The New Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 has a new Disc Golf feature that allows you to throw on the greatest traditional golf courses in the world.

Watch the Video! Wii Disc Golf - Put Down the Clubs!

http://tigerwoodspgatour.easports.com/home.action

The opener reads: "Are you ready to play one of the fastest growing sports in America?! Disc Golf is very similar to regular golf. The goal is to get the disc in the basket in the least amount of throws. Play all of the courses. Have fun!"

The game is set to release in stores on June 16th.

This is going to be huge for our sport when the Millions of players that buy Tiger Woods Video Games get the chance to play a Disc Golf Video Game.

It's exciting to see our sport get such recognition! Great marketing by Wii to get interest in purchasing the disc golf game once released. People who have never heard of disc golf will after playing Tiger's game. This is fantastic.

Please note that this game does not take the place of the PDGA Disc Golf game for the Wii. That game will be played on actual disc golf courses. I am not sure which ones yet. We'll keep you posted as I am sure this will be a front page story.

Now what are you doing just sitting there reading this discussion board???? Go out and get a Wii!!

I'm hoping that you will be able to buy just the Disc Golf portion online at the Wii Channel using points.

It would much more affordable than the PGA game.

I have never used a Wii but have a couple questions.. With a golf club you are not releasing the club. You hold onto the club as you strike the ball. In our game you want the disc to rip out of your hand. Will there be a tendency to release the Wii controller and have it fly into your TV set? I would imagine wanting to have the controller strapped to my hand so I do not inadvertently let fly. Otherwise, this looks pretty cool. I also wonder whether the force applied for different players will yield different distances. For example, will I throw as far as Avery with the Wii or will it remain true and show my shot 200 feet short of his?

Is this Wii only, or is it included in all version TW2010?

Nintendo (I'm assuming you mean Nintendo when you say "by Wii") has nothing to do with it. A couple of the developers (at the EA studio that does TW and Madden) are relatively new disc golfers on a course in Orlando according to a friend of mine down there, they're the ones responsible for the inclusion of Disc Golf in TW10.

And I will definitely be purchasing a Wii and TW10 this summer.

The Wii's hand in the video is holding the disc wrong. They need to get the pointer finger off the rim of the disc.

Wii controllers have a built-in strap, just for that reason.

My brother and I got up at 9:30 (early for us) to be at GameStop at 10:00 for the release of Tiger Woods 2010. You may remember this is the new wii game that prominently features disc golf. Here's the deal:

The graphics are pretty decent, first of all. Its on the courses they made for the ball golf side of the game, so don't expect wooded courses, but the game play is kinda fun once you get the hang of it. Drivers go 150 yards (at least in theory, I have yet to accomplish this feat), midranges go 75 yards, and putters work up to 20 yards.

As far as the physics... there is at least some evidence that they are considering wind in the disc flight. I'm not good enough at it to know how much of it is just me throwing badly, but I've definitely noticed some wind effects. The discs do not roll really, but when they land on edge they will sorta bounce/skip... not like you're used to in real dg, but its something.

As far as throwing mechanics... haha... well, its a far cry from perfect. I can get about 380 feet or so in real disc golf. The same form (except slower because I don't want to destory my TV) goes like 12 yards in this game. Don't expect to be able to use Tiger Woods Wii to train on rainy days. So far we have been most successful using a kind of stationary frisbee throw type toss (I suspect the game is confused by long reach backs, x-steps, etc.) There is no forehand option, but by switching it to lefty mode we tricked the same into letting us throw sidearm too. We didn't have much success, but we only tried it like twice. I think you could probably make it work.

I know someone is going to get on here and just bash this game and do the whole "blah blah blah, they didn't even study how disc golf works before they made this thing, etc." I want to say that, in my judgment at least, this is a good first step toward better disc golf games in the future. Obviously the controls don't perfectly mimic real disc golf, but I don't think I could apply my wii bowling throw, or my wii boxing skills with much real life success either. I would caution people against judging this game simply based on how realistic it is.

The Best Parts:
1) Disc golf exposure in a mainstream game
2) Fun game play, and as a bonus it comes with regular old tiger woods golf, which is very well made
3) You don't have to walk to go get your disc!!!

Go buy it, cast your consumer vote for more disc golf video games in the future.

Are you sure it was the game that sucked?

IMO, It doesn't suck! You can throw backhand, forehand, thumbers and rollers. Even the jump putt works pretty good. I only got in two rounds last night but I liked it.

I played it on Wii last night. It was a reason to open my year old Wii. It's pretty easy to play backhand but the discs don't really follow traditional flight paths. Hyzers resemble rainbows and anhyzers just take off and go right. With my putting motion I made everything.

drivers go 150yds, midranges max out at 75yds and putters max out at 20yds(weak).

I also went to lefty mode and threw sidearms. It worked okay but throwing sidearm putts wasn't as easy as backhand.

Overall it was a good experience. I bought my Wii in May of 2008 and haven't had any reason to open it up until now. I'm glad I did.

I agree on the mechanics of the game. It really did not understand your pull back. Disc flight was a bit odd, but I did get the disc over 160 yards on a downhill shot with a tailwind. During my first round, I thought putting was very easy, as I made everything with the putter (20yds, a bit low in my opinion)
The disc also had some odd reactions, like it didnt skip, it bounced. I also saw my disc slide down a hill of grass; something is very unlikely to ever happen. I tried a roller, but it never rolled, ill have to try that tonight.
Overall, great experience, and it is pretty fun to play, but it is a far cry from being realistic to how we know the game in reality.
This post is not a bash on it at all, its more of a honest, realistic review on Disc golfs first real video game. They will get better over time!

