The Nacogdoches Crushers Disc Golf Association is pleased to be hosting the 10th Annual Pecan Park Open in Nacogdoches, TX May 30-31st. You may registar online at www.titledisc.com (http://www.titledisc.com) . Registration will also be available for the Friday doubles round at Pecan Park or on Saturday morning before 9AM at tourney HQ.

This will be a PDGA B-Tier, 4 rounds of 18 holes.
- Friday doubles will $20/team BYOP.

We've got the pavillions at both parks reserved this year. Last year we couldn't secure Pecan Park's so we had to have tourney headquarters at Pionner Park... Headquarters this year will be Pecan Park. The tournament director will again be Craig Lewis, and you can feel free to contact him via email crushercraig@gmail.com.

We will be holding a skins match as well after the 4th round like we did last year. The top 4 scores, regardless of divisions will qualify to participate in the skins match. 4 other players will win a chance to particpate in the skins match via raffle tickets. Each raffle winner will pair up with those who have qualified to play 6 holes of Alternate Doubles for skins. The skins will be worth at least $50 dollars a hole or $300 total (more depending on how many tickets are sold, but $300 for the skins will be the minimum pot regardless).

Guarenteed $1000 added to the PRO PURSE.
- we already have this pledged, like we did last year. If we secure more sponsors for the pro-purse, this has the potential to grow.

We have a few mandos that we are considering using for Pecan Park, Pioneer is the same as always......

Feel free to contact me anytime either on this message board, via email @ anarak82@hotmail.com or via phone at (936)556-3667

Thanks,
Grayson Middlebrook

WOW must be a big tourney to need 2 threads :) 2009 Pecan Park Open (http://discussion.pdga.com/msgboard/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=898670&an=0&page=0#Post8 98670)

that thread wasn't opened by us, and it was a discussion of what dates the tourney might be held due to a number of large tournies such as the World Dubs, Texas State Championships, and the TWC being held around the time we normally hold the PPO. Next year we are hoping to return to our normal April time slot, but the state coordinator asked us to consider later time slots this year due to so many tournies falling in April this year.....

So please disregard the other thread, my apologies for there being 2 threads about the same tournies... IMO it's better to have the actual info starting on the first post, not on page 2 or 3.

just thought I'd share the stamp for the those who are intrested. It was done by Zach Mallard, who did a lot of the stamps for HOTT

Ok, we're getting out sponsorships coming in now, and the shirts with the above stamp should be in soon. We will be ordering Gateway, Innova, and Discraft discs this year, so there should be a little wider of a selection.

Other things

- We will be having skins again this year, with the top 4 scores teaming up with 4 raffle winners to play for cash raised from the raffle. Last year each hole was worth about 50 bucks I think.

- The doubles will be at Pecan Park starting at 2pm on Friday. Deadline to sign up is 6pm so you can finish the round.

- There have been a few changes to the course since last year, and a few major ones since last month. The city made us move hole 14 because people were throwing too many discs into the backyard beside hole 14. So basically we had to change the angle on holes 12, 13, and 14. We made them all a little more challenging, but fair. Hole 14 is harder though. It is now a shorter but tighter shot, with the little pond in front of it, but OB 30ft and beyond behind it. It should make for some fun shots.

- On day 1 at Pecan park, we will be observing some of the new mandos we have at the park. There is a mando now on holes 4, 6, and 7 and a double mando on hole 11. Scores have gone up by an average of about 2 stokes in our minis when we use mandos compared to no mandos. Most of them are easy, though holes 7 and 11 can really cost you some strokes. Day 2 will have no mandos. There are no changes to Pioneer park.

- We still have $1000 added to the pro purse

- Pre-registration is up on titledisc.com

C'mon Ware don't be like that................I was about to start one today as well.

Didn't want to dig the other up and might as well start fresh.

I will be out there for sure as I need to go do some Apt searching in town and prepare for some schooling there next year. So you guys better come this year since by this time next year I will have those courses down.

I guess you'll have a leg up on the out of towners too on our new courses. We just got all the money for the baskets in for the first course at Lake Nacogdoches. We were hoping to have it all in before the tourney, but it's tough raising money for a tourney and new courses. The baskets should be arriving soon, and we'll probably make that job #1 right after the Pecan Park Open.

