The 2009 PDGA National Tour makes its fourth stop in beautiful Pawhuska, Oklahoma at The Lodge on April 25th & 26th. The Green Country Open is presented by Twisted Flyer.com , powered by Innova Champion Discs and hosted by the Tulsa Disc Sports Association. This event will be co-directed by Joe Rotan, Oklahoma State Coordinator and veteran Tournament Director and Michael Treat whom has been a major influence in the Tulsa Disc Sports Association. Both of these men have been at the helm of large tournaments and are both administrators in the TDSA, the club that brought you 2006 Am Worlds.

The ranch is owned by Jim and Debbie Taylor who are both cordial and accommodating hosts. The property features two courses designed by veteran Tour Pro Kevin McCoy and are set in the hills of Osage Indian country and feature many awesome views and challenging shots. There are many elevation changes and varied terrain to consider when playing the courses. Errant shots are punished so bring your A game and get ready for a great time in a beautiful slice of the American heartland at a fantastic private Disc Golf getaway!

We are pleased to announce that Kevin McCoy and Courtney Peavy will be married on the green of the Island hole Thursday evening at Sunset. The ceremony will be officiated by none other than Jay Reading.

There will be more than enough to keep you busy as the TDs have some great events and activities planned. Area legend Jeff Ash will join forces with VictoryFireworksInc.com for numerous displays over the weekend. There will also be a Big Money Doubles presented by the Tulsa Disc Sports Association on Friday, with the qualifying round on Thursday. This will be a great opportunity to check out the two tracks. The Innova Groove Party will be held in the Bar and Grill which is also where professional chef Jeremy Taylor will be satisfying the Tours culinary needs. There will be live entertainment on the Bar & Grill stage and there is a casino about 10 miles down the road as well.

This event is powered by Innova Champion Discs. The Green Country Open will debut new and exciting products from Innova. From the new environmentally friendly tee signs to the soon to be hottest disc on Earth, the Eco Star Groove. A limited number of these discs will be released with the official tournament stamp designed by Skeet Scienski. Discs will be available at TwistedFlyer.com.

For those who arent able to make it, but still want to check out this great course, the Lodge will provide a live Webcast of the event which will provide a great opportunity for the folks back home to monitor the tournament progress.

The host hotel will be the La Quinta Inn in nearby Bartlesville, Oklahoma which is a short 40 minute drive from the course. This hotel features an indoor pool, free high-speed internet, continental breakfast, and a fitness center. We have secured a special rate of $60.00 per night. Please use PDGA code when registering for the special rate. You must call to receive your rate, it will not be valid with online bookings. The hotel phone # is 918-331-9151.

Hotel website: http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ6440&propId=6440

The Lodge features camping and RV hook-ups. There is a new bath house with showers and other amenities. Camping and RV space is limited so please contact Jim Taylor at 918-846-2257 to secure your reservations.

This years NT will have a special twist. One of the holes will be worth $10,000.00 if you ace it!!

Sign-ups will be online at www.TwistedFlyer.com (http://www.TwistedFlyer.com)

That would be a fun 10 days for sure...The Emporia tourney is GREAT!!! Not just because I have won it before ;) but it really is a great event with 2 courses at the same location....walking distance from the Tourney Hotel where everyone is partying having a great time.

Plus you could spend the week in Tulsa and play about 18 courses you have never played before (only about 8 worth playing but it is entertainment for the week...I could probably get you in a good poker game during the week also plus the casinos....Or you could stay all week at the Lodge which will not suck either. The Lodge will offer both courses at the same location. The Island Course is one of my best designs and will test your skills and stamina with lots of elevation, elevated greens, tucked pins, two shot holes where placement is key....as for the 2nd course...I just designed it on paper and haven't got to see it or play it yet. Not sure if I can put my name on it yet, but there are some really really cool areas on the Moccasin course.

You would enjoy yourself extremely to attend both of those events!

Both are within an easy 2 hour drive

The Lodge is still an infant but someday it will be Oklahoma's version of The Grange in VA, Marshall St, The Woodshed in WV...etc a definite must attend every year....eventually every event will be sold out as soon as it is announced at the Lodge.....lucky for the outsiders that the homies usually procrastinate and don't pay their entry fees until the last minute so there will be PLENTY of room for the out of towners.

Come One Come All!

What would the cost be for staying the week (or at least a portion of it) at the Lodge? Test of stamina sounds good too haha, guess I'll hafta get in some cardio this winter ;) Def. not opposed to hittin some casinos, I'm pretty much addicted to Keno... and I'm always down for losing some money in a poker game.

The Lodge is looking more and more like my favorite honky tonk tavern each day. the practice run a tier was certainly a blast.
the wind was howling, the discs had their own minds.
it is quite fun when one throws an overstable disc and it ends up behind the thrower,or turns over into a roller that goes completly the wrong direction.
these courses will test the best, the best will have fun if it as windy the weekend of the N.T.
the twisted one will have plenty of volunteers to help spot the results of the throws.
i for one will enjoy being one of those volunteers,i hope you all have a great time on these courses.
Coda Hatfield seemed to play them well in comparison to the rest of us, but hear him talk he had a rough time too.

Ok NT Fans and Participants, here is an update to lead you into the upcoming NT event, The green Country Open.