I am claiming the 1st recorded "Hole in One" Ace on the new Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10.

Kyle Maute and I just finished playing the Random 18 course and I believe I witnessed a Course Record -18 (54) shot by Kyle. I followed him with a solid -15 (57) with 4 Eagles in a row finishing that stretch with a "Shot Called" Ace!!!!!! I am not only claiming the Ace but it is witnessed and documented.

This game is huge for the sport of Disc Golf!!!

I look forward to hearing more course stories as the game increases in popularity.

Do you have a course story that you would like to tell??

I wish it was the same. I deserve the double circles on the eagles. Only single circles for all scores under par except Aces. At least they gave me the Diamond for that throw.

So I see that you have not played the game as of yet.

Best disc game EVER. All I have to say though: Tommy heaven. I am definitely throwing my tommys 170yds easy all over with those. Are people throwing backhands and forehands over that? Because thus far the only thing we can really rip beyond that 150 consistently and easy is the tommy.

Edit: After typing that I just ripped 185yd with one.

i've tried the game. the putting is upsetting. also i don't know if it's my game but the tee-off order for each hole was the same by players. that bugged the crap out of me when i birdied then someone else got triple boge and got to go first. also the driving wasn't real. the finger thing bugged me.

let's just get the PDGA game out ASAP. by the way is that cgoing to have disc selections?

I went out and bought the Wii and Tiger Woods 10 specifically for the disc golf. I only practiced a round, but I would say it is fun and entertaining. I never played the Wii so to get off the couch and have both my wife and I swinging discs at our TV was exciting.

I only played the course in Scotland. I hope there are more realistic Disc Golf courses with more obstacles, trees, tunnel shots, doglegs where you actually need to throw a spike hyzer in the wind, or anhyzer turnover rollers.

Its a great start and I'm still learning to play the game. If anyone is considering making the next and best disc golf game, I would suggest:

1) online mode
2) character creator and play against the pros or your friends
3) unlock mode for extra abilities (i.e. rollers, thumbers, extra long drives, forehands, etc)
4) Wall of Discs for collector discs from tourney wins and prize track info
5) rating tracking system to compete against rated players
6) Actual Disc golf courses, play at Fountain Hills, AZ, or De La Vega, CA, etc...
7) Disc golf course creator, (play on Mars, in the Alps, or underground lava caves, etc..)
8) Sponsor bulletins in real live game mode (sponsor your real disc golf event)
9) Fun mode (low gravity, tree buzz cutter discs, remote control ability, night golf)
10) Anything less would be selling short IMHO.

Don't forget Zombie mode with razor discs. Another nice add on would be the ATM machine that spits out money when you win.

I can dream too.

In all seriousness it is a good start. Let's not forget that it plays disc golf on a ball golf course. There aren't many obstacles. My favorite is the 4 foot diameter bunker right in the middle of the fairway at TPC Sawgrass. My friend hit it perfectly.

I've had the game for about a week and I love it! The golf side of it is more fun to me, but the disc golf side is pretty cool. I've only tooled around with it a few times so I'm not throwing anything but backhands so far, but I think its a great first attempt and being included on TW10 was GENIUS marketing strategy. I'm having too much fun playing my PDGA tour schedule right now, but I'll get into the disc golf side more as time goes on.

I am a lefty and I couldn't get forearms to work that well, so I used the right hand player mode and threw lefty forearms and they went max distance almost 100% of the time. Still trying to work on the rollers. Some of the courses are locked under disc golf mode, I am not sure if you can play these or not.

Also, anyhyzers and hyzer shots work ok but are fun to throw. The difficult part of the game is trying to throw midrange upshots with 50-70% power. I either throw too much power or not enough. Depending on the distance, I try to utilize each disc to throw at max distance as it easier to get the results you are looking for. If the setting is to throw the driver at 50%, (150yds*50% = 75yards) switch over to the midrange and throw at 100% (75yds*100% = 75yards, better accuracy). And if you happen to be facing an uphill shot from the green, aim up at the sky to get it over the hill.

Without any ratings, or continuation objectives, I could see the disc golf mode of the game somewhat sizzling down after several months of play, but if you can play amongst friends, this will be great entertainment at a get together.

I have one motion plus control and another standard control. With the standard it was much easier to throw both forehand and backhands. The result of the shots were much flatter. I played 2 games with a fellow disc golfer last night and I used the motion plus in the 1st round and lost by 7 strokes. We switched and using the standard controller I won the 2nd game by about the same number.

What are your favorite courses to play on Wii disc golf? Does anyone know how to play the courses that are locked?

After a few days of playing, I'm finding this game is fun when you play with other people, but it is missing creativity and continuation play for single mode. Disc flight is so sub-standard and putting is cakewalk.

I heard the PDGA disc golf game in production is supposed to be 10x better and really looking forward to the release, however it won't have online mode for the first release, hmm... (I remember playing Doom online back in '93). Here is a recent interview with the developer for the PDGA presents Disc Golf game: http://www.1000rated.com/2008/08/new-disc-golf-wii-game-pdga-presents-disc-golf/

Hope some of the ideas I mentioned in another post above are incorporated to make a solid disc golf game.

In TigerWoods09 on the Xbox, you have to play the career mode to unlock courses. Some get unlocked in the Tiger Challenge for sure, and others I think when you play the PGA event there.

If disc golf is just another play mode, then I would think you need to play career to unlock the courses, clubs, clothes, and bunny suits.

Can you play the career in disc golf mode?
