This hotel is south east of swope park!

it's marginal at best. it's right on the line between grandview and KC, not the best area, but not too bad.

Looks AWESOME price wise, I do not think I necessarily want to be here if I have to go to WW, or wyco during the morning rounds.

Back the link out and look exactly where you are if you have been to KC before.

Host Hotel doesn't have any smoking rooms :mad:Gotta find an alternative. Maybe a local can help. Gotta be something close to the courses, mid quality, that has a pool, and smoking rooms available. JR's need a pool
rocguy77
Dec 19 2008, 09:25 AM
honestly, the easiest way to be close to all of the courses is to find a hotel in DOWNTOWN KC.
if you're in any of the suburbs, you're losing the whole "centrally located" thing.

By the time you guys are here for the worlds almost all of the hotels on both sides of the border will be smoke free.
Kansas City MO passed a no smoking ordinance last year, and Kanss City KS just passed one last night. so smokers will have to go outside. (so you will not find a smoking room in KC MO, except possibly the casino's they have a wierd clause if it is that important to you)
You guys are killing me with the hotel, but to get your information if you want to drive to the host everytime its your time.
Consider driving time, and your time when thinking of this.
Yeah you'll be able to get a cheaper hotel, but you'll have to drive to the players meeting, registration, flymart, players party, PDGA Awards......its ok its your time.....
but when you break it down.....
4 ppl=
~$35/night
but hey, who'd want to stay where all the action is?

You will be drving at least 30-45 minutes(with no traffic, in the morning and afternoon this is the WORST place for traffic in KC, they call it the Grandview Triangle) to most courses with the exception of Swope from this location.

Not everyone at worlds is taking rooming with there homies! I am taking my wife and 2 year old daughter so unless you know of some people that want to room with that it will still be 134 a night! But even after saying that I still might try to find a way to stay at the host hotel because I dont want to leave the wife and daughter stuck at that hotel with nothing to do while I am out fighting traffic :DStill a lot of money to swallow for me but I might not have a choice!

I'm sure there will be lots of folks at the main hotel, Jack. Being centrally located will make a big difference for some folks.
But when it comes to budgeting, the rates there will be a major turn-off to a heck of a lot of players, from what I can gather. At least gas prices might be cheaper than last summer...
I hear what you're saying about the time factor. Yet many folks who will be making the trek to KC will have more time available than cash, that's just our demographic. Sure, there are a lot of golfers with cash to burn, but given today's economy I'd expect a lot of folks next summer will be pinching pennies at every opportunity, so there will be a certain demand for budget lodgings and camping.
I know nothing about the area, time to study some maps!
Snow day for my kids today, anybody else getting pounded and looking forward to summer weather?

Also part of the reason we went with this venue, you are exactly right, your family will have things to do while you golf, a museum across the street, a shopping center attached to the hotel. I agree it is not cheap. The regular rate of $289 though was not an option. Price point wise based on the same information that I had from other hotels for the 2003 worlds (where we went to the Holiday Inn...ask some people about their experiences at that hotel $69/night, and we turned this one down that yr at $89/night) percentage wise they are exactly the same as if we were to go with the Holiday Inn but again then we have to worry about logistics place to host meetings, etc.....
I know it is not ideal on the price point, but the locations that I could have gotten for $100 would require all the extra issues of having to find venues for everything else. I thought long and hard about it for many months and based this sort of on the past, where we had $119/night in Milwaukee, and felt that this was a STEAL based on that deal, plus man the place is AWESOME, it takes us up a level, and I understand that a lot of our demographics are not financially strong, but this event is not only a chance to win the worlds, but it is also a chance for family time in many instances, and why would you want to put a family in the burbs to save $20/day with nothing to do and they hate you for leaving them to only watch TV.....
Sorry, I didn't mean to come off harsh, I just type as I think.....why I stay away from the forums more now! :o

I totally understand your point of view for choosing this hotel I just have to find a way to get the extra money to make it happen! I think everyone will see that staying at the host hotel would be the best option just as stated before some will have to make sacrifices to be able to attend! This being my first worlds I hope to make a good impression on the wife with the whole experience and like you said dont want them to be stuck in a hotel with just a little TV to watch with no pool :( it is after all a vacation so might as well blow money like we are on one /msgboard/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Only time will tell wish me luck :D

Let me start by saying that $20 a day is an incorrect number. me and my family will be staying at the same place and we are actually saving $105 a day! through 7 days is a substantial amount of money! i know my family and they would much rather save money on the place we sleep and spend money on the things they can actually have fun doing!!!! my wife would have a hay-day with $700!!! granted, it might be gone in one or two visits to the mall but hey! atleast she would have fun! i hate to sacrifice quality but when we are talking about $700 savings to stay in the burbs vs. not save and stay in a nice hotel, you can count me in every time!
and i understand where you are coming from, you pitch a host hotel to give you a special rate if you can bring in so many rooms. but what it really boils down to is dollars and sense! if it cost too much, it doesnt make sense! everyone wants to come down and have as much fun as possible, so pinching a few pennies will always help!
