza the weekend of October 30th - November 1st. I checked the PDGA schedule and there are (2) events in Texas that weekend. 100 holes of hell in Red Rock and The Venterans tourney in Arlington. Although Ventrans is a sweet event and we will likely lose a couple of people who go play in that one, I still think it is a good weekend. The weather should be great for camping. Please le me know if you think this is a good weekend.

sounds great dude. . . i am excited to see what might turn out.
Any ideas for activities while we are out there. . . maybe a little 9 hole disc golf course, volleyball, ultimate frisbee. . . etc

9 hole course? I was thinking more along the lines of a custom designed course (by the club staff) for an 18 hole course with minis and night frolf.

There is also FREE fishing at all Texas State Parks (no license required). Stacey and I caught some nice bass last year while we were out there. This park is awesome and I can't wait to go back. Great idea Scott!!! ;)

Who: SADC Club Members, Family, & Friends
What: SADC Camping Extravaganza
Where: Garner State Park
When: October 30th - November 1st

Basically it will be a group camping event. The park is beautiful and is only 90 miles from SA. As Orlando mentioned the Rio Frio runs through the park and creates some great fishing opportunities. Also the park has stands of mature trees in the camping area so we'll be able to setup a temp course for some really fun golfing events. The park is also great for biking and hiking and has its own mini putt putt ball golf course. This is one event you will not want to miss.

I'll post all of the specifics about how to get signed up next week.

FAQs

How long should I stay?
Event organizers will arrive by 10:00 AM on Friday October 30th and will depart on Sunday November 1st. Some event organizers may arrive on Thursday October 29th. SADC sponsored events will begin at around 4:15 PM Friday October 30th and run through the morning of Sunday November 1st. Participants are encouraged to come out anytime during this timeframe.

What will there be to do?
SADC will be sponsoring many activities which are still being planned out. Those activities are likely to include mini tournaments, night golf, bike rides, & hikes. All activities will be free; this event is just to have fun!

Its Halloween Weekend, what about the family & kids?
Bring them, we can always do trick or treating at the park!

How much will it cost?
Costs vary depending on how long you stay and what type of camp site you reserve. A one night stay will cost $10 - $20, a two night stay will cost $20 - $40, & a three night stay will cost $30 - $60.
$20/night screened shelter
$15/night water & electric tent site
$10/night water only tent site

How do I sign up?
All participants are required to reserve their own campsites with the Texas Parks & Wildlife Park Reservation Department at (512) 389-8900. Garner is a very popular park and you are encouraged to make your reservations as soon as possible to secure your spot. Since this is a SADC sponsored event we're encouraging everyone to reserve campsites in same general area. This will help when we setup the temp course through the campsites. Club members should reserve camp sites in the River Crossing and/or Shady Meadows Camping Areas. These areas are within walking distance of the river, rest rooms, & showers. They sit in a groove of medium and old growth trees perfect 18 - 36 holes.
Note: When reserving camp sites at Garner you cant actually reserve a specific site. You can reserve a type of site, then sites are given out on a first come, first serve basis based on arrival. As a result we recommended getting to the park early on your arrival day to secure a prime spot.

In addition to making your reservation with the park, were also asking that you contact Scott Hougland with your reservation information. Scott will be coordinating with the Park Staff and event organizers. Understanding how many people will be there will help us better understand how to plan activities. Scotts contact info is below.

I'm second guessing Holloween weekend after a couple of people express they have family obligations that weekend. I want as many people as possible to attend so I am open to selecting a different weekend if that works best. Thoughts?

Don't forget there is FREE fishing at Garner State Park (NO Fishing License Required). Stacey and I went last year in October and caught around 10-15 Largemouth Bass that were all 15 inches or a little bigger. These Bass were healthy. I can't wait to get some lines back in the Frio. We are going to take our deep fryer with us and have some fresh fish if we get lucky again this year.:D

I don't think the lady knew what she was talking about. She sounded bry confused when I said disc golf she said we don't have a golf course. I said no not golf, disc golf or frisbee golf. I don't think she got it. I'll have time to kill on Thursday so I might just head up there and see what I can find.

Also those camping bring some shower supplies. They have a VERY NICE shower setup at the park.

Also, you probably won't be able to call me out there, the reception is spotty at best. I'll be at the New River Crossign camp group in one of the screened shleters. Look for the Texas Disc Golf Flag

Looks like we'll have a lot of baskets out there but can always use more. If you are coming out and have a basket, please bring it.

Jerry Chesterson is bringing 4 baskets (one is riding w/ Corey)
BWARE is bringing 2 baskets
Bird is bringing 1 basket

That's a minimum of 7, which we'll easily be able to setup a 21 hole course on! Can't wait for some Saturday night Glow golf! Bring your lose change for WOLF!

You never know....I'll do some quality control;) later this week and see how the taste and carbonation are. I'll also have some extra fishing rods with me so if you don't have one come and see me and I'll hook you up. See everyone on Saturday morning.

Great time this weekend. I only wish more of you could have made it. It was a blast!

We had 14 people come out for the trip. This event will definately be a recurring one. Maybe we can switch it to a different park next year ... or maybe not. Garner is awesome this time of year.

My vote is to have it again at Garner.
That place was perfect for a temp course camping extravaganza.

All thanks go to Scott for organizing this outing!:)
