We're finally ready to start ramping up for the Wilson Creek Challenge! This will be a two-day, four-round B-tier event using both the Alex Clark Memorial DGC and the new Towne Lakes DGC in McKinney, TX.
We will have two pools limited to 90 each - Pool A will consist of the Pro and Advanced divisions (including all sex- and age-protected versions thereof), Pool B will consist of all other divisions. Pool A will play the long layout at both courses on Saturday, Pool B will play longs at ACM, shorts at TL. On Sunday, we will start a bit earlier and both pools will play shorts at both courses. This will get us done and on the road faster - and get you all home sooner :)
And of course since it's a B-tier you know we'll have great payout and lots of added cash! Get signed up soon!

I'm not a big fan of a few of the new "features" of this board... They don't want you to bump threads, but everyone's defaults only show threads that have new posts from the last day. Silly.
Anyway, I wanted to let everyone know that we will have some WBDGW merchandise along with some sweet leftover Paul Giles Memorial merchandise available in McKinney! We bought up everything that Jerry and the Athens Club had left to help them break even on the weekend. So, we get to offer some unique discs to folks who didn't get a chance to make it to Athens last weekend.
Sponsorships are still available! Also, get signed up ASAP so we can get this players list filled out :)

a quick update - We have our first sponsor on board - the MAD club is in for teesign sponsorship!
We have a few already registered with many more who have said they plan to play. I will be at the Towne Lake mini tomorrow to sell some stuff, take registrations, and play some golf :). If you want to sign up in person - this is a great opportunity to do so!

It is one of those multi-purpose acronyms.

McKinney

Discgolfers

Duckstringing
I usually call MAD,,, Ben.
I am supper excited about this event. Partly because Phil is flying in from Arizona to play.
Josh, Have you talked to Ron about Pin locations? They are mostly in the B position last I played, over 2 weeks ago. I think it would be fun to play Blue to B then Red to A, that is just me though. It may be impossible to coordinate with the city to get that done.
We need to get the word out about this event. Most of the people I talked to at Mothersday Madness didn't even know this was going on.

Towne Lake minis are Friday and Sunday. Josh must mean the Alex Clark mini Wed @ 6:00. It has been shorts, 2 & 12 long, but the TD (Brad Roy) can call whatever he wants.

I was talking about the towne lake mini - I posted that on a saturday. We didn't have the mini that sunday though since it was mother's day... but I did take a couple registrations anyway :). The mini on Sunday @ TL normally starts at 10:00am. The tees might be longs, might be shorts... gotta show up and find out!
As for pin locations for the tournament, Ron has obtained permission from the City for us to move a few of them on Saturday night, between rounds 2 and 3. We won't move *all* of them, but the course will play differently on Sunday!
Registrations are trickling in, and there is lots of talk going around about this tournament. Get signed up soon so people know you're playing. The more people sign up early, the more urgency others will feel to get signed up as well. I'm going to try to be at the ACM mini again this week, but even if I can't make it, you can sign up with Ron in person. If you need to mail in your registration, send it to:

another quick update - I confirmed today that Paul Testa (a local disc golfer and member of the McKinney Fire Department) will be able to kick us off with a special treat in honor of Memorial Day! I'm not going to say exactly what it is yet but I'm sure a few of you know that PT has talents off the DG course as well as on... If you know what this surprise is, please keep it a surprise :). All I'll say right now is that I wanted to honor our troops and other servicemen and PT will help us do just that.
Back to DG talk - more entries are coming in every day! We have ordered some cool Discraft merchandise for players packs - every amateur will receive a tournament-stamped disc! Of course we'll have plenty of cool TitleDISC gear and custom discs along with a full selection of Innova, Discraft, and Gateway merchandise. Deidre and I are both excited about this one!

more registrations rolling in - 23 so far. Pre-reg list is posted at www.titledisc.com
We're also looking for a couple of volunteers! We will need a spotter for hole #2 at TL both days, and possibly for hole #16 at ACM. All volunteers will receive a player's pack, a teesign sponsorship, and some other cool TitleDISC goodies :)
I am going to try very hard to be at the ACM mini tonight - 6:00 start. It's a singles mini, all cash payout, and there is usually at least 30+ players. You can also sign up in-person for the tournament with either Ron Siliman or myself. I will definitely be at the TL mini on Sunday - 10:00am start, same format. I believe both minis have a good ace pot going, so c'mon out! I will bring some merch, too if anyone needs to pick something up

Looking forward to this one. Never played the ACM, I'm guessing it's a pitch and putt for the most part? Ace runs! Josh, any CFR disc for this event.

ACM from the shorts is a pitch and putt mostly, but from the longs it poses some real challenges. Advanced and Pro will also play some Champion pads that make the course even more interesting :). CC - you're playing pro, right? :D
no CFRs this time, but I do have some leftovers from Rockwall that will be sold to raise money for this event. Destroyers and TeeRex-X. Tournament stamps for the Wilson Creek Challenge are all Discraft, but the Tournament stamped CryZtal Buzzz, CryZtal Challenger, FLX Surge, FLX Avenger, Z Avenger SS, and Z predator will all be available in the players packs!

We had around 40 people at the Alex Clark mini last night. 3 aces and I know of 3 people hitting metal. Two -13 won open with -8 being good for last cash. That was from the concrete or "short" tees. You will only get one round from the shorts. The "pro" tees add another 1,000' to the course. It is short, yet very fun.

I'm feeling generous, Why not play open? It's decided! Hope to get a ginormous open field for this one. Already then, seems like a few courses where ams can compete with some of the open players. I will sign up tomorrow probably.

