Traveling can be really cheap if you're resourceful. I've heard he's resourceful.

You are right that Geoff has a lot of friends along the disc golf trail. He would easily win the "nice guy" award for PDGA touring pros.
With 68 sancioned events under his belt this year Geoff just left Birmingham Alabama on his way to Austin Texas for the two Last Chance tourneys on 12/31. I think he will be in Missouri City Texas the 1/3/09 weekend.
After Texas he is talking about returning to the snowy north. Why I will never know.
Don't we all wish we could load up and play a different course every week?
Heck, I would be happy not traveling if I could just have Geoffs sidearm throw.

Anyone have Geoff's Number? I may end up playing those events if he is in town.

his car/van have been pretty good on gas
He wins more than he spends.
No rent or mortgage payment.
Sells discs out of his van
usually finds a place to stay with some locals
REALLY likes to play tourneys EVERY weekend,,,, sometimes events during the week like leagues.
I think the last one is probably one of the biggest reasons.
I know most players think,,, " hey I could play disc golf every weekend in a different city from coast to coast top to bottom"
Try 6 weeks traveling in a row first,, then try 12.
It takes a fierce desire to travel and play 50 weeks a year,,, than times that by 3 years!!!

Congratulations go out to Geoff. It is an amazing amount of work and dedication to play that many events at such a high level.

I would honestly try to convince Geoff to take me out on the trail for a time if not for the fact that I'm going to have to have a regular job to pay off student loans. I can't wait... live as cheaply as possible pay off my loans as quickly as possible so that I can quit the whole "career" thing and tour for a decade or so. I'd rather have fun until I'm 40 and then work until I die, as opposed to working until I'm 55 and then trying to have fun when I'm too old to really take advantage of the free time.
I think the quote that came up when talking with Barsby, Mills, and Horne about this was... a 25 year old on blow is a rockstar, a 55 year old on blow is a crackhead. lol (no I'm not advocating blow, just felt like throwing in a fun quote at the end of the post, not sure who said it out of the group)

I talked to Geoff today and he said he was hitting the 60 event mark tomorrow and I let him know I would be up for riding the trail in another 2 years when I get out of college.

It's really not that hard to play in 50+ events a year and hold down a full time job and pay your bills. I used to do it years ago before injuries and old age burned me out. It helps to have friends in a few cities in different states.
Keep up the dream Geoff

So he does have a FT job, or are you just using your own personal example??

huh? I don't know if he does or not. My point was that it isn't that hard to do it with friends in the right cities. I have a pretty decent collection of touring pins and have always had a FT job. So yes, I was basing it off of personal experience.

Bennett doesn't have a full time job. I don't think I've ever called him when he wasn't on the road somewhere.
