After watching th e2008 US doubles, I noticed a lot of discussion of Foot placement on the "patent Pending" shot as billy Crump likes to call it. The shot where for a right handed player the left foot is behind the mini. My question is What is the legal placement of your foot supposed to be? Are you to have your toe close to the mini and your heel standing over it? Or is it ok to have your heel at the back of the mini? and what about follow through, do you have to keep your foot there or can you swing it around? Thank you for the help!!!

All that matters is that any part of the foot is on the 30cm line of play behind and thru the center of the mini/disc at the time the shot is released and none of the foot is touching the mini at that moment. The suggested foot placement with the heel above the mini/disc brings the ball of your foot safely within the 30cm zone. It's common for the heel to leave the ground before releasing the throw if you instead place the heel on the ground behind the mini, thus potentially leaving the ball of your foot or toes possibly farther than 30cm from the mini. That would be a foot fault if called.

Any point of contact actually, not necessarily just foot, right? I've used my hand as a point of contact a few times.

The orginal poster was talking about the raised heel over pat pending on the disc so I referenced that specifically. I'd like to see a reverse stance with the left hand as the supporting point behind the mini. Seems like a handstand would be required and the release would be interesting to say the least.

There are a lot of terms that Billy seems to use on the videos that are ....shall we say "unique".

Smitty and I call the shot the Patent Pending. I heard it was a thing between Climo and Schultz, that they joked about who used it first, or something along those lines.
