I just went out and played the back nine twice on my lunch hour. I wasn't very optimistic, but once i got out there and actually saw how it was laid out, I really enjoyed it. I'm excited to see what the front nine will look like.

One thing that may have been just me, but the footage listed on tees 16 and 17 is way longer than actual distance. i walked them off and i got numbers about 50 feet less than whats on there.

Anyways, big props to all involved on laying that out. I'll be back out there tomorrow at lunch.

I played it for the first time yesterday and dueced the first 7 right out of the truck. Very nice layout, still has pedestrian and bikes coming through some of it but hey, thats's Riverside. ;)

true, but none of the holes actually **cross** the pathways. hole 12 is the only one that you have to physically cross the path to get to, and it stays on the far side the entire way.

i didnt really keep score on my shots since i was throwing 3-4 drives per hole, but i'd say i was getting a fair amount of my drives close to the pin. (which doesnt mean jack s**t since i am a terrible putter)

hole 18 will be a b**ch when those trees get bigger. should post a sign on that hole that says "if you enjoy holes like these, visit moose run"

Thanks for the positive feedback..

We had a lot of restrictions to comply with to even keep a course there. They wanted the clockwise layout and no throwing over trails.

I think it will work out. There is a 400 foot and 350 foot hole on the front 9!!

Sorry Wayne :o

After last weekend's great play I may hide behind the keyboard at events for there rest of my life.
you would think that a 8 week layoff and a little hand surgery would not be that tough to over come :( but I find myself looking for a handicap division, /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif I have no idea how RAM ever got back to walking the course let alone winning again. Oh well we always knew he was a better man than me, I suck and that is all there is to it.

I wouldn't say that Martin. Wise told me that RAM has been neutered and nowdays prefers to wear ladies lingerie and work 11th street. On top of that I've never seen RAM run a "Spring Fling" before. /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Played the river 2.0 on the way home from the LODGE sunday.

Holes 14, 16 and 17 are lawsuits waiting to happen.

You will have discs thrown into the road and hitting vehicles on a regular basis.

We had several beginning players with us and they threw into the road and almost hit cars.

Who puts a basket 10 to 20 feet from a busy road anyway.

Yes I enjoyed the new course but I think 16 and 17 are too dangerous and the city may pull the course if there are any problems.

I think someone from the club should contact MR TREAT to start some discussion on these holes being redesigned.

Again I thought the course and the new park area looked incredible so lets avoid some possible problems and keep this course in the ground.

We are meeting later this week to review 16 & 17. They didn't seem any closer to me than old 3 or 4.

By the way, no need to have anyone contact the city. The city isn't involved, that area is River Parks.

Did the thought ever cross your mind to discuss it with me??

Maybe you should take a civics class rather than scooping everyones disc out of black hawk

I'm a lefty and hit the first 7 holes out there. Didn't bother me. As for Hutch's comments about BH, he is correct. Something does need to be done about the pond around hole 8's basket. I'm not sure what can be done but it has eroded about 4 ft in two years and maybe this has been caused by him standing on that bank for so many hours fishing for discs.
The club needs to do a punch list of several maitinance items on a few courses around town, starting with tee signs.
McCLure - all tee signes need re-done. McClure also needs all of the alt sleeves replaced.
Dovillio - several signs need replanted, hole 15 tee pad needs fixed ASAP or it will be lost.
Hunter - several tee signs need replanted and some re-done for the new holes.
Black Hawk - several tees to to be built up in front and on the sides to prevent injuries.

While we have many courses in town and have concentrated on getting more courses, I think we have neglected routine maintinance. We have several great courses but none of them look that great right now, with the exception of Riverside. Maybe if we held back a little of the money we hand out to every charity in town or anyone that walks through the door asking for a handout then we could take care of it.

First of all, sorry Hutch for my unusually harsh reply. You caught me at a p/o'd moment for some reason.

I agree with Dave that we need some maintenance around town and to redirect our financials resources back to TULSA where we all play every day...

It is easy to help other groups/events/purposes out, but we have to take care of our own first or the proverbial well will run dry at some point..

Having Played for several years now in the Oklahoma City events I must say that they are a fine example of what can happen when routine maintenance is ignored. It would be a real shame if all of our hard work on having so many fine courses was allowed to rot as Will Rogers, and Woodson have. not that Dolese is in super shape but at lest most of the alt pen placements are still usable.

I did want to add a note from today's loop:

i saw lefties throwing right over the path on 12. (down the tunnel) and a couple of bikers didnt seem to like that. also, with all the rain we've had, we have a small creek separating 17's basket from 18's tee. ther only place to cross is by having to go halfway back down 17's fairway. that could prove to be nasty come glide time.

still, its a helluva fun back nine. still no front nine yet. any word on when that's happening?

How is throwing over the path now any different than before? It will always be up to the individual golfer to have the patience to wait until it is clear. Depending on the wind direction you'll see lefties and righties going over the paths on some shots. There will always be the possibility of a biker/disc encounter, with no more room than is available. Not that much with walkers but when the bikes come through at 30mph+, around an obstructed view, its possible. Trust me, the bikers will learn of the area and its dangers and be more aware when they come through too.

Its still Riverside....................gotta love it.;)

Can't wait till its finished. Be nice to have a good short course around.:p

I have played the back nine a few times in the past two weeks and it is what Riverside has always been...a course where you have to be aware of your surroundings.

One question though...why did the city insist on the back nine clockwise layout? I would think that a back nine counter-clockwise layout would have alleviated some of the concerns for holes 16 and 17. I think that most DGers...and especially DGers that are just starting...are RHBH. A back nine counter-clockwise layout would have had their RHBH tee shots fading away from Riverside Raceway. But, stating that, we all remember the figure-8 layout the old front nine had where holes 3 and 4 were basically layed out just like new holes 16 and 17, except for being shorter...discs did find their way into the raceway on those holes...and, we all remember old hole 9 where those tee shots from a RHBH never faded back and discs found their way onto the raceway. So it is what it is...discs will land on the raceway...you can't make everyone happy.

I like the new layout for the back nine; I just liked the old back nine more where you finished up along the river/trail side of the park. And...I miss old hole ten the most...hyzer line over the parking lot.

I guess I am just curious why the city insisted on the clockwise layout for the new back nine?

One last thing...the new play equipment is awesome (and the fountains...and the carpeted mounds...great for cleaning muddy shoes). You gotta try that red upside-down oversized toilet plunger looking apparatus. You will not stop spinning for a long time...go get motion sickness!
