13!!!!

Well I am going to make this official

The 13th Mr. Jim's Carrollton Open

September 12-13, 2009

the all new Jimmy Porter and Greenbelt parks.

Entry will be on Titledisc very soon.

Titledisc will be helping again this year with sign ups and scoring leaving me to worry about other things.

Doubles will be at the NEW Jimmy Porter Disc golf course.
Friday flex tee times till dark.

This will give those that want to play the tournament a chance to play the new course.

I will be posting more information as I work on it.

But the Rumors are not true, there WILL be the 13th Mr. Jim's Carrollton open come RAIN, shine or Hurricane. :D

I have not been playing all that long, but Mr Jim's has added some highlights to my career.

1. The leather band on my hat mixed with 100 degree heat apparently burned my forehead...gross
2. Last years Hurricane...wow...that was nuts.
3. I think the year before was a crazy torrential downpour as well...not sure.
4. I tore something in my arm at the last one to make it turn black and blue...no golf for me for about 6 weeks after that.

THANK YOU SIR...MAY I HAVE ANOTHER!!!

I love hearing about the fun people have had.

I don't know if too many of you were playing back then, but in 98' (if I remember correctly) we had a hell of a storm blow in on Saturday, the wind was so strong I know of several people who had discs land behind there throws. I actually had a Jr. Womens division that quit playing during the round because they lost all there discs in the creek.

then on Sunday, the sun came out and all was good.
__________________________________________________ ______

then we had the flood a few years ago where we started late, not because of lighting or rain, but because you could not cross the creeks. I even moved hole #4 because the basket was in a lake.

But as usual, the flood waters receded rather quickly.

I will admit this, Josh and Deitre Dann are the reason last year went smooth and I would not have done this again without there help this year.

I have now caught up on paperwork at the store and will have to put politics on hold for the next 6 weeks. (well, limited politics)

the charity will be Troop 114 again this year. I have already talked with them about keeping us hydrated.

don't forget, you too can sponsor a hole, only $25 and I will put just about anything you want on the Tee-sign. Rag on your friends, tribute someone or leave it blank, that does not matter to me, I just need the sponsorship.

For those that may no know, the sponsorship helps pay for all the players packages. Even though the PDGA tells me to pull the money out of the payout, I DON'T.

Help me out.

Pizza God
Aug 29 2009, 08:03 PM
I think we should.

As the Record holder for Greenbelt and the Old Jimmy Porter, what is your opinion?

BTW, the course was designed to be played that way. It does make the course a lot tougher.

I have not checked, have they moved #11 yet, it was going to be from the bridge with the basket in the trees with the sidewalk on one side of the fairway and the fence on the other side. This would be a better hole than the first #11 and should result in fewer discs being thrown over the fence.

There will be 6 or 7 of us from Okc there!

Pizza God

There has not been a sanctioned tournament there yet. This will be the first one.

I have a feeling the course record set for the tournament will be under 50 (for 21 holes)

For the 18 hole layout, a team has already shot 17 down in doubles.

I will have the 3 extra holes in the ground by this weekend. (the same old three across the street from Tee 2)

Did the Lone Star Inn right off the highway in Carrollton change to a Red Roof Inn?

I can't find any website for Lone Star Inn so I searched for the phone number on Yellowpages.com and on there is a link to the LSI website and it brings me to the Red Roof Inn website!

Lone Star Inn - 972-245-1700 (I actually knew that one off the top of my head) Not bad, use to be the host motel back when it was a Red Roof Inn (3rd choice)

Other Carrollton Area Motels

Off 35
Roadway Inn - 972-245-9900 not a bad place (1st choice)
Delux Inn - 972-446-2727 conveniently located like Roadway, but not all that great
Guest Inn 972-242-6404 - not great
Royal Inn 972-446-8366 - stay away (worst motel in the area)
Best Value Inn (Farmers Branch) 972-241-8521 - Not that good
Days Inn 972-488-0800 - not bad
La Quinta Inn 972-620-7333 - not bad
Comfort Inn (Farmers Branch) 972-406-3030 - not bad (2nd choice)
Econo Lodge 972-243-5500 where the truckers stay

The rest of the motels in the area are in the Addison Area.

The cheaper of those are

Super 8 972-233-2525
Motel 6 972-386-4577
Best Value Inn (Addison) 972-770-0070
Quality Inn & Suites 972-991-8888

The rest are a little more expensive, I would look them up on line.

I use Orbitz.com when I travel personally.

The cheapest motels come up in Lewisville, that is about 15-20 min away. you would save more than $10 per night up there.

well I was up till 3am last night getting things ready.

I am unable to find the 3 collars for the carrollton baskets. I did have 6 for the ABC holes that are in the ground right now. So I will have a temp hole in place on #18 at Jimmy Porter on Saturday and Sunday.

I am going out to walk Jimmy Porter right now and check out the construction on 8,9 and 10. I also need to make a ruling on OB and casual relief for those holes.

