From the TD's perspective what advantages are there for running an A Tier versus a C Tier?

no advantage whatsoever unless you are concerned with being able to lure more big guns- lots of disadvantages.

A-Tiers have preference on scheduling and more incentive for sponsored players to attend.
All players must be current PDGA members so best for tournaments that are aimed at Advanced and Pro Players.
A-Tiers require more fundraising and course preparation (at least the courses are supposed to be groomed and in excellent condition).
A-Tiers are often accompanied by associated B or C Tier events held 1-2 weeks before, aimed at Am players to help raise money and allow non-current members to play.