I played Towne Lake for the first time in about 4 weeks. The course looked great. It was brought up that for the people who don't know the courses. The Wilson Creek will be a challenge. It isn't just a name. You might want to bring some backup discs. Water on 20 of the 36 holes.

The TL course is probably in the best shape it's ever been in. The city has been out there mowing and trimming, plus I did a bit of weedeating at TL yesterday and I know Ron and a couple others are doing more this week. Almost every hole is in its tough position right now and wil stay that way for practice all week. Saturday night we'll move some of the baskets to the short positions to change it up a bit and make things move quicker on Sunday.
Also, we'll be having BYOP doubles at TL Friday afternoon - flex start from 3:00pm till 6:00pm. In-person signups will be avilable at the Wednesday ACM mini, and at Friday TL doubles. We'll also have tournament-stamped discs at each of these minis!
At the request of the local club, to accommodate some of the McKinney group, we will also allow Day-of registration, until 8:45am. We don't normally do this, but seeing how the local crew has put in lots of hours promoting the event, preparing the courses, and generally being cool people - I think we can make this exception :). The only caveat is that there will be a $5 sponsorship required from any day-of registrations. This money goes towards tournament expenses, pro payout, etc.
40 players signed up so far, and the weatherman has finally given us a clear forecast for the weekend! People keep telling me that they're waiting for the weather report, or waiting to see who else signs up... getting signed up early will increase the turnout and therefore the payouts for everyone! Even if we don't get close to full - we'll still have a great time as always. By now you all know we put on a great event, and this one will be no different :)
5 days!

I was able to get in a round at both TL and ACM this afternoon. I agree that TL is in the best shape I have seen it in, and there were a few holes that I have not seen in the long position - should be fun to play. The only multi-day event I will play in this year, in all likelihood will be World's, so y'all have fun.
As I was leaving ACM, I saw JD getting ready to play, so watch out!

If JD decides to play, he'll have some competition... several local pros are playing and they know these courses very well :)
Tournament-stamped discs are in and they look great! I will be bringing some of them to he ACM mini tomorrow night in case anyone wants to pick some up early. We also now have some cool Discraft Ultra-stars in stock! We have white ones, black ones, and full-color stamps available. These are great for warming up before a round or just working on your control shots :)

What's the agenda for Saturday morning? Where will you be setting up and when will the players meeting start?
baldguy
May 29 2009, 11:19 AM
Player's Meeting tomorrow is 9:00am @ Towne Lake. We'll be there early - day-of registration is going to cut off at 8:30.
Players packs for ams will be available starting this afternoon during doubles. We won't have a check-in process in the morning, we will just post hole assignments and if anyone is somehow left off the list, we will address that on a case-by-case basis.
Heading out in less than 3 hours! :)

95 players is the total we ended up with this weekend! I just uploaded day 1 scores:
http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9295&year=2009&include_ratings=1#Open
We also had 22 teams play doubles yesterday :)
I'm really surprised we got done so quickly today - almost 100 players, a bit longer than usual players meeting, and we *still* had everyone off the courses by about 4:15. Beautiful weather, courses in fantastic shape, lots of our disc golf brothers and sisters out having a good time in the shade :). Who could ask for anything more?
Ron and crew moved all the baskets at TL to the short positions this afternoon. All divisions are playing short pads at both courses - it should be an even quicker day of golf!
The only ace so far is Mr. Glen Hale who tagged long #14 at ACM. Also check out the scores - right now, if all pros had played open, we would have grandmasters in places 2 and 3, and masters in place 4. All within striking distance of JD's 101. Those old guys got some game!
9:00m teeoff for round 3 tomorrow - cards will be at your courses. See you all in the morning!

Thanks Padre :)
What a weekend! 95 players spread out on 2 courses made for some very fast golf. Playing all shorts yesterday meant that we were done with round 4 at about 3:45pm. Ring of Fire and awards were done 45 minutes after that. We took our time packing up (thanks mitch for all the help!) and we were still on the road by 6:00pm. Gotta love it when it all happens that smoothly.
We had 2 aces that each got $200, plus we christened two new pros! Glenn Hale and Zach Pike each had a 1 on their cards - both at ACM. Calvert Campbell and Justin Jones each accepted the cash and officially moved up into the pro ranks! Congrats guys - you both (obviously) have the game for Open :)
Thanks again to all our spotters and other crew - the tournament couldn't have been nearly that smooth without your help. Mitch Branick and Christy Furr, especially. Both of those individuals worked all day both days to keep things going. Also Koos and Steve for doing even more spotting and Cliff Dickerson from bringing a chilled watermelon that many of us enjoyed after round 4 :).
Also a big thanks to everyone who chipped in and donated a few bucks or a few discs to the grief camp for kids - this is the first year that the camp is using disc golf as an activity and I know they're going to love how therapeutic our sport really is. Each of you who donated made a difference in somebody's life this year - I'm very proud that we ended up giving so many discs that Ajax couldn't even carry them all by himself :)
Scores are posted here: http://www.pdga.com/tournament-results?TournID=9295&year=2009&include_ratings=1#Recreational
Congrats JD, Ron, Skeeter, James, Ben, Rob, Michelle and Jonathan for winning your divisions! Thanks again to everyone!

This tourney had it all. We got to play 2 fun courses, we took the time to honor our country and our troops, help donate disc/$ for the Grief Camp, Ring of Fire, and Awesome Hospitality by the Local McKinney Golfers. Big Thanks to The Danns and Titledisc, all the help staff that made this one go smooth sailing. I appreciate all the praise and encouragement.
Hope the Wilson Creek Challenge will become an annual event!
