I agree I didn't like have to go through several pages of sign-ups. Also not to thrilled about no Am "Payout".

Hey Dave,
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate it. As in medicine, experimentation is part of the disc golf promotion learning process. Unfortunately, the shopping cart requires a log-in. We hoped that this would not be a drawback but we suspected that it would. Your note helps to confirm this. Hopefully, this limitation can be overcome for future events. We want folks to choose to use DGU because of its value, not because there is no other choice. I am sorry that the process took so long.
Take care,
Harold

Hey Chris,
Over the years, I've given the issue a good bit of thought. Keeping the entry fee low for ams, rewarding all amateurs through player packs (disc, shirt, lunch), and providing trophies to the top finishers continues to seem reasonable. I appreciate your feedback because it reminds me that there is a reasonable alternative to this approach. I look forward to seeing you in the mountains in July.
Take care,
Harold

Yeah I can understand that. I have always been more of the opposite with less players pack and more end reward for doing good. But I can see where that might not be fair to the local disc golfer that is playing there first tournament and might not have a chance to cash. For me it just takes a little of the fun out of doing a tournament knowing you don't really get anything at the end regardless of how you do.

Agree w/ Dr. Dave on the website but it was more of the fee thing for me but it seems to be par for the course now days.
On the no payout for Ams... love it! I personally would love to see trophy only for Ams as a rule for all PDGA events (but i'm sure that will never happen). $25 is reasonable for a disc, tshirt, lunch and the possibility to win a trophy if you play well. I would rather see small a $25 setup like this or even $15 for now players pack or maybe just a disc or something than have $35 or more and have the possibility to win a stack of plastic.
Originally coming from a running background (you pay $20 or more to run a race and maybe get a tshirt for entering and possibly a medal or something for finishing top 3 of 100 or more) I was amazed when I started playing disc golf that Ams got 'paid out' or expected something or felt entitled to a payout.
I digress ... Thanks for running this event and I'm looking forward to playing!

We have now passed 50 registrations. Thanks for all who have registered so far.
I also wanted to let everyone know that the High Country Throwdown is a Southern National event again this year. As one of the few SN events in the Carolinas, the Throwdown might be the easiest way for folks to become eligible for the Southern National Championships - traditionally one of the last USDGC Qualifiers each year.
Take care,
Harold

Great job on the tournament and course again Harold. The course looked great a week ago, and the Innova crew is up there making it even better this week. Can't wait to get back up to play it some more.

Played today and the course looked really good. I really liked what yall have done with some of the tee boxes in cleaning them up. The mulch on the landing area on hole #11 was also a big help.
Did get a ticket on 421 so be sure not to speed... :(

Several players have asked about camping. The park is allowing camping in the park on Friday and Saturday night. The price is $5 per person per night.
Camping in the park is a wonderful privilege for us. Let's make sure that we show our respect and appreciation so that we can continue to enjoy this privilege for years to come.

Thanks to all who have registered for the High Country Throwdown. Registration is now complete. We have a full field of 85 plus three on the waiting list - Josh Bracket, Ryan Pickens, and Nathan Watts. So that we can move forward with tournament preparation, we will not be taking additional names to the waiting list, and there will not be any Saturday registration.
Several players have asked about the course set-up. We will use the same arrangement as last year. The Lady Amateur and the Intermediate Amateurs will play shorts for the first two rounds and longs for the third round. For hole 3 in the third round, the ladies and the intermediate amateurs will tee from the drop zone pad near the edge of the lake. Advanced Amateurs, Advanced Master Amateurs and Pros will play longs for the first round, shorts for the second round, and longs for the third round. For all divisions: On the holes with two targets (8, 11, 17), the long tees will play to the long (blue) targets; the short tees will play to the short (yellow) targets.
Several players have also asked about camping or lodging. The park has graciously allowed for camping in the park on Friday and Saturday night. The cost is $5 per person per night. Campers please keep in mind that the park does not have shower facilities. For those interested in a hotel, try the Nations Inn (336) 246-2080. Please make plans ahead of time as summer is tourist time in the mountains of North Carolina.
If you have any questions on all, please feel free to e-mail Harold Duvall (harold.duvall@innovadiscgolf.com) or Paul Bergey (Paul.Bergey@innovadiscgolf.com) or call us at (800) 476-3968.
Thanks again for your support of disc golf in Ashe County.

Hey Dave,
I originally chose 90, but then I changed for two reasons. First, because Ashe County can be such a challenge and this was the first year with any fivesomes, I wanted to preserve some flexibility to assign foursomes where necessary. I also wanted to have a small waiting list yet avoid the check in hassle on Saturday morning that has seemed to plague events for the 25 years that I have played disc golf. 85 seemed like a target that would allow us to achieve both of these goals. We'll see.
Take care,
Harold

Oh yeah, don't forget warm and dry clothes and your rain gear. There is a slight chance for a thunder banger putting a damper on things. Believe it or not, it can also get pretty cold up here in the mountains even in the Summer time.

More sun than Thursday, a bit warmer; An isolated afternoon t-shower possible; SSE wind 5-15 mph
Saturday, Hi: 80 Lo: 62,

Not to mention the added cash for the distance competition. (congrats to lil wigg for winning that).

It was a great honor to see everyone up in the mountains enjoying the beautiful Ashe Co. Park DGC for yet another amazing THROWDOWN year! Congratulations to now the 2 time High Country Throwdown Champion, Jeremy "Everlast" Koling, and all the winners and survivors that withstood all the knock out blows this Champion INNOVA course can throw back at you. Fun and challenging are the two best words in my opinion to describe the experience.
The players packs/t-shirts, and trophy discs were awesome, the weather was perfect, the camping and fellowship was nice, the pond was cool, there was gatorade galor, and breakfast, lunch, and almost dinner provided for us all weekend for FREE! We even had a lemonade icy machine!
Special Thanks to all our tournament sponsors, INNOVA DISC GOLF, Ashe Co. Parks and Rec. dept., the High Country Disc Golf Club, The Coyote Kitchen and Ben Whitehead, Western North Carolina Disc Golf Club, Mtn. Disc Sports (Asheville), Disc Munkey, DGM (Disc Golf Mafia), Los Arcorisis Mexican Restaurant, Hobby Barn, and Bald Guy Brew.
I'd also like to thank all the volunteers and participants for coming out to help support this event and High Country Disc Golf!
Better go ahead and mark your calendars for next year, July 10th and 11th, 2010!!!

Makes it tough for me to buy 2 for myself and Lorelei, unless you want to put 2 aside until next years Event when I can pay you cash and pick them up. :(
Maybe I can give the cash to someone from your area who is going to Worlds next week.
Let me know if that could work for you, cause I was bummed when I found out they were for everyone at the Event except old pro guys.

Innova is helping us get more shirts done. So, I think once they are done, Henry could probably get one or two out to you. I also plan to come down and play Charlotte soon.
Just let me know what size(s) you want and we'll find a way to get them to you and take your money. Thanks for your support!