Other things:
- Camping is available at Camp Tonkawa Springs Resort. It's basically a bunch of camp sites surrounding a very cold water spring. After a day of disc golf in late may, I'm sure it'd be nice to take a dip in that spring, it's like swimming on top of a giant ice cube. It's pretty cheap to stay there. Last time I was there it only cost me about $10 a night. It's about a 10 minute drive from pecan park down US59. Call (936)564-8888 for details

- The best rates will probably again be at Hotel Nacogdoches on the south side. It was taken over by a Clarion last year, so it may say Clarion out front. There is also Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and a Comfort Inn on Highway 59 on the south side of town just before you hit the loop. These hotels are all less than a mile away from Pioneer Park. Tourney HQ will be at Pecan Park this year though, and Days Inn on North Street maybe the closest hotel. The Fredionia Hotel has a lot of options and is not really that much more to stay in if it's more expensive than the other hotels/motels in town. Plus there is a nice bar @ Fredionia Hotel. If you're like me, and like to stay somewhere a little nicer when you go out of town, Fredonia Hotel is you best bet.

- We'll be running the tourney on a leaderboard card system this year, and do all the computer work between rounds. Last year there was a little mess with inputting the divisions in the computer, so round 1 was delayed by about 30 min. This year we shouldn't have that problem.

- I beleive round 3 is when we'll be doing CTPs for every card.

- Lunch will be served both days at a small charge (usually $5), should be something to the tune of hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, sodas etc.

If anyone has any more ideas about what you'd like to see at this year's PPO, don't be shy. If there were things you liked about last year that I haven't mentioned, let us know, or if there's something else we haven't mentioned that you would think help better the event, let us know.

So what's the deal with pre-registration? 2 players? My road trip crew may have to pull out of this one if it doesn't meet the field size of normal DFW area minis...

Most people will likely sign up friday.................well at least half I would say as that is the norm for this event.

last year we only had about 10 people pre-reg until the week before the tourney. By the time we closed pre-reg w/ titledisc, we had about 60 players. By the time the tourney started we had 98 players.

This tourney has consistently pulled in 80-120 players every year for 9 years, so I don't think there should be much worry about a low turnout. It should be larger than any mini that I've ever been to in Dallas, unless your talking about BMI :P

I dunno, maybe there's not a lot of east texans that have their electronic contraptions connected to the interweb.

We should have the player's list up soon on pdga.com. We've got some locals signing up, a few on titledisc.com coming in, so you should soon have a more accurate picture of what reg is like so far.

other things:

Players pack will be t-shirt again with the logo. Pros will get the t-shirt too for free. Last year we did this and some of the pros didn't pick them up, I'm guessing because they usually don't get any players pack. But we still ran 144 shirts because we got a sweet deal at a local t-shirt company, so we'll have plenty for anyone who signs up.

Course maintance is coming along nicely. We still have to re-weld a few more of the baskets that were bent from the hurricaine and from some dumb go-kart ppl that decided to race through the park and ran into some of our baskets. But we do have new benches on a lot of holes at both parks. Pretty much every other hole has a bench now, so it's a little nicer wait if there's ever a backup.

For all you guys who are planning to play Advanced Masters, you're payout just got a little sweeter! Lawrence Nance, our friend from Tyler, and owner of Onion Field Disc Golf has just pledged a donation of $125 worth of DG merchandise for the Advanced Masters pool. Couple this with the guareenteed $1000 added to the Pro Purse and payout is looking really nice for this years Pecan Park Open.

Well, it looks like it's gonna be nice weather for this year's Pecan Park Open. Last week, the extended forecast had it raining all week long, then lower chances of rain this weekend. The weather currently has it at just some scattered showers for the next day or two (which should dry up rather quickly, since we've had so little rain in the past few months), and then it's suppossed to be sunny with a high of 88 this weekend.

When pushing this tourney back into the last part of May, we were all dreading 100 degree temps, and worse humidity. Looks like it should actually be rather pleasant given the time of year.

