Dynamic Discs is very excited to host the Harmony Hill Huk in McKinney, TX. Shaine Power has been making some changes to the course to keep it interesting. If you haven't played this course or the Dunn Memorial Java Classic then treat yourself to this one and put it one on the calender. The course is very cool with an awesome mix of holes that everyone seems to really enjoy.

Glad to be working with Jeremy and DD again to bring a second event for the 2009 season to Harmony Hill. I will be getting all of the last minute changes and set-up taken care of in the next few weeks. We will host a fundraiser mini on the 21st for all that want to come out and see the course or get in a practice round before the 28th. The mini will kick off at 10am and I will be out there as early as 7:30am for registration.

For best effect, open each map in a different tab so you can switch back and forth between them to see the differences in the two layouts.

Holes 17, 18, 19, & 20 have changed.

Thanks to Gary Duke for helping me get this course mapped and a few suggestions that I think will help this course a lot. Holes 17, 18, 19, & 20 saw the most significant changes and they make play both safer and more challenging. We will play all blue tee boxes on Saturday and I will be trying out a few of the alternate pins we have added in recent weeks (2, 4, 5, 7, 17, 18, 19 & 20). Each tee box will now be marked with colored stakes so that there is not any question as to what tee you are playing. We had a mistake occur last year that cost a player two strokes and i will not have that happen again (sorry JJ :D). Other than that I will be out this week in the evenings mowing, tree trimming roping off 10 and 11 and spray painting 3's island so that the hay bales will be accurate for the 28th. Hope to see you all out this weekend. I will have some new plastic for sale including fundraiser discs for the Java classic.

To try and answer all the questions at once. We will be having a mini this Saturday at 10am for all those that want to come out. The mini will be $10 with $2 going to support the Java Classic, $1 to the ace pot and $7 to the payout.

We will be playing two different configurations on the 28th. Gary Duke has put together a great online map at MAP (http://www.lsdga.com/maps). That will help people have an idea of what the course will play like.

Shaine
Feb 18 2009, 02:49 PM
The difference between the two courses is listed on the bottom of the map legend. We will be playing as true to those configurations as earthly possible. I am working every spare moment I have to try and have the course a tournament ready as possible by Saturday. I will be out this afternoon putting in 4's alternate sleeve. Tomorrow I have to trim 17's fairway to remove some low hanging limbs and roping off 10 & 11's fairways. Some last minute mowing and putting in the colored box markers :Don Friday and we should be ready to go.

I don't know how you are getting there, but the lat/lon for San Angelo run around 31.3, -100.5 : the ones in the course directory are 33.2501, -96.5515 nowhere near San Angelo.

When i highlighted, right clicked the lat/long listed above, and asked IE7 to send to google earth...it opened the application up and sent me to Hole 1.

However, on the PDGA course directory page the lat/long is listed with -96 first and 33 following...that opens up to a building in San Angelo. Us GPS and GE nerds are pretty particular. :D

I will be on site all day doing little things, but we are pretty much set to go. I got 17 cleaned up yesterday and I am going to be out today working on one other bruch pile that needs to come out. I have one other sleeve to install and a little mowing to do, but the course is playable. I had 4 out yesterday while I was working. I am out usually by 4pm on site. Call if you would like to come out and take a peek or come out Saturday at 10am for the mini.

Driving directions: From Dallas take US 75 North to Wilmeth Rd, exit 42 in McKinney. Take Wilmeth Rd east 1 mile to McDonald St./Hwy 5 and go right. Once on Hwy 5 go 2/10 of a mile and take your first left onto McIntyre Rd/CR 274 and follow 1.1 miles to CR 331. Take a left onto CR 331 and follow 9/10 of a mile to stop sign (CR 2933) and turn left. Follow 2933 2.3 miles to CR 341and take a right. Follow CR 341 8/10 of a miles to Harmony Hill Ranch. 2957 CR 341, McKinney, TX 75070. *Call for directions if you get lost*

Depends on which map you are talking about. The online maps and the color map use red lines for the short tees on holes that have both long and short tees.