Tomorrow morning I will make go print the Doubles score cards and be out at Jimmy Porter no later than 3pm for Doubles.

I plan on putting out sponsor signs before Doubles. I am going to put sponsor signs out at Greenbelt on Saturday Morning because the kids steal them on Friday every year.

If you are going to greenbelt to practice, remember we use long tee's for #7 and #9.

Oh, we will be using the Adv tee on #12 at Jimmy Porter, that is the hole that crosses the pond.

However, if there is no water in the pond, it is NOT OB, If it rains and there is water in the Pond, it will be OB.

Ok, they have finished the work on #8 and #9 so that is not an issue.

However they will be working on the erosion control around the bridge both Friday and Saturday. It does not effect the green, but they parked a dump truck in the fairway today.

We will play the regular hole for doubles tomorrow (hopefully)

But on Saturday, we may move the tee box over to the other side of the trees to make it a hyzer hole or put it back in the Am position for the straight shot again.

The doubles mini-event on Friday is best disc. The value of doubles payout depends on how many people show up to play doubles. Keep in mind that you're talking about the unsanctioned doubles warmup before the main event. The main event is the sanctioned singles tournament Saturday and Sunday.

I should be joining Bryan at the course tomorrow around 5:30-5:45p. *Please* get your registrations in online or in person on Friday. Showing up the morning of the event to register really slows the whole process down and could make all of the other players wait longer than necessary.

See you all this weekend!

Just left the course.

Hole 16 had water up to the bottom of the basket, the last 4 cards came in to ask what to do. I told them the last 2 card played the hole in the water and they could also or I would refund due to high water.

2 pro teams and 1 am team took there entry fee back.

The other Pro Team was
Brad Williams and JD Ramirez.

So MY ruling was, they could throw the shot and play it where it splashed down in the water.

JD threw his shot about 15-20ft short of the basket and Brad ran over to the spot it went in and made the putt.

On 17, JD threw his disc in the creek (which is about 50ft wide at this point) and Brad was laid up about 60ft on the tee side of the drainage ditch.

Brad banged the basket and JD put it in for the Bird.

Then on the last hole they made yet another bird.

So Brad and JD won with -19, they missed #1 and #9

I will post everyone's scores in a bit.

Is there a plan B for holes that may be unplayable during the next two days?

We will have to make that call tomorrow.

I may cut out (read as skip) holes that tend to flood.

#4 at Greenbelt and #16 at Jimmy Porter would be the first two.

At least crossing the creek is not an issue anymore. And really the only time any holes are unplayable is when the creek goes over its banks.

The only hole that was unplayable tonight was #16 at Jimmy Porter, I don't know if any other holes were unplayable.

I don't worry about the creek as much as the lighting. If I had the horn tonight, I would have blown it to bring those crazy disc golfers in. We will not play a PDGA event with lighting.

If worse case happens and we can't get all 4 rounds in, then we will play 3 or 2 rounds. (we need to get at least 2 rounds in)

So far, I have never had to call a round at the Carrollton Open, I have a feeling tomorrow may be the first.

If less than 110 players play, we will just have everyone play the same flight.

BTW, I am making the call right now, Am's will get to pick there own plastic again for putting up with the rain and mud.

Are we still well below the 110 player mark?

I like the idea of all players playing the same course!

We are currently around 65 or 67, I forgot to post it earlier and I don't have that with me at the moment.

There are pro's and con's to all playing the same course.

If split up, the rounds will go faster

But everyone playing together is easier to run.

Ok, I walked and marked Greenbelt before I went home tonight.

The creek are currently within there banks, however the area of 4,5,6, were a lake at one time today. Someone is going to have to clean out #3, #4, #9 and I didn't check #5 or #6. #8 was in water, but not up to the basket.

Just to remind everyone, Water outside of the banks of the creek is casual water. You play it from where it went it lies. This may be an issue if we get another strong storm like that.

See you die heart Disc Golfers in the morning.

No, I don't have the scores. But I did get off the phone with Josh and he is just about ready to post them.

What a day, even the TD quit trying to keep dry by this afternoon, it was a loosing battle. I am soaked to the bone right now.

Just to the thank the 86 golfers who played the course today. I cleaned up the course after everyone left and really did not find any trash. THANK YOU, that was the cleanest It has ever been in the 13 years we have played that course.

For those of you who have not played the Carrollton Open, in the final round, we will have a CTP hole PER CARD. EVERY CTP will be worth at least $50 or more in prizes.

Michael Brownlow has hit the only ACE so far.

#5 at Greenbelt, if no one hits an Ace tomorrow, he will take all $1000 for himself.

Ok, for some reason the PDGA did not have my paperwork.

It has been resent today (when they informed me they didn't have it)

I don't know if it was a case of and email getting lost, or did I pay my fees and forgot to send it.

Either way I am awaiting confirmation they received right now.