Pre-registrations are starting to pick up on www.titledisc.com and locally. We've had a few out of towners signup with us locally, and a bigger turnout out of early east texas area players pre-registar with us. Players list will be up soon.

How about some doubles on friday with "Pro" and "Not Pro" as divisions? That way you have larger divisions and your decent ADV guys play Pro and your non baggers play "not pro"?

anarak82
May 28 2009, 05:57 PM
Yeah, we should be having only 2 divisions for doubles, unless there is just a huge demand for more AM divisions in doubles. Doubles will start at 2pm on Friday, but probably won't be in full swing until later. We should be set up near the pavillion, if not in it, at Pecan Park. We'll be working on painting circles and a few other things on friday, but hopefully by around the time dubs starts we should be finished up with that stuff.

I recommend people trying to at least get in a round on friday if possible, or walk Pecan Park on Saturday morning before the player's meeting. We have some alterations done to the course, and some mandos that you'll be playing on day 1.

But here's a tenative schedule:
Friday: Doubles 2pm-6:00pm (last card needs to start by 6pm)

Saturday: Registration ends at 9AM, pecan park
Players' meeting at around 9:30AM
Tee-off around 10AM, hopefully sooner
Lunch
Teeoff for round 2 one hour after last card comes in.

Sunday: round 3: 9AM
lunch
round 4 1 hour after last card comes in from round 3.
After all cards are turned in, we will hold the raffle for skins
Skins match
Awards/Payout
Go Home

sure,,,

On Saturday at Pecan Park, Mandos will be in effect.
There are currently mandos on holes 4,6,7, and a double mando on hole 11. There will be drop zones on all these holes, as well as on hole 14.

We have changed (because the city asked us to) holes 12, 13, 14. They are all about the same length/difficulty, with 14 being a little tougher. Hole 14 is now tucked closer to the water, but is only 260ft now. There are timbers in the ground 30ft behind the basket (to protect tee 16) which is OB if you go beyond.

Pioneer Park is the same as last year, and there are no mandos on that course.

We will have an OB/Mando sheet that will be given out to all players to help understand what is being played.

But all and all, these courses aren't that tough or technical, and there is only one true blind shot (hole 9 at pecan), and that is the shortest hole in town (about 180ft).

Doubles went off nicely today with 3 pro teams and 9 AM teams. I left before the final AMs were in, but I do know that Matt Hall and Brad Williams took the pro dubs with a -16, shooting a 38. 14 birdies and an ace by Brad.

Tommorow, registration ends at 9am. You can registar anytime before that at the pavillion at Pecan Park. Player's meeting at 9:30. Teeoff ASAP right after that with Pros and Advanced divisions starting at Pecan Park, and all other AM divisions playing at Pioneer. Pros and Advanced will play rounds 2 and 3 at Pioneer and finish up with round 4 at Pecan.

Intermediate and Rec will play round 1 and 4 at Pioneer and rounds 2 and 3 at Pecan.

scores will be up later tonight, craig is emailing me the spreadsheet and I get those uploaded as soon as he sends me them.

I think we ended up with 65 players, which is really down from years past. In the April timeslot we usually get around 100 players, but this year there were tournies in Shreveport (southern nationals), and the Dallas and Austin areas.

We ended up all playing at the same park for each round, which made it a more cohesive tourney and I think a nice expirience for all. I'd rather see both parks filled, but I'm sure the lower divisions also liked the opprotunity to look across the park and see the pros tearing it up.

I can tell you that Brad Williams took 1st, Matt Hall 2nd, and Chris Farnham 3rd in MPO.
Jerry Power took Pro Masters.

I'll post again once I have the scores inputted.

Hope the other area tournies went well this weekend, other then the mild heat, it was a beautiful weekend for disc golf.

ok, scores are up guys.

I'd like to thank all of you again who came out to our tourney. I hope to see you next year, we will be having it in April. It was a lot more enjoyable doing this the second time around compared with the first. It's nice to know what to be stressed about and what not to be stressing over.

I hope all of you enjoyed your time in Nac, that you liked your payout, players packs, expierience, and my good looks.