The Lodge is looking GREAT!!! With the last workday sponsored by Twisted Flyer we had 15 people fine tuning the fairways, removing debris and readying the course for the new tee pads. That makes TWO... count em' 2 Championship caliber courses on private land. No park fees, no reservations etc. The Lodge itself is prepped and ready to be event central, wedding reception area and home to the Innova groove party etc. Our staff is brushing up on last minute details, players packs are being built for all players and we are all committed to providing you with some amazing golf and great times with friends.

Here is a breakdown of the bonus activities...

All right folks, I just got finished with my local shin dig tourney here in GA, so all focus is on coming home and THANK GOD! I'm ready to be home. Can't wait to see everyone, we have been really missing you guys. Was it a RATT song :p or a magic Chinese proverb "Don't know whatcha got til it's gone" :D Well Tulsa was a great city for Disc Golf and friends and we are really looking forward to being back and seeing everyone.

On to the good stuff, McCoy's Big Love $$$ Doubles. Thanks to Joe for letting me have a little bit of input on one of the events at the GCO Open. I am stealing a very good idea from the creators of Marshall St. & Vibram Open Steve Dodge. He is the originator of the Thursday qualifier for a made for spectators Doubles Finale Event. It's brilliant! Shameless plug for my buddy Steve. Buy the DVD's they're GREAT! ---> Maple Hill Dubs Video (http://primediscs.com/proddetail.asp?prod=dvd-vibram-2008-dubs) Players get a pre tournament test run of the track under tourney conditions. If you shoot one of the top 6 scores you are guaranteed money. Depending on how you play on Friday it could be a lot or a little, plus you get to play a HOT round on the other course. BRILLIANT!!! :D

You may ask how there are going to be 8 players in the finals but only 6 can qualify? twisted1 posting as Treater...

Players are out ripping thru the wind on both courses here at the Lodge. We had an awesome players meeting and kicked off right on time.

The conditions are VERY WINDY out here, I am guessing sustained 25 gusting to 35. It is overcast and approx. 70 degrees.

The Island course has about 5 holes left and the Creek course has about 7 holes left.

Just wanted to say a few words about the weekend.

First and foremost, a BIG THANK YOU to Jim, Deb and the rest of the Taylor Family. You guys went out of your way to make everyone feel welcome and at home. The work you guys put in that not everyone saw was HUGE. Thanks!! (Jim looks like your gonna have to go back to your day job now ;) )

JoRo and the Treatster. You guys were working non-stop to make things very smooth. I know how much work it is to run a big event and you guys did a great job! It was really a good time!! Thanks.

To ALL the volunteers who spotted and manned the Hospitality tents, THANK YOU!!! You guys gave up your weekend to sit out there and watch us get to play. Good things will come to the givers, thanks.

Good golf, great food good times.

Thanks to all who had something to do with pulling this one off. It was fun!!

(waiting for people to start talking about the poor payout)

They paid the top 50% of the field.

After I thought about this, it was a pretty small payout. Not just the fact that the 1st place was $1080, but the total value of the purse. I think the total purse was around $8500?

I wonder what the purse for the Dogwood Classic was that Schwebby won, and how much he got for 1st? They were very similar sized tournaments in terms of the Pro field. I also wonder how the different the entry fees were.

The Glass Blown Open the weekend before the the Green Country had a smaller pro field, smaller entry fee, and larger payout. It did have a larger Am turnout, however.

$125 entry, minus players pack, green fees, pdga fees, ace pot, and then 50% of the field paid my have something to do with it. All of the required added cash was put towards the pro fields. The problem is without the AMS its hard to kick anymore the pros way. I guess if Luke had shot better he wouldn't be complaining.

hey for a 925 rated player I shot pretty good! ;)

actually it wasn't me complaining about the payout(although I think it was one of the lowest paying NTs ever), it was touring pros. I don't think there was a single one who would say the payout was good. Pretty sure a lot of them agreed with Anton(I heard he spoke his mind about it), but were a bit too polite to say it publicly. I guess what you could take away from that is a flat 50% payout is not popular. Also if the idea behind the National Tour is to showcase our sports top players, and attract them to high profile events, how does a flat payout with less for 1st work towards this goal?

players pack- ya, a chair was cool, but at a NT event pretty much anyone who wants to use a chair during their round already had one. I'd bet most players would have rather seen that money be used towards payout. Lunches were not free, in fact for $5 there must have been some money made off that. the snacks on the course were awesome though, definitely gonna work to have some stuff like that donated for my future tournaments.

Fireworks also cost money(unless that many were somehow donated, if so, awesome!).

There was no ace pot that I knew of, did Josh get anything for his final round ace?

What were the greens fees?

twoputtok
May 01 2009, 09:58 AM
I never said lunches were part of it. Fireworks were completely donated by Jeff Ash. Not sure what was paid on the aces. Don't get me wrong, I don't deny the payout seemed low, I was just trying to show where it may have went.

Unfortunately the NT program is flawed, there is no way for a club or TD to come out ahead or come out even, usually they come out in the hole. When it is nothing but money in and no way to make money to offset costs associated with an event. I still don't understand why a club or TD would want to run an NT, unless they have a large AM event along side of it, or very deep and generous pockets.

I am thankfull to those that put on the event, they really did try to provide all they could and did well in my opinion. Also, this wasn't the first and **** sure won't be the last event for tourning pros to complain about payout. If I was a TD, I would consider running AM events ONLY from a business standpoint.