On the greyscale (printable in black and white) map, the red line denote out of play areas. If you are talking about some other red marks, give me a better description of where they are on the course and I'll try to answer.

Everyone download one of these forms

and keep notes on what you buy while attending the event.
You can email or snail mail the completed forms to the address on the bottom of the front page.

It was definitely a "course management" round with that wind, trying to figure out what could go wrong and trying to stay away from it. I had only played the course once before, last August, and there were not alternate pin or tee placements, IIRC.

The bizarre thing about the round was that, even with that wind, what saved my round, and helped me gain several strokes on my competitors, was the selective and strategic use of rollers! I love it when my old school skills come in handy! Good to see MyHero come all the way out there. I live the heart of North Dallas, and it was 34 miles one way for me! Good to see GDuke there too, even if he was there to work on the course and not to play.

My only concern with next week is, with so may Rec players signed up, and fivesomes on every hole to boot, the rounds may take a loooooong time to play. We need to work on keeping the rounds moving, and taking a short as possible lunch break. I wouldn't count on leaving HH for lunch, unless you need to run into town for a potty break.

It was my pleasure; 57 miles driveway to driveway. The new 121 toll road saved hours. :D

I took a double circle 6 (+3) on the "island" hole, and a circle 5 (+2) on the "pumphouse" hole. I couldn't get a disc to sit down and stay in the boundary with all of that wind on the island hole. Then a few holes later i got caught 3m up in the air in a bundle of briars hardly larger than a disc above the pumphouse. That was 5 over on two holes....and only 2 over on the remaining 19 holes. Not too shabby in those conditions.

Shaine,

I know that I am probably worrying over nothing, but I have an event in Dallas that I need to attend that starts at 6PM, so with teeoff not until 10, the round will probably take 3 hrs, lunch break from 1 to 2, then second round from 2 to 5.

I really, really want to play in this event. I enjoyed playing last Saturday, and I was there specifically to get ready for this coming Saturday. With no late registration, since the event is full, hopefully we can get started earlier, say at 9:30.

What tentative schedule do you have for the tournament: first round start, second round start, awards start? And, if you are playing, will you have any staff walking around that can help with spotting, or anything else that will assist in keeping the rounds moving?

Hey, Hero, you can always stay in McK the night before.

I wuz thinkin - we could have a check-in; then we would know if everyone was there before the 930 players mtg it could start early, and so could the first round. Any other ideas?

I'm also concerned that it appears that we will have at least one ghost card - there are 109 signed up per PDGA.

I hope last weekend was practice for tomorrow's weather conditions, I had the low score last Saturday!

J Squared, If that was practice then we're ALL in TROUBLE!

Bill, I'm alrerady in route in My_Hero_Craft. The cross wind is killing me. I'll be there at 9:30 sharp for the players meeting. :D

Good, if you are already on the road, then I won't have to tailgate you and your little traveling buddy on the back roads of Collin County like last weekend.

I just hope that it is not too unreasonable to expect to be done seven hours after we start. I can help with cards, etc. between rounds. I won't have anything else to if they have a bathroom there to use.

Maybe you should just leave after the round and collect your payout Sunday since they are holding another tourney close by. Just to save you the stress and worry! Good luck to all I will be at Sesame Street live so have fun for me since I cant make it :D

After last weekend, My Hero guaranteed me that this weekend would not be as windy. He then added that if it was windy, at least it would not be a north wind.

He was very wrong.

Congrats to your first pdga win Crispin!

It WAS a north wind. It WAS stronger than last weekend. I didn't play well in the 30mph wind during the first round, but i redeemed myself in the 40mph wind in the second round. LOL. Fun stuff. Thanks to all of the (4) land owners for allowing us to come play DG on your property. Huge props to DD for always giving something to those who sign up early. At least i didn't go away empty handed. :D
