Not so fast, Ray.

The Kansas City Wide Open had 222 players last year. 104 Pros, and 118 ams. PDGA considers them two separate events since pros were an NT, and Ams were in an A-Tier, but we basically run them both as the same event.

That being said, everyone should go to the St. Louis Open....great courses and a good time will be had by all.

I have been asked to run a ( bring your partner) doubles on Friday and wanted to see what the interest level was before I commit.

So,,,, who all is interested in playing in a bring your partner doubles at Endicott on Friday before the event?

You will not have to be a pdga member or registered in the ST Louis Open event to participate in the doubles,,, cost will be $20 per team and you will receive a NEW Evolution Apache or Savage and we will also be prizing out and have trophies for first Place.

We will have 2 divisions, Pro and Am!

The format will be to start anytime after 2:00 as long as there are 2 groups going on!

The guys from Flint (6) most likely would be interested. At least 4 of us would be as we have never seen the courses before.

I'll be there on Friday for doubles as long as Calvin can join me.
BTW Calvin shot an Ace on hole one at Endicott on Friday with an Element X. That's his 4th ace and 2nd with an EL X.
I have also shot 4 Aces and 3 of mine were with an Element X.

Jefferson Barracks has a lot of casual water from the recent rains. Hole 5 basket has a swarm of bees nesting in it. A local bee keeper will be gathering them up for his hive.

I just got off the phone with Jeff. He said we have at least $2,000 added to the pro purse. And for the ams there is a disc golf bag for all winner of their division.

We had 180 player's last year and we only have 27 player's signed up so far. What's up with that? Here is why. The pdga's pre-reg was down and it was fixed last week. Also, we're only listing the "paid" player's. We may just post all the player's we know are coming.

Please register and pay early. Or, if you know your coming call Jeff Irwin at 314-753-9161.

We are capping the event at 250 player's so we don't have 5 somes.

Did I mention free beer.

I live in a townhouse just off of highway 70. I am under 20 minutes away from Endicott and Creve Coeur. I have a pullout couch in the basement and some floor space for those with an air mattress or cot. I only have room for a few people. If you want to come to STL for the open and need to save some cash I would be happy to accommodate. Post if youre interested. P.S. You will be staying with my girlfriend and I. To all if you are planning on attending this year, please get a hold of Jeff before Friday and let him know you are coming. If you wait and show up Friday for sign-up it is a $10 late registration fee. It is on all of the flyers.

Thanks and hopefully we will see all of you next weekend. The courses are looking sweet and playing very challenging.

Ron,

It may be Jeff has no intention to charge a late fee. This may be his way to try to get people to pre-reg. Most likely the St. Louis people. He's been out of town the last couple of days. When he gets back I'll find out and post. See ya.

Ok, trying out the new thread. FYI, last year the purse was $7,000 and if we get the numbers we'll be well over that. The numbers of registered player's are low right not at 86 because this is the people who paid only. We have about 50 who said they are coming and have not paid. There is no late fee if you pay Friday night at Endicott.

We also have a player's party with free dinner and free drinks, which includes beer. Jim Lucas' band will also play. I'm sure Disc Golf Junkie will be on the setlist.
Hyzer does rhyme with Budweiser.

See ya...

We show 183 for the Open but 178 is closer to the mark. Imagine our surprise playing under sunny skies and no wind. I had a ball today and played fairly well. I lead the Advanced Grand Masters by 9 strokes after 2 rounds. The players party was a gas and Jim Lucas' band rocked the park. Everybody enjoyed Stacy and Co.s cooking and Schlafley's beer. More to come and more to follow, thanks to Jeff Irwin and his crew for putting this together.

May 04 2009, 12:13 PM
The scores are posted.
Nikko came from behind in the final 9 and won by 2 over Geoff Bennett and snagged $1020.00 in cash.

George Smith took home 3rd and cashed for $500.00,,,, hitting one of his famous final 9 crowd pleasing putts of well over 80 feet up hill through a tight gap in the trees,,,, BANG!!!

One of Gateway's Mixed bag sponsored Advanced amateur player, Ryan Robbins finished 4th in open taking home $400.00 and turning down a shot at this years am worlds and am nationals.

Byran Johnson who is also on the mixed bag sponsored team, backed up his strong finish at Bowling green by holding off the late charging Ben Askren for a 4 stroke win.
Bryan's payday was worth $400 in prizes and $300 for Ben, who make his professional living as a MMA ultimate fighter after having one of the best division 1 college wrestling careers ever at Mizzou and competing in the Olympics in 2008! (

John " ROBO" Ruvalcaba a long time Gateway sponsored player took down Open Masters and $500 in a playoff over Crafty veteran Rob Strasser by canning a 50 foot jump putt on hole 2 after hitting a tree by the basket and rolling away.

Adding to the list of Gateway sponsored players accomplishments this weekend,,,, Advanced Masters was won handily by Chris Kinsella by more than double digits ( maybe time for him to turn pro)..

Women's Open was won by Liz Lopez in a tightly contested battle over Liz Carr and received a $400 1st place check, Liz took home $300.

All in all it was a top notch Event on 4 challenging courses.
Players received a great players package, delicious food, lively music with spectacular weather.

Im pretty sure the FPO round ratings are wrong. We played in the same pool as the open men but our ratings are significantly lower compared to the guys who shot identical scores. Im sure they just have us entered as still being in the D pool. Just a heads up. Thanks!

Overall this by far was the best large scale tournament that I have played in.
*Great player packs
*Good payouts
*Nice player party with food, beer, & music
*Challenging courses
*Very well organized
*Plenty of tournament staffing
*Good maps & course directions

The group of 6 people that I came with were more than happy that we drove 9 hours to come play in this event. Wished there had been the CTPs & Rings of Fire. To my knowledge they did not take place but, no biggie. The tournament more than exceeded my expectations! Thanks to all that played and to all of those that helped run the event.
