Yeah, I'm looking forward to losing a half-dozen discs so I can justify trying out some new ones.
I hope a lot of folks are just procrastinating on the registration. It's too good a course to miss out on.

After playing so far 6 Advanced tournaments for 2009 (I haven't played advanced in 3-4 years) I think I've now accrued 20 or so new discs that haven't been thrown and are extra's to what I carry in my bag. I have just a couple alternate discs that I will one day get around to trying out. I'm going out hoping not to lose ANY discs. I haven't lost a disc in quite a long time and for the 1st time am playing every tournament with the same discs so it's starting to help out....All discs in bag are broken in and fly just like I like them and aren't getting anymore beat in where they are changing flight paths.
BUT if I do start losing discs or anybody needs to borrow any b/c they have lost some or don't have enough I carry about 50+ discs with me at all times. about 20 used discs that fly very similar to what I carry in my bag but just haven't been used in a couple years. (in my car not carrying during a round)
Heading down Thursday at noon!!! Can't WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stack, you coming down??? You have some points in the SC Point series you need to catch back up to me on!

The Charleston Disc Golf Club has put in many hours in preparing Trophy Lakes for this event. We have completed tee pad work, cleaned the greens and fairways and completed 2 new greens that you may want to take a picture of before you leave. 2 strokes have been added to the course and there are several new tee pads that will challenge all players.
There is a players party at Trophy Lakes following the second round.
This weekend should be a great tournament.

Is anyone going to be available Friday to play an early round with if David doesn't make it in time or is the course pretty easy to make your way around?

Thanks, Jonas. Looks like a few interesting changes on 16 & 17.
What's the going bribe to get my card to start on the near side of the lake? (Or....has anyone considered a ferry for folks starting on holes 10-14?)

Mike---have you never played Trophy Lakes?

David, they are now gnarley holes for sure. Just wait until you see the basket on #16 and the rope on #16.
Holes 6, 10, 11, and 17 all have drop zones at the Red tee pad for shots that go into the water on the drive or any other shot. Players have the option of playing standard OB rules also on these holes.

ROPE?
I just figured someone was offended that a player like me could write a "2" on my scorecard (old #17), and decided to fix it. How far is to carry the water from the blue tee on the new #17? Longer or shorter than #6?
I hope one day there's a gold tee for #6, so people with real arms can sweat the crossing as much as I do.
I am assuming, and hoping, that Advanced Masters will still be playing from the blue tees.

Thanks for the map and info Jonas... looking forward to getting back out to Trophy (been too long).
Will the layout be mixed between the blues/reds?
and 17 long just looks like a thumber! ;)

17 is about the same as 6 to carry. It is a little tough to carry #11 blues, 340 feet-ish depending on the wind speed and direction.
I think Open and Advanced are all playing Blue-Blue-Drink-Blue-Red, but I am not 100% sure about the Advanced Women and Advanced Grand master. We will have all that on the hand-out for the player's meeting.

I'm starting to feel that I had wishful thinking thinking my discs would stay dry all 4 rounds,,,can't wait to play course!~

I once played a 787-rated round there without losing a disc, which is amazing to think a person could throw that badly, but not hit water more than a few feet from shore. Actually, it's amazing someone could throw that badly, period.
Last year I sank a half-dozen, but they had divers out there and I think all of them eventually made it back to me.
But I definitely recommend carrying spares.
For anyone who hasn't played Trophy Lakes, the design uses water in clever ways. Not just "drive across water to basket on other side", or "water along one side of the fairway", as you see many places. There are places to choose how much water you want to risk carrying, and places where the water starts 200' off the tee, so wimps can lay up.

Heading to course this a.m. Staying in Holiday Inn on Folly Beach. It's expensive as hell but WELL WORTH IT. This is a bad @$$ hotel! Hope I don't sink any discs b/c the ones in my bag are my babies!!!! Anyone that reads this before 9 a.m. can meet me out there since I have no clue where the hell I'd be going

They just put a couple million $$ into that hotel this past Winter. I hear it is nice.

$259/night. Yes it's very nice. No continental breakfast which I hate about upscale restaurants. Their restaurant is very high scaled and not the food I like. Played my 1st 18 on the course today. That back 9 is SICK! 16,17,18 kicked my butt. Stayed away from the water until 17 where I through 4 in a row in. Got 2 back. 1 that I lost was my baby. A beat in max that was perfect for LONG S turn Flicks and a very dependable overstable backhand that would clear 350 before fading left. The Tee is slick where the dirt is and I threw it straight in the air. Slipped about 2-3 feet

Eat breakfast at the Lost Dog just off Folly Rd near the Library, awesome breakfast burrito and coffee. Eat dinner at Taco Boy.
The natural tee pads can get tricky. Cleats or spikes help a lot.

I slipped on none but 17. I do have golf shoes with plastic spikes in the truck. May pull em out but on the rubber tee pads I think good shoes would do better.

Course looks awesome!!! Love the changes and you'd think its a country club with how good of shape its in... where are the golf carts?! ;)
MICHAELMART
Jun 06 2009, 07:52 PM
Amen to golf carts! My feet are throbbing. Not sure of all scores. Noteables are Mike Jo shooting an unbelievable 52 the first round. 1040+ rated no doubt. In the Advanced division 60 is hott round of day shot by Rick Stepp and any other I don't know about. Didn't hear of any. Rick Stepp and Scott Roushe are leading in advanced with a total of 124. 5 back from them are myself and Joe-e with 129. I hope I can get out and smoke it tomorrow as I just played fairly today.

Thanks, Lauren, for running a great tournament.
Oh, except the 9:15 shower Sunday morning.
The course changes made an excellent course even better. Hole 16 offers all kind of opportunities to make bad decisions.

Great TD!
Thanks for coming down guys and gal. THings went really well for the Team Chuck. I hope everyone had fun, feedback is always good.
See you in July for Kris Zahm's 2 events at Trophy Lakes, another excuse to camp out and play the best course ever.
See you in December for the Classic with 2 courses, Trophy Lakes and Hampton Park.
We'll try and do better with the water coolers and less rain next time.

Lauren & Jonas
Please convey our thanks also to the property owners for letting us play in their yard.
They certainly don't need us, and their generosity with their land makes possible such a terrific course and gave us the opportunity to spend a weekend playing it without the distractions of a public course....and for some people, the chance to camp as well.
